Sendai Tansu Chest: Kumanodō

Sendai Tansu is a fully handcrafted chest made by craftsmen.
Kumanodō is located at the Akiu Craft Park in Sendai, Japan, which makes traditional Sendai Tansu ground up.
In this video, Akira Kumano tells the history of the chest as well as his vision for the future of Sendai Tansu.

The blending of metal working and woodworking is awesome. Going to check out a tansu cabinet tomorrow that was made in the 1920’s, not even close to being this ornate but pretty cool.
