Danganronpa always has that one goofy looking character that is just meant to be made fun of. However, unlike say Hifumi or Teruteru, Ryoma literally is the best character out of the three.

I appreciate the fan games and projects like Super Danganronpa Another 2 and Kill/Cure who incorporate the silly looking character as well (in the former it's Yuri, another Ultimate Astronaut, and the latter it's Chikuma, the former Ultimate Extreme Couponeer)
When the atua girl started explaining the magic show, and she got to the piranha part I said out loud; oh, that's okay, because piranhas only eat dead cells... enter dead Ryoma stage right.....................
But he was dead inside or something.
I don't know this trial but my prediction is that Ryoma was already dead before the piranhas were released. That's why it says his cause of death was "drowning".
16:10 Kaito is such a fantastically written character, honestly. He comes off as kinda dumb and pushy, but the whole thing about him appointing Shuichi as his “sidekick” is such a good move.
Kaito very quickly picked up on Shuichi’s insecurities and fears about his detective work, hence why he began inviting him to work out with him. Kaito knows that Shuichi is a good detective, he saw it plain as day in the first trial. He saw in Shuichi what Kaede saw, and Kaito trusted Kaede.
By making Shuichi his “sidekick”, if Shuichi makes a mistake or his insecurities get the better of him, Kaito is willing to take the blame. Shuichi is just his “sidekick” after all. Kaito is such a smart character and a very kind person, he knows that Shuichi just needs a friend to support him.
Kaito isnt even dumb when he actually puts in an effort to make logical arguments!
like in the first trial, Kaito said in the first debate that Rantaro was killed because he knew of the hidden door and therefore was the mastermind...
then at the end of the trial, Shuichi proved that Kaede's trap was aimed at the mastermind for when they opened the hidden door; so Kaito was VERY close to the truth! 😂
Kaito is probably my favorite character in the entire series
I have mixed feelings about Kaito, like there's the rampant toxic masculinity + positivity and the being a tactless prick who doesn't understand depression which does bother me, but also there's the positive points you made here

I like the part where you get to run over people to reveal the answer.

Their constant exasperation at the Monokubs has become my favorite running gag of this playthrough so far. It matched my own experience playing the game so closely.
I even catch myself going "Oh, no...." everytime they show up, and I'm just watching.
The Peter Lorre voice is the best decision they've made in this playthrough so far
I hope they keep it past this chapter.

This is why V3 is my favorite game in the series: you get to play as an actual Ultimate. Shuichi lacks confidence, but when the murders start he kicks into Competent Mode. He always has *some* clue what's going on when he goes into the trial, unlike Makoto and Hajime.

@Iluvpie6 Nah, it's just really wholesome and one of the better written friendships in the series. I guess I could see people shipping them, but they both have girls as their main love interests, without giving too much away.

The Love Hotel Suites for all guys are pretty much the most gay thing you'll get for this game.

You know you're a true Danganronpa fan when you hear the grumps satirizing the trials at the beginning, and you laugh not only because it's funny, but because they're right...and you love it anyway~
I love knowing other people watch these videos for the same reason I do.
It also helps that I watched an LP by someone who loves these kinds of games years ago, as I do, so watching these guys make fun of the writing when it comes to the trials doesn’t bother me.

Ryoma isn't dead. That was his twin brother Myora. I'm not in denial.
Tsumugi said removing her glasses reveals her true form. My guess is she has a false nose attached to her glasses and her real one is longer than Ibuki's.
The more Dan gets annoyed by Tenko the more invincible she becomes. She'll not only survive this game but she'll show up in sequels and spin offs.
I think Kokichi is genuinely upset about Ryoma's murder, and that him not caring about it is the actual lie. When he fake cries they tend to be these over the top almost water faucet level of tears. These crying sprites are more restrained and subtle, like when someone is trying to hold back tears.
People who have more avoidant attachment styles tend to be afraid to show open vulnerability as it's easier to get hurt that way. It feels like he does things like not take things seriously, joke around and mock others as basically a defense mechanism to keep others at a distance so they can't make him weak by either him getting attached and then them dying, or worse them betraying him in some way.
I've played the game and in retrospect, this isn't a spoiler, I personally kokichi really does care about everyone too. All of his fake over the top crying is like a facade, he goes over the top to mask the true intention behind what he wants to do. I think he's pulling an Esidisi from jojo, letting out all the emotion in one big burst so he can reset his mind and stay focused

I find it interesting that all blood is pink in Danganronpa, but any time it's mentionned they only ever describe it as red. So it's not pink in-universe, it's just an aspect of how the story is relayed to us.
Which is played with FANTASTICALLY in Rain Code, which uses the same art style.
If I remember correctly, _Danganronpa_ was originally called _Distrust_ and the blood was much more realistic.
The executions also had nothing to do with an Ultimate’s talent. Junko Enoshima, for example, was executed by guillotine
In order to be marketable to a wider audience/ player/ comic reader, the color of the blood was changed to pink in keeping with the style known as _“Psycho Pop.”_

i like the character’s reaction to the execution better than the execution itself. you’d figure we would have seen that somewhere in the past 2 games
Wasn't the execution very similar to one in the DR 3 anime?
Also continues a chapter 2 tradition in basing the execution off a mythological tale, at least as far as 1 and this go (not absolutely certain on if 2 is or not). Here it's based on an ancient Buddhist story of somene who tries to escape what is essentially hell on a thin rope of spider silk after the gods pitied them only for others to try following them up, which they, fearing the silk will snap from the weight, starts knocking the others off only for the gods to see this selfish act and sever the cord.
It was famously used in Skyward Sword's Ancient Cistern as well.

Lol Kaito is pretty much the Chiaki of this game. A pretty original change of pace since its usually girls who are main sidekicks of the protagonist.

Kaito strikes me as the typical shonen bro protagonist, and I love him for it. He may come off as an idiot at times, but he also has this vibe of sincerity and never-give-up attitude. He has a weird way of pep talking people, but it works.
The first question a rational human would ask in such an investigation: "So, who all helped set up the magic show?"
The whacky kind of question Dongonrampa characters ask for 3 hours instead: "Can we really be sure these are handcuffs and not feetcuffs?"

Since she already had a very short role in this game (and was nearly already forgotten by Arin and Dan), Maki potentially murdering the shortest character in the game (aside from the annoying non-Monokuma bears) in short order was nothing short of intriguing.

Ryoma and Leon from the first game are ultimate athletes who resent their ultimate talent and both get targeted for murder. Not sure if there's a meaning to that or it's just a coincidence!

I wish I could tell them that the mess of saying the same thing on repeat again and again was just a big deal in the second game, when the first game was localized for the Vita, it did so well, the second game was MEGA rushed.
I got the whole decadence collection recently since there was a big discount last month, first game was localized so much better than the second one. Shame it didn't got fixed when re released, it's like super loaded with typos, almost feels like they just used google translate.
theres mistakes in this one too. and the translators were biased about which characters they liked so they even took some things out (like kaito being homophobic)
