Joyous Yule and happy holidays everyone! I hope this finds you hale and merry, wherever you are.
Unfortunately I’ve had a run of bad health, and I lost my voice for a stretch of time. Making an instrumental was a nice way to keep creating music despite this, so please enjoy this chill old-timey cover of Wham!’s “Last Christmas”. (If you participate in Whamageddon, fear not, only the original version counts.)
I do have more vocal covers on the way soon, and an upcoming musical collaboration with the medieval manuscript fighting game Inkulinati. I've also been slowly updating and remastering my older covers and uploading them to Spotify. This song should be up by the 15th of this month. Thank you everyone for your continued patience and support!
About the Art:

The lovers are a reconstructed illustration by me based on “Leontion”, illumination from the manuscript “Cas des nobles hommes et femmes”, ms. Français 12420, f. 93r, 15th century, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Département des manuscrits, Paris. - Видеоклипы
You guys are the sweetest people, thank you for your well wishes. 🥹♥️ I’m doing much better and excited to get back to singing. If you want to put this on your Christmas playlist, you can now listen on Spotify here: open.spotify.com/track/2kOSLQgUWwkIk3GgUzCaN9?si=Tc62gtr4T8u9orvzrJ1G5Q
More to come there in the New Year! 🎉
Just discovered this, it would be the perfect song for wrapping up a long Xmas meetup/party.
Take this sub, and I hope you've recovered fully by now! while I'm waiting for my sinus drainage almost three months after my infection began LMFAO
your voice is truly unique I love it
When the world needed her most, she RETURNED!
A cover that doesn’t turn on my Peter Lorre voice
‘ I’m , I’m screaming of a … white Christmas.’
She never left
Is that an atla reference?
See that one set of footprints in the sand?
She was carrying you the whole time.
Yeah, take THAT Avatar Aang!
I always imagine a time traveler teaching these bangers to a band in some middle age tavern
me too, I thought i was the only weirdo.
Yay im not alone!
WITCH!
Same here! Nice to know I'm not the only one :)
One of the more amusing bits of the final season of Agents of Shield had a time traveler forming a band in the 80's with a bunch of songs that he "wrote." Almost as good but not quite.
When Hildegard von Blingin' posts, everything else must pause. 🙌🏼
I have just paused the film 😆😆
She is a branch of government!
This is the Way.
Yeah... except she didn't post.. this is an instrumental... no lyrics..
@@RUclipsCensorship. Sorry everyone, Blingin' didn't post anything because you can only express with written words, this has all been a figment of our imagination, time for us all to go home, nothing to see here.
I think this might be the prettiest version of this song I've ever heard.
try Leigh Nash’s
@@alysdexia How does it sound?
@@carriecollins6697 her singing sounds like wine glasses.
@alysdexia Ooooooh I'm listening to that.
@@alysdexia Okay, not quite what I was expecting when you said her voice sounds like water glasses, but I definitely get what you mean. Her voice does have a very similar shape and essence to water glasses.
I can’t wait for a version with lyrics. “Last Yuletide, I bestowed my heart. Alas, the next day, thou gave it away.”
YES. Lol.
and of course it would be pronounced bestowèd.
"This year, to spare mine self tears. I'll grace it to one so special."
"This time(/tide), so tears keep inside, it shall be with whomst I can confide."
‘Thou gavest it away’
*A whole "Christmas Bardcore" album should happen before we all bid farewell to 2022.*
You underestimate the time it takes to write arrangements; but generally, I'm on board with this petition.
Yes please ♥
2023 might be more realistic, great idea though👍♥️😊
You must have a typo there on the year, considering what our Lady said about the present condition of her voice!
Did You mean 1222?
This is what plays in the beginning of a medieval Christmas Hallmark movie. Love it ❤️😭
Why is this not a thing!
a girlboss noble maiden who does not believe in anything but logic meets a poor tavern owner and is forced into discovering the spirit of yuletide (and love) when a blizzard makes it so she cannot take her carriage back home. They vehemently hate each other until longterm exposure forces them to remove their prejudices, to which they immediately fall deeply in love. The antagonist is her advisor probably and also the fact that the tavern is about to be shut down. The day is saved via a Christmas miracle (it is also heavily implied there are fae messing with them the entire time)
I want this.
Yes ♥
@@lemonberry_soda Hollywood needs to make this a movie immediately lol, I want to watch it!!!
