Season 1 may not have a lot of choices with consequences, but season 2 is why people say TWDG choices don't matter. S1 had some important character development be present or end depending on your choices, but S2 is so static that it doesn't matter if you were rude to Sarah or threaten Rebecca in episode 1, they both still die. Kenny/Jane will still go with you even if you sided more with the other and you still get AJ in the end.

They should not have killed Omid and just vanished Christa. Jane was a terrible character. Carver was killed way too soon and should have been the antagonist of the entire season, not just the first few episodes. Arvo was pointless. They rushed so much of this season and everyone's character development suffered because of it. When I had to make that choice at the end, there was no way I was going to off Kenny for someone I just met who kept on leaving. Jane offs herself anyway, even if you do leave with her, which is infuriating and solidifies your choices don't matter.

Season 2 has a great setup - with a disjointed group where every member has a clear flaw and room to develop over the course of the season. Yet the writers choose to give no one meaningful development and kill them off instead. Nick just dies, Rebecca's change in attitude seems forced and not meaningful, Carlos just dies, Sarah just dies etc. No one seems to improve for the better or have any story arcs

I agree, and that’s probably the reason why Telltale’s games went down in sales.
You can see that Telltale did try to shake things up in Batman TEW, and TWD Final Season. However by that point they already filed for bankruptcy.

Season 2 would be massively better if they only replaced Jane with Molly, Russian Group with 400 Days characters, if Kenny and Luke fought at the end (optional actually, better replaced with Carver being antagonist for entire season and even more than one season) and if some of the choices really matter, such as sparing Nick with him having further role to play later, and Sarah being taught how to use gun etc.

As much as I would've loved to see Molly again because shes my favorite outside Lee, and Clem...I like Jane. But the end of the game had her out of character, all they had to do was not have her do what she did with AJ cuz I made no sense for her specifically to do that. Most of the problems with Season 2 was
Because the first season won game of the year in 2012 these executives at Telltale rushed too fast at a quick cash grab to ride the wave and it felt rushed
And the background characters didn't have any hints of their previous behavior and ways before the apocalypse or before you meet them as Clementine
It felt very little was at stake besides avoiding Carvers and his people until AJ was born really
But yeah overall if this game and it's developers were given more time to flesh out backgrounds and
Find ways to add higher stakes
Like Choosing Between Luke or Kenny than rather Jane and Kenny

The thing with the choices in this season imo is that whatever we chose, the character that lived will be as well as dead, what I try to say is, for example, in season 1 if you save Ben by the end, he ends up dying anyway, BUT the big difference is how the characters are affected by this and how different the story goes, for example if you let him die, Kenny would miss on character development even if he end up going away anyway, the coices don't really matter but at least we had a bit different story for some characters, bu then in season 2, wait, you saved THIS character? Well we hadn't planned for that so they will stay on the back and do absolutely nothing until they die and you can do nothing about it. Btw, I still think that Clem AJ Sarita group would have been awesome if they had developed the character good enough...

THIS!!! Ben still dies but has some development not only to his self but also Kenny and helps the group escape the house before he dies. In season 2 I noticed how if you save nick he literally has no involvement in episode 3. I like how we can push back when a person dies but it’s useless when they stop popping up on screen until they die.

"Take Kenny, Jane and maybe Luke out of the equation, without these characters what do we have?"
A cast of useless characters lmao. Some had their moments but died early while the others were dumb and died later. Im giving Rebecca a pass since she was pregnant throughout the season. I see her role as making things complicated which she did (plus she had some of that sarcastic humor like Larry which i find funny personally).
About describing season 2 as clementine's search for a new Lee, i can kinda see it
Luke was there providing with emotional guidance teaching clem the importance of family and people you can trust
    Kenny is the OG
Jane was taught the importance of survival teaching Clem skills and techniques
Heck as i much as i hate Bonnie i will say she had like 5 minutes of glory looking out for Clem, until she did a 180 and threw that character development out the window
However if you look at the whole season, Clem was pretty much doing all the heavy lifting. Every time a crisis occurs, Clem has managed to take care of herself and others. The whole point of her searching for a "Lee" cant really be applied.
Throughout the game Clem has made choices that dont do anything at all. Characters even brush off what she says even tho she has fully proven herself and shown that she actually can think rationally at times. I will say that only at the end where she tries to stop Kenny and Jane from killing each other, her choices where she just gets completely ignored is something i appreciate from a story perspective. Her inability to change prevent this outcome in addition to the atmosphere of being a 11 year old child. being in the middle of nowhere with no food, no shelter, a new born baby that "died", a raging blizzard and your two remaining adults that are at each others throats about to kill each other really set the whole hopeless situation with her taking the gun being the only option. That i liked. Other times where she gets ignored is just dumb XD.

