    Thanks for the video looks easy enough. The Toyota dealer didn’t tighten my wife’s oil drain bolt other than hand tight so now she finally believes that I need to change her oil not those morons. Oil leaked on the garage floor but not too much so we lucked out as it was three weeks after the oil change.

    U-dah-man Hung Tang. Oil changing is so different from the way it used to be for these little SUVs. I had my way with my 2002 CRV for 13 years and now I am moving on to the RAV4.

    I put all the tools just for this job in a kit I keep with the car tire. Since do it often enough, it just make since to keep it together. No going to the tool box and (size socket? Umm, pick? did I need an extension?) hunting. Oil pan/rags/gloves under tool box. Start to finish....15 min!!! I'll race you guys any day!

    Replacing the O-rings before inserting the paper filter would be much safer. Keep in mind that any sort of dirt or dust on the filter will end up inside the motor.

    Hung! Nice, very informative. Just did the O/C, W/F on my 2015, (all previous being done by the dealer under a service package). That being said, (a Jimmie quote), I was unimpressed with their engineering approach. Before I explain I will say I do not know if the paper element cartridge type filter is vastly superior to the paper element "in a can", screw on filter. I sincerely hope it is. Because if it is not, we have an engineering solution in search of a problem. Further explanation; I have a car which has the cartridge type under the hood, at the top, cap up, element down. Super easy to change, kudos to the engineers! Obviously, if it had a "can" type filter what a holy shit mess it would make. On the RAV all points down, great for a "can" type filter. No pre-cap with O ring, no "beer keg" tap to insert, no special tool required to remove the secondary cap. And just as important, less mess. I have done hundreds of DIY O/C's with "can" type filters with hardly a drop spilled, (in a lot tighter spaces). I can only assume that this was the only place to locate the filter and they were concerned that a "can" type may hang down and be exposed to damage. So, they went with a low profile cartridge type, rather than re-engineer the block. The Japanese engineer some fine cars. A while ago I traded in an Isuzu for a GM HHR. Very bad decision on my part, 100,000 miles and junk, won't get fooled again. Still miss the Datsun's, great cars and light trucks.

      +Hung Tang those are oem washers for all toyotas, usually dealers get them and they are hard to come by. there are plenty of crush washers on the market, silicone, copper, aluminum, brass, any metal more pliable than iron would work fine

    You should have put oil in the oil filter before reinstalling it. I would also recommend using Royal Purple synthetic oil and RP filters. If Royal is too costly, I would only go down to Mobile 1 synthetic and their oil filter. I also add Arch Oil to my oil. I picked that tip up from watching Jay Leno's garage and use it in all my vehicles. My oil changes aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for in the long run. Checkout RP heat test on RUclips.

      There are special procedure of transmission fluid replaced. I used to work for Toyota over 3 years. This guy showing you to change the small O-ring when you don't need to replaced it. Only replaced large o-ring and oil filter A1 that it. Until 10k you can replaced the small o-ring. The most important thing you supposed to replaced the large o-ring on the cartridge filter unit and oil filter. I have work on Toyota car for over 15 yrs.

      +2010V6RAV4 My point is that there is a new special procedure the proper to drain and refill with special tool. My point is have you done it before? I have and it is very difficult procedure.

      WRXRED2018 Subaru, please stick with your Subaru. Toyota oil filters include the small o-ring for replacement has its reason as the o-ring in this application is compressed by the filter drain cap; STOP voice your wrong opinion and give views a wrong expectation by backing with you "work for Toyota over 3 years..." - only means you screwed those customers for 3-years! Thank goodness you are not working for Toyota any more. Please no need for reply, just shhhhhh - that's golden.

      Yeah, because trusting the dealership to do any work on your car is a wise idea. They never do anything wrong.

    • @tousshong9438
      @tousshong9438 8 лет назад +1

      Correction, they lost my wheel lock key when I went in for an oil change and tire rotation. They end up having them get me a new replacement. Also, I found out with the 2 years free oil change included with new vehicle purchased, they won't change the oil until 10,000 miles so when the maintenance light comes up at 5K, they just reset. LOL.

    • @imports4lifetoyotalexus98
      @imports4lifetoyotalexus98 8 лет назад +1

      Tom Shong Some dealership with free complimentary service Express tech sometime don't even change the oil filter and they change the oil and tire rotation. Because so many noob does that in some dealership. Sometimes I can't trust them because it happen to me so I report their owner and big and all the express lube tech was fired. Because they got caught in camera and I left mark to see if they change my oil filter and my cabin and air filter. You can't never trust them. Before you leave the dealership make sure they replaced it. Always mark them.

    • @molfar8715

      The reason is obvious: make it difficult so you have to buy extra tools and those are no good for anything else but this job. Add more little parts vulnerable to brake if you do sloppy job. And you got a new line of sales! ;)))