I listened to half the song waiting for the singing to start until I finally read the title and it said "instrumental" 😅
It's still beautiful! I hope you recover soon!
Oh dear haha I hope nobody is disappointed. Thanks for staying ❤️
Same lol🥲💔
@@Hildegardvonblingin I am a little disappointed, but it's still good. Are you planning to post a version with lyrics?
@@FlyingDominion Fair enough! I don't plan on updating it, partly because even before I lost my voice I was finding that it didn't sound particularly good with vocals. The melody is very modern no matter which way you approach it, but I could take liberties by playing it on a whistle.
@@Hildegardvonblingin Just get well and don't strain that lovely voice. I have a strong feeling Hildegard von Bingen would approve of your songs. Music was one of her many gifts.
This year, to save me from tears, I’ll be giving my heart to Hildegard Von Blingin’.
Feel better soon, Hildegard! May you have a happy Yule this season! :)
Christians stole Yule and like all thieves......pretend it's theirs. Hypocrite Christians love Yule and pretend it's Jesus' birthday. People that for the most part, don't follow going to church and obeying their own rules.
When Hildegard drops a new song the world goes NUTS!😅
Remeber guys: Covers of this song DO NOT COUNT in the Whammageddon Challenge! So you can enjoy this all you want!
That's why I'm here! Still avoiding Whamhalla.
I’m listening from Whamhalla anyway 😭😂
@@FluffyMaisan May the Whamkyries welcome you, brave warrior.
I lost today. Heard it in the background of the film "The Holiday". Hey ho,
This will forever be the only version of this song I will willingly listen to.
Amen!
I recommend at least first taking one final chance to watch the video "Svulstig Last Christmas"
(An opera decided to do a poppy christmas medley with... interesting results)
S A M E
Preach it!
@@metallsnubben That's the best thing I've ever seen! It's like watching a performance from a high school choir that was allowed to pick their own ideas that year, except these are actual professionals that should have known better
Joyous Yule! Sometimes I get so distracted by your beautiful voice that I forget to compliment your instrumental arrangements.
That is so much appreciated! I work hard on each one and it’s easy for them to get a bit overshadowed sometimes. 😂
@@Hildegardvonblingin And the art! You are very appreciated.
Does not matter the song. I am required to watch any video you release the second I discover it!
I imagine this playing in a medieval movie like A Knight’s Tale during Christmas. Two strangers meet at a dance hall, and later fall into a steamy romance 🔥🎄🎇
Last Yuletide, I gav'st thou mine heart
Upon Stephen's day, thou cast it away
...
Thankfully, a cover does not end Whamageddon.
I’ve already been Whammed this December. 🪦
@@Hildegardvonblingin :-(
Its a pleasure to see you come back Lady Hildegard, and you brought present for us as well, thank you for the hard work and hope you the best for the season.
I've been needing more Von Blingin' in my life.
Thank you for all that you do!
Namaste 🙏
After quite awhile of not being able to listen to Christmas music because it was painful or made me feel numb, I finally started listening to some of my old favorites again. It's fate you posted this, one of my favorite Christmas songs, when I felt ready to listen to Christmas music again. Thank you so much for just being you and sharing your gifts, this has truly made my evening.
If you’re looking for unique instrumental Christmas that might not have memories attached I recommend Gregg Miner
The same feeling here ❄️✨️🌟
@@ariadne0w1 where can i find him? Tried looking on RUclips but found nothing
❤
Oh dear...I don't know what pain you're carrying but I hope you heal soon.
This works almost *too* well.
Yet another Banger from Hildegard von Blingin'
Oh, thank you so much! Merry Christmas everybody ❤️
So sorry to hear about your health. I'm unfortunately in the same boat, so I completed understand and wish you well. Hope you feel better and get fully well soon!
Thank you and feel better soon!
I’m impressed by the accuracy of her chant notation. It matches the melody pitches.
Thank you! It’s very much an approximation but I researched medieval notation for two hours before making this. Then after uploading a draft I realized one note was off and the whole last measure was wrong and had to remake the video. 😅
@@Hildegardvonblingin Thou art too good for us, Dear Sainted Mother Superior.
It's really good to have you back! I hope you've been able to recover and that you're doing well now. Looking forward to any future content!
This version of last Christmas is the only version I want too hear more than once. Thank you Hildegard von Blingin and a blessed Yule to you.