I loved all the seasons of the main storyline of The Walking Dead. I do think that dynamic with Lee and Clementine was the best part of the first season, that his death, it developed who she would grow to become. I did love that choice that Lee gives Omid and Christa his blessing to be her guardians, she needed that balance, where she has a mother and father figure to raise. When Omid died and Clemente was crying about it, I did have tears, since she felt really guilty because he told her to mind her gear and keep it within reach. I do think Christa is depressed about what happened, though she basically promised Lee that her and Omid would protect her, taking care of her

Season 3 is BY FAR WORSE! Its filler, Clementine is a side character, the side cast is terrible, it’s all about family drama, the villains are worst
S2 is about who clem can trust more, and development as a person. Itachi at 11 was giving to adults, and it’s been stated she’s not a normal little girl.
Kenny is by far the best written character in the whole series. S 2 is his redemption arc. Him sacrificing himself to save Clem & Aj at Wellington is the best ending in the series. The final choices matter because the other 3 endings are terrible. S2 has the best villain, and he made it entertaining, parallels with the villain & with Kenny, plot twist, emotional moments, comedy. This season is arguably the most enjoyable with S1.

  • @Atom523
    @Atom523 2 дня назад

Honestly for a long time I was very confused as to why so many people disliked season 2 and after watching several videos of people talking about it I think I understand a bit better. They wanted season 1 but with Clementine, having the influence of Lee but with the character of Clementine.
Now this is all my opinion and everyone has the right to disagree (you probably will :-P )
I never really saw the game the above way, Season 2's main theme to me is dis-empowerment. You are playing as an 11 year old child, the very idea that you could influence events and change the world is impossible. The very act of survival is nearly impossible for an adult in this setting, for a child death is a near certainty.
Clementine spends the entire season in a futile struggle with fate, she tries her best to save everyone around her, to control things and she fails every time.
Despite what you do you cannot save Christa and Omid, this isn't the game taking away your choices this is you being a child. Clementine should never have been allowed to go into that bathroom by herself. The adults should have check out both of the rooms then they all should have gone into one together, their bad choices caused their downfall. Clementine learned a lot of lessons in the first game but she is still a child, a mature one who is very skilled but also one whose bad decisions in the first game got multiple people killed.
Clementine cannot stop Carver from entering the house, and no matter how well she lies Carver powers his way through. Despite everything she has gone through she is a child in a world where most adults can do little but survive.
I believe meeting Kenny is a great way for the story to progress. Kenny has been broken by the harsh world and struggles to grab at any life line he can to keep his head above water. He is a poor substitute for Lee and he knows it. He tries his best to take that command role but he just isn't made for it.
Clementine while comically is asked to do so much for the adults is mainly there for the player to have a degree of agency. Logically she wouldn't always be thrust into situations where she has to bail out a room full of adults but this is a video game after all. However the game shows us that despite our efforts we don't have the power to meaningfully change the situation. Season 2 is gut punch after gut punch to remind us of our powerlessness. We can make all of the right decisions but we will still fail in the end because we are a child trying to do far more then we can.
We steal the radio for Luke only to have him get captured right after, we help everyone when they get captured by Carver but we cannot stop them from panicking while going through the herd. No matter what choice we make with Sarita she is going to die. Cutting off her hand? That is an insane choice that the player keeps getting told might work. First from Pete, then we see that Reggie survived a bite by getting his arm amputated. So naturally when we see Sarita bit on the wrist we are led to think that we can save her by cutting her hand off. But we are forgetting how Lee reacted if he gets his arm cut off, he screams through the whole thing. The idea that Sarita would just calmly stand there as you hack off her arm can only be considered through the eyes of a panicking child. Of course she is going to scream and freak out thus causing every walker around her to grab her. We are given a choice of how to see her die because we are powerless to prevent it.
Now, I hate Arvo. The fact that even if you give him back his medicine and inform him that you have a newborn child with you he and his people still insist on robbing you thus knowingly decide to murder a baby. Then all of a sudden the majority of your group treat him like an innocent victim after Luke is shot and most of you almost die. Plus he shoots you at the end no matter how nice you try to be to him so I will always hate him and feel no sympathy towards him.
The final confrontation between Kenny and Jane I think perfectly ends the season. Here are two people who hate each other but still both care for Clementine in their own unhealthy way. No matter how much Clementine tries to separate the two she is just shoved out of the way. She cannot stop what is happening any more then she could have stopped Carver from wandering around the house in episode 2. One of her guardians will die and Clementine's only choice is who dies, this is the only "real" choice she has the power to make. She couldn't stop anything before hand and only after taking so much loss can she finally have the power to end things and it is a horrible choice.
Anyway I am rambling way too much but to try to end this long post, I love Season 2 because I don't think Clementine's choices should matter in a big way. She isn't Lee, she is an eleven year old girl in the middle of the apocalypse who struggles in vain to control situations beyond her ability. Season 2 reminds us that there are no real happy endings in the Walking Dead, if we think we found one then that is only an illusion. It is only in later installments when Clementine is older and stronger (emotionally and physically) does she start gaining more agency and even then it is tenuous.
I know my poorly explained interpretation is in the minority but I feel that even in a choice based game there are situations where people are powerless to change things. Most people hate being dis-empowered in a video game so I guess it is natural that many people dislike this season. However in my opinion the real decisions in this season is not how we change other people or the world, but how we shape Clementine as a person. That is the only choice we really have and I believe the game does a fine job in letting us shape Clementine into how we wish her to be......which is promptly undone in the next season :-P

