Update: After the first day, I could only get a few of the buttons to work, and almost none of the FMS functions worked at all except the CDI button. That was with the plug-in installed and I tried it on 4 stock aircraft and a couple of 3rd party aircraft as well, even with just the GNS530. Tonight I'll try again with MobiFlight, but so far, I was expecting a better out-of-the-box experience.
I got one in September (?) and it is a great improvement in operating a G530 or G1000 its just fun to hop through the different functions almost blind and use it for things like airport info which I could never be bothered to got to by mouse (my G1000 is displayed as a pop-out window on a second monitor and there you can't operate the buttons and dials with a mouse) it would have been great if the "shift active" indicator was an illuminated ring at the bottom of the dial - blinking indicator makes a kind of twitchy atmosphere
what??🤣 pressing the whutevar rotary to get into secondary mode (remember you´re in shift mode) to change hdg, unless you want to change OBS, but remind the mode you´re in unless you don´t! I think i stick to my loupedeck + spad. which says a lot...at least it´s (relatively) intuative. just kidding. Thanks, Mark
Good review thank you. Too bad there's not an LED showing whenever you're in shift mode or not. Overall, the product is cool, but not 185 EUR cool. Would have been tempted if it was more in the 90-100 EUR price range.
Another great review. Mark, I am strongly considering purchasing a DOF H3 platform. Do you always use DOF H3 for your MSFS flights? Or did you only have the system at your disposal for a review? What is your experience?
@@SimHangerFS I made the decision, I ordered the H3 with SFU gearboxes. Self-bought Christmas gift. Can I contact you if I encounter installation problems?
Yes I know. But judging from the video here on SimHanger, you have to take apart half the unit to mount it and its not a quick and easy remove either. I went with a different approach using camera equipment.
Hi, nice review as usual. I got it a few days ago and it works fine. Maybe a bit expensive but just what I needed. The only "problem" i have is that it works when I plug it directly in an usb-port on my PC but not when I plug it in one of the usb-ports on my Saitek Steering/pedal setup 🤔 It would be more comfortable if I could plug it in there. Any ideas?
@@takl23 Probably not. I didn't try it but on the yoke is a 5V power plug input if you want to use more power. But then you got that extra cable instead of the usb-cable from the Octavi, so I didn't try it...
3:34 - The whole "pressing the knob in to shift" with no indicator to let you know what mode you're in seems like a strange design choice. They should've at least added a blue LED light to remind you what mode you're in, or better yet, have the blue letters light up. I'll pass on this.
Based on their website, it does through MobiFlight presets. And the button definitions will be different. I've ordered my, hopefully will try myself in a few days.
Good grief. I just went to order one, and they wanted $84 to ship it to Oklahoma. Not only is this thing overpriced to begin with, but then they want 50% more to ship. Not a chance.
Not sure why would anyone pay so much for customized devices like these when you can get the same stuff out of a generic MIDI controller, like the Behringer, for a fraction of this price
Ugg. Like someone said below, $220 US incl shipping is a no go for me. Looks nice though. Prob cost to make in China is.... 10-20 Yuan Chinese...Yea, no thanks.
@@owenmilner9700 sure, I just stay away from expensive junk that I don’t need as much as possible. Take a lesson son. I probably been on this earth longer than YOU!
My point is the actual manufacture cost as a percentage of the sale price is very low for pretty much every product available. The costs are in development, marketing, support, etc, and a sustainable margin for the manufacturer and seller. Saying it on costs 10-20 yuan to manufacture applies to pretty much every product available, and shows you have zero understanding of how things work in reality.
@@owenmilner9700 Son, I understand what your saying and logic but it doesn't mean I have to purchase something that is not needed or not worth the cost. This is my opinion and a lesson to you. This looks great. Thank you for the review. It's a shame that it doesn't have an indicator for when the shift function is active though.
I'm a little late to the party 🥳
I just bought one of these USED for £85, and in collaboration with VR it's worth suddenly becomes priceless !!!
I just received my Octavi today, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go! This video makes a good user reference too, thanks!

I finally got it working, but only with the MobiFlight app, I still can't get the basic plug-in to work, but I guess I'll take what I can get. lol

I love my Octavi.
Great little interface, although I'd argue for the AXAIR MIAP if budget is limited. From someone who has their eye on both and hasn't decided yet.
thanks Mark for this excellent review. I use the device and I share your opinion about the quality of the device.
I got it a while ago and i works great... would love to see a SPAD.next implementation... BUT... why on earth did they forgot the RNG buttons?!
Thanks for posting Mark
Stay well eh 🇨🇦
I have preordered one with Aerosoft. Price is more reasonable in Germany. Can’t wait to try it out myself!

The Octavi IFR-1 is now available in the US with free shipping
In case anyone in the USA wondered, it will cost you $221.xx with the $50 shipping included. Uh, thanks, but no thanks.
You can buy the logic tech for 150usd, this should’ve been 100 bucks max
It is now available in the US with free shipping.

Does it give access to the 530/430 RNG control? I can't find any mention of this anywhere.
This looks like a great little tool. How does it compare to Air Manager with a knobster for you?
@@inuit2winit I prefer this. It has replaced the Knobster in my vr setup.
12/23/24 - can't seem to get the FMS buttons to work with the g1000 (172 etc). Have you had this issue with the latest sim update?
Excellrnt❤😅
Hi Mark great video, Just wondering what USB hub you use - thanks
I use a 4 x usb 3 powered hub, RSTech.

Can I use it on the Airbus A320? Because the Airbus MiniFCU, in your other video doesn't seem to be for sale yet, in Nov 2023, (in North America).
Am I seeing that right ? There seems to be absolutely no mounting options on that thing ?
There is a mounting bracket now available which is compatible with the Logitech mounts, which are what are on top of a honeycomb alpha/bravo

Very nice i hope it comes to xbox
How to zoom the garmin map? Is there such a key combination on Octavi?
No, but you can config using 3rd party software such as mobiflight I think.

Agreed, no LED indicator for when you are in SHIFT mode is a deal breaker.
Pass.
I enjoy mine but I agree with others it’s pretty pricey. Also, it takes an awful lot of knob turns to dial-in 18,000 feet from sealevel for instance.
Is it better than the AXAIR MIAP?
Have they fixed the issue with not knowing if you are in “shift” mode? Thats a huge fail on their part
Agreed, there should be a small LED indicator to show when you are in "SHIFT" mode.
Keif, yes get the Gist lol
🤣
How do you think this would work with fenjx a320 and pmdg 737? Is it pretty versatile
Not at the moment, but profiles are being done for these aircraft (737 + FBW A320) using mobiflight according to the devs.