Oh Hildegarde, what beauty hast thou wrought! You are a golden treasure hung in my heart. Thank you, for sharing your gifts and your passions with the world. Your music brings me joy. Happiest Christmas to you dear lady.
Thank you lovely! Merry Christmas! 🎄
I listened to this from the beginning to the end with my eyes closed and smiling contently. I never do this. Thank you greatly for those few minutes of peace granted to me this evening.
Was just looking for a Christmas song to vibe to 🎄It literally sounds like some mystical, beautiful romantic song
Now THAT is a Christmas present I was waiting for! 🥰
It wonders me to no end how every air of Hildegard von Blingin' manages to pierce straight through all anxiety, set itself in the heart and fill the soul with peace and joy.
That made my day, thank you so much! ❤
Never thought I'd pause another video for Last Christmas, but I'm glad I did.
The earring!! *chef's kiss*
I was playing your cover of Bad Romance at work and my manager stopped me to ask why that cover was so fire, so thank you for helping convince my coworkers that I have great taste in music.
I wish you good health! Hope you'll recover soon
Literally the most anticipated video release on any youtube channel for me. So worth the wait.
An instrumental is so integral for holiday party background music. I can't often comfortably listen to things with lyrics if I'm socializing, so I appreciate that you're resting your voice for multiple reasons. Be well and thank you!
Thank you Sarah, I really appreciate that perspective. I love playing my whistles almost as much as singing, so it’s nice to put them at the forefront. ❤ Merry Christmas!
This is just a really beautiful track, with or without the Christmas connection, it's just a joy to listen to and I am so happy Maesteress Von Blingin is uploading more of her songs and covers to Spotify, so I can listen to them on the go
"Previous Yuletide, I present'd my heart. Lo, 'pon the followin' day, thou cast it away..."
A bardcore Christmas album for 2023 like this would be so stunning. Absolutely beautiful
‘Tis beautiful!
Just today, I was thinking about this song. It doesn't really have much to do with Christmas, but it's such a good song that we all just rejoice when we hear it on the radio again at Christmas time.
Then I was wondering what a Bardcore version of it would sound like, then lo and behold, I get one. 'Tis a Christmastide miracle!
1) "Last Christmas" is _NOT_ a xmas song! 👈
2) Your version is finally one, that doesn't makes my ears bleeding. 😉
3) Thanx a lot, for coming back! ❤
I will also listen to "Last Christmas" any time of the year!
I'm literally listening to Wham! these past days. And now, you uploaded Last Christmas! Finally, welcome back!
What a wonderful song! I'm sorry your health has taken a hit but hopefully you'll bounce back soon.❤🙏🥰
I was going to say it needed vocals but then saw your post about losing your voice. Please get well soon. The world needs your voice!
YEES! She's making her own instrumentals now. I can't wait for a fully Hildegard von Blingin masterpiece.
You’re here!!!! You’re back! I’m so glad you’re still creating bardcore; I’ve missed your uploads. :)
Legend
A performance so magical it could belong on top of a pyre.
Brings to mind such nasty things as Nazi book burnings, witch hunts etc. Hopefully you had something better in mind!
another bardcore banger 🥹 ily hildegard 🤍🤍
OMG 😍😍😍 She's back!!! Finally a good version of this song
try Leigh Nash’s
I hope you feel better fast, if you are still fighting the bad health!
My favorite Christmas song remade in old-fashioned sense.
Last Christmas, I said that thou art; the very next day, I heard thee say nay
Congrats you have made a version of this song that doesn't trigger my Holiday Retail Worker PTSD.
Beautiful! Wonderful! Thank You! Be well, rest, restore, all will be well and strong again soon!!
💪🏽🌻💙🙏🏽💛🦋🕊🌅
Always glad to see notifications that you posted anything. Best wishes, hope you make a full recovery!
I’ve been following your videos for a while. Such an interesting idea. To take the medieval phenomenon which Hildegard von Bingen undoubtedly was and use her soundscape with modern tracks, genius.
Keep up the good work, I look forward to more.
I'm sorry you've had bad health lately. I hope you regain your voice soon. I've really enjoyed your music over the last couple of years!
I grew up with a CD that ONLY had the instrumental version on so this was weirdly nostalgic for me, thank you for sharing ❤️🥺
This is the best instrumental version of the knight Georgios of Saint Michael :)
me when hildegard uploads: 🏃🏃
Even the Gregorian Chant square notes match with proper intonation! A cover of one of my fav Christmas Songs! Beautiful!
