Also from someone who went to summer camp for years, earplugs and a sleep mask are your best friends for noisy/bright roommates at night! It lets you sleep unbothered while still letting them do whatever!
I feel like I’m lucky since my university has a roommate matching form! You fill it out and they match you up with someone based on how compatible you are
some colleges definitely do this!! i went to yale over the summer and it was the same thing there!
Love all the points you made! I chose a random roommate, but we got matched super well😂 tons in common, but not so similar that we will get sick of it. Shes got cool stuff I want to learn about, and I have stuff she does too. Those who are worried, it 90% of the time is GOOD. Randomly though it can be rough, so talk to an RA, and if its super bad you can ALWAYS request to be moved.
I'm happy you had a good experience. I've had roommates for awhile now and I am just now figuring out that if I am annoyed by something and I don't COMMUNICATE that I am annoyed and build resentment and get angry then that means I am the asshole. It inspires me to get better at saying no and saying when something bothers me. Communication is like 90 percent of a good roommate experience

Damn... We pay thousands of dollars for college. So why the hell they only offer tiny double rooms or even worse?!? Yes, there are single rooms sometimes but really a few
also, you have to pay more for a single room. so it kinda sucks all around.
Think about roommates on a bright side, you make a friend right away, and get to share your college experience with another guy / girl.

@@knlg3999 it isn't that easy. i had a doctor tell me i couldn't room with someone, because i get so anxious around other people and need my personal space to calm down and have something that i can control my own. i was going to get a note before COVID, and since i haven't been able to go back in person, i was unable to get the note and now have to have a roommate, 3 actually, which is only increasing my stress levels. it really is not as simple as "you'll be fine", there are multiple mental health illnesses where it is ideal to have your own space.
Most of these principles can be applied to any relationship/ friendship etc. Quite a lot of these items were issues discussed in my pre-marital counseling over twenty years ago. Learning how to live with other people. Most things are common sense, but not all parents/ households teach common sense and decency these days. To some people each of these subjects might be totally foreign.
I roomed with my identical twin in the dorms and SO glad I got to do that. If we fought we still talked to each other in the morning.

I am going to be a junior in college, and I had a really bad experience with my roommate freshman year! My roommate did not communicate or talk at all and we were not friends. This video is so spot on!
With people like that, you have to work on non-verbal cues so you can have a working relationship. And know it’s okay to walk into a room without saying hi or goodnight or goodbye and be okay with situations. Let it all just flow. Work around, like in a computer/video game and the obstacles.

Me and my sister are a little bit like opposites and actually do these things lol
Our rule is to be quite before 10AM, because we both stay up late but I wake up around 8 and she wakes up at around 11. After 10 I am allowed to open the blinds, listen to music (within a reasonable volume) etc etc. Before 10AM I cannot shine lights around etc. She can continue to sleep after 10 but she cannot get mad at me for making noises. Same thing for night time, we go to bed at around 10, if one of us is in bed after 10 with the lights off trying to sleep the other one cannot turn the lights on and has to use a flashlight.
This rule works miracles so I definitely suggest it

TAKING NOTE
I'm already annoyed with my roommate because it is two weeks from move in, and I have only talked to her on our orientation day. I then was added to a group because the way ours works is its two girls in a dorm, a bathroom in between two rooms, and then two other girls on the other side and all four of you share a bathroom. I have talked to my suite mates a lot about lots of different stuff, meaning personal stuff and fun stuff such as music and decor, but this girl ghosted our suite mates and will not accept my contact requests and so I have just been having to buy all the cleaning stuff and trying to split things with my suite mates instead because she will not COMMUNICATE...I am genuinely worried to live with this girl if she is this inconsiderate and unwilling to talk to us. It is too late to find someone new. She was talking to us at first and we have no idea what happened...AHHHHH lol.

I don’t know if I am weird but in my first year I hate having friends in dorm because of my sleep schedule I have class at 8 I love to sleep they want to stay awake , i really hate ittttt I was feeling uncomfortable I even bought eye mask wearing EarPods when sleeping . After that I left the room and I went to other room and I was lonely. So I am going the second year and I am wishing that I have friends that I like and fit to them

I've always wondered about something, why do u guys spend so much money to go to college in the US and spend so much money while u might move to a European country and spend waaaaay less?

My mom had a roommate who didn’t do her laundry, didn’t shower or do anything to actually clean herself up. It got so bad that my mom and her two other roommates dumped her into the tub.
As long as I don’t have a roommate like that, I’ll be golden.