@@tmm4195 I think the best way for Luke and Kenny to butt heads is this, Luke at first was calm and rational and was the de-facto leader of his group. But he and Kenny don't see eye to eye as Kenny can be impulsive and aggressive in how he does things. If Luke was captured early and he was stuck in that cage with Kenny, we can see the difference between there personalities unfold. As Kenny make irrational decisions, Luke counters Kenny but when Kenny decisions lead to Lukes friends getting killed. Lukes cool starts to slip an he butts heads with Kenny even more, especially with Luke having 5 minutes with Jane as Luke is already stress out and would make one big mistake.
Jane explains to Clem the Luke and Kenny are polar opposites as she's seen this kind of thing before and this time she permanently leaves the group as she knows ahead of time how this will end. An things play out like in Canon both's arguments get more violent and leads to both emotionally manipulating Clem to take there side in all this which. Luke cool and train of taught as not the same as all his friends have died one by one, just as much as Kenny has lost his which promps Luke to hide AJ in a car and instigate a fight with Kenny, as in his mind he wanted a reason to take Kenny out. By making him the villain in Clems eyes, which leads to the fighting and killing each other.

Something else would have to instigate that fight that doesn’t require hiding AJ. It has probably some of the better character exploration of the series in my opinion, but the whole last season just doesn't feel right, even with TNF added in. At least I more or less liked the characters Javier's experience introduced, why would the series make Clem suddenly branch way out, and then stumble upon a bunch of kids randomly who magically have never been discovered supposedly? The WHOLE game's setting just feels different to the rest of the game.

Season 2 is the most over hated season of the franchise, hell even the new frontier gets more appreciation than this seasons at this point.
I mean yeah season 2 has it issues , but it’s still a good season the first three episodes are the best , and surpass some of season 1 episodes, and over the course of the season we see Clem grow as a character as she’s learning how to survive without Lee to protect
while the cast aren’t people’s fav, I say that works because it makes them real people with different perspectives, and while carver was killed off too early , He’s still a better villain compared to other villains because of how influential he is after he dies , his words haunts the whole group and his whole rant with clementine was done well as for example Sarah was shown in episode 4 that she wasn’t moving , and it again goes back to what carver said , Sarah wasn’t ready for the world, so it was better to not let her weight the group down .
all he said in season 2 goes beyond in TNF and the final season, and all in all season 2 was essential to her character going forward where she loses her innocence throughout the season, and then learning to raise aj, so yeah season 2 has it flaws, but I still say it’s a good season for how it’s still in a way influences the other seasons for better or for worse.

Hell, there are some characters like Luke, maybe Sarah (who realistically should have been tweaked if she was always intended to die, IMO), maybe even Jane. Shit just ramped up the pace of the story unnecessarily, and this lead to all of the characters that were "filler" just being filler. At the end of the day, the story is just that; a story. I don't want filler characters just because, especially if they REALLY have some good potential.