I audibly gasped when I saw that you posted something new. Merry Yule to you all❤
Ok I love how the melody in neumatic notation is actually correct
I found myself with 4 minutes and 54 seconds of blessings! I was just thinking about how much I missed your content! Welcome back!
The song sounds hopeful, as if it all hinges on the "next year..." line. What a way to end 2022!
Such a magical vibe!! I can totally imagine a medieval tale where a peasant woman (or boy) falls in love with a prince (or princess, it doesn't matter what gender they fell in love with lol), during the christmas season, but then he breaks her heart and never returns, and then this song represents that person a year later looking up at the starry sky thinking about his lost love.
This is beautiful
Was expecting vocal version when the notification pop up (clicked so fast I didn't read the "instrumental" part lol) but its completely understandable when I read the description. Hope and pray your health gets better
Thank you, I know it’s not quite my usual. I appreciate you listening though!
The way I pre-liked Hildegard's new single and she served, ate, and slayed.
I wish you good health for the holidays! Thanks for the songs and the delight they bring to all those who listen to them!
Pretty
Last Yuletide, I gave you mine heart
Yet on the next morrow, you cast it away
This year, to preserve my tears
I shall give it to one most worthy
Last Yuletide, I gave you mine heart
Yet on the next morrow, you cast it away
This year, to preserve my tears
I shall give it to one most worthy
Once bitten and twice shy
I stand aloof, yet thou doth capture mine eye
Prithee darling, dost thou know my face?
‘Tis no marvel, it hath been a whole year
I know it's not a perfect fit and I didn't have time to try and rewrite the whole song. I hope you start feeling better Hildegard!
I unambiguously think this is one of the best versions of this song. Good job, and happy holidays!
This made my heart ache in a sad but beautiful way 🥺
I pray that ye be of good health again soon, my dearest Hildegard! I can't wait to hear your angelic voice again - here and in Inkulinati!
It's honestly a treat whenever a Hildegard Von Blingin' video appears in my subscriptions section.
I'm preparing a lecture for my music appreciation class. I decided to go backwards through time, so I started with contemporary Western classical music and am ending the semester with Gregorian chant and secular instrumental and vocal music from the Middle Ages. This is PERFECT as I always begin my class with some music that's not on the test, but is interesting and fits the theme!!! I'm super excited for them to enjoy your cover!! Literally perfect timing!
She’s back!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
That's actually pretty mindblowing
My favorite Christmas song in its best version ❤️ definetly ethereal
You're doing music for Inkulinati?? THAT'S SICK AS HELL, they're so lucky to have scored you!! I'm definitely picking up that game, and looking forward to hearing your work there!
Hope you're feeling better soon - happy Christmas to you and yours :)
There’s something so emotional and nostalgic about this version. It feels so powerful and a little bittersweet, in that way that it reminds you of all the Christmases you can’t go back to. But there’s also something lovely about that, about looking back and reminiscing.
Excellent rendition, got me tearing up a little!
Thank you for saying that! There was a core to the song that worked surprisingly well.
Amazing. Is perfect
" (If you participate in Whamageddon, fear not, only the original version counts.) " Thank se Lords for that, almost didn't listen to your latest gift to the musical world.
Get better soon.
Saw the notification, had to drop everything. Von Blingin' posting takes priority
Phenomenal as always!
Wishing you a speedy recovery for you beautiful voice - thank you for the charming gifts of music and song you always gift us!
By God, Hildegard Von Blingin' you have done it yet again!!!
And yet again, our graceful milady returned when we needed her most.
It doesn’t seem like a sad song when you hear this version, it sounds so romantic.
Feel better soon! This is already a beautiful gift to enjoy 😊
Last Yuletide,
I gave thee mine heart.
But with sunrise next day,
thou gavest it away.
This year,
to stifle mine tears,
I grant it to someone special.
One channel thay always hits the target with the medieval long bow. Love it. I am seeing comments about wishing her recovery from something. Hope she gets better!
1. Didn't know gender till now.
2. Didn't know there was a health issue...
3. So good to see all the unanimous love for this type of music.
4. Telling everyone I know about this amazing channel lol.
Glad you're doing better. I hope you make a full recovery. And I'm glad you're back.
Ah geez, I only just realized that this is a new video. I really love the branding consistency, but the thumbnails really blend together
