Thank you so much for the wonderful Hawaiian names and details! So helpful to have the clip to show when I teach the Geography-Biology of coral reefs to 16-18year. I am understanding more of how each specie is important to the reefs, some of which i saw briefly during a visit to Maui in May! Hoping to visit again to appreciate snorkeling activities with these new insights!
This is great! I hope you make more like this. Then I can show them to people who are going to snorkel or dive in Hawaii for their first time, before they go! Couple of questions: a) Does the name humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa also refer to the Picassofish aka lagoon triggerfish? b) When you introduce the gray chub, doesn't the first scene you show have mostly highfin chub (aka topsail chub)? I think I see some gray chub a couple of cuts later, but at first I think it's mostly highfin chubs.
Mahalo! I went back to review the Moorish Idol footage, there is a Linckia seastar in the background :) they vary in color from a light blue to a mint green. Good spotting!
Hello! I love you channel, I love everything to do with the ocean and my dream is to be a marine biologist 😊 I was wondering what is your most favourite fish, mine is a volition lion fish 🐠! Thanks sooooo much for posting amazing, educational videos 😆😆😆😆
Ooooh! Thats such a tough question, haha! Disclaimer: my favorite fish changes all the time, but right now I love the Commersons Frogfish - they are so "derpy!" O_o
Aren’t all the oceans connected so it can’t be invasive because it could also go back to where it came from and more of them could come to Hawaii if they wanted to even if humans put them in the water
I just love seeing how these fish live in the same environments and evolve so differently. That butterfly fish was incredibly beautiful
Please produce another youtube like this with more fish. So many people who live here in Hawaii could benefit from learning more.
Such a informative video..as a aquarium lover this is awesome!
Great video. Straight to the point.

Nice educational video! Does Hawaii have blue sea stars? I spotted one on the Moorish Idol clip.

I like the way you think I agree 🐠
reef fish typically do not cross hundreds or thousands of miles of open deep-sea
