I love your videos! We "spoke" about two years ago or so on RUclips. I'm on Big Island, plantation family also. I remember your laulau video, Carl Ignacio was mentioned by your grandpa, he's family. My family is also from Laupahoehoe, Meyer. Meyer, Stevens, Ignacio and more. We grew up in Paauhau, another plantation camp, right outside of Honokaa (where Tex drive inn is). Your videos remind me of what my family used to be like but as family members passed we do our own thing. Food and family. Keep up with your videos. You have a beautiful family and you all look so comfortable to be around. Thank you

Thank you so much! I'm sure many of the plantation families have so much in common. And wow, what a small world! What a connection. Thank you for continuing to watch my videos!

Mahalo for capturing this memorial event on video so others may learn of our history. Although I live in Mililani now, I grew up there and learned some of the stories through my dad and others. Some are in the video.

My mother is from Lapahoehoe and said she knew families who lost members in the tsunami. She was living in Honolulu at the time. I haven't been back in years but I remember my grandfather telling the story. I want to get back next year too pay respect to all who past.😢

This place give me chicken skin! Last time we were down there my dad was with us and we were there for a family reunion in Hilo and we stopped here on the way out to Pa'auilo where my dad grew up to visit his friends. While we were there a guy with a small shave ice truck drove in and we had to get some shave ice from him! I get sad when I think about what happened to see the names and hear stories. I can feel this energy there... anyways thanks for sharing! Mahalo!

Thank You for this video. My Mom's first Teaching job was at the Ele'ele plantation school on Kauai in 1946. She took me to the Memorial in 1966, and told me about the tragedy. She had visited the school and met the teachers and stayed a couple of days to observe. She sat in silence with her memories.

Thank you for recording this. Mrs. Poy is my grandma. Now that I’m living on Oahu, it’s been over 20 years since I spent an April Fool’s Day with her. I’m glad she and other survivors are still around to attend this annual event and continue sharing their memories of that day. May we always remember. 🤍

Wow, small world! I also have her in my other Papaaloa vlog when we visited the point at that time too. This was definitely a special event and I feel so honored to have had the opportunity to attend.

I grew up there and remember Mrs. Poy. Then I met her again during an event down the Point a few years ago. She’s my uncle’s classmate. I grew up with 2 of her grandchildren.
