Good job Owen!! I do a version of this for my family too. Gotta keep passing these "plantation days" type recipes on. Love you all my family!! Give Mom a big hug from us!
Thank you. My grandma used to make shoyu pork, but I’ve never made it. It’s a total comfort food and a “small kid time” memory. Will have to try making it
Looks ono! I remember going to Papaaloa Store and my mom would buy fabrics to make dresses for me when I was in elementary school. Also there used to be a box of assorted loose buttons that you could buy one if you need to replace a button. I just used to love running my hands through the buttons in the box. :) MIss the old days Papaaloa Store which was run by the Shimabukuro's. They made good potato mac salad and bbq meat. But I'm glad someone is running the store and offering all kinds of services like plate lunches, etc.
Wow, looks yummy! I recognize your Uncle Owen! I didn’t know him personally but I’d see him occasionally at the building we worked at. Haven’t seen him in awhile. Hope he’s doing well.
@@Caritaira From Laupahoehoe also, your uncle Owen was a year older than me. Your mom was a classmate of my oldest brother and your uncle Warren was a classmate of my other brother. Your uncle Ben used to come over to my parents house (the lone house at Papaaloa at the intersection by the highway).
Just one more reason I love Hawaii and her people. Thank you 🙏
Thanks, Craig!

That sounds delicious!
Winnah dinnah! I don’t if you already made it but you guys do a killah pork squash/chicken papaya soup? Oxtail?
Haven't done that yet, but that is a good idea! I'll look into that! Thanks for the suggestion!
Uncle Owen's shoyu pork looks very yummy. I believe this recipe is similar to Japanese pork kakuni.
Ahhh, good to know!
Aloha Cari, can this dish be made with another protein other than pork? Mahalo for another great video
Hi Paula! I think trying this with chicken or tofu would taste delicious.
A helpful hint - Put a damp paper towel under the cutting board. It won't slip.
Ahh, thank you for the tip!
Cari do you make ribs and cabbage soup
Hi Michele, I haven't made ribs and cabbage soup.
I like come yo house eat, I no eat to much. 😂
Haha!
Aloha Owen, yes, shoyu pork was a staple on the plantation.
Thank you for watching!!

Did he say to add 1 can of pineapple to that or the potatoe salad.
Add pineapple to the potato salad.
