Last year I volunteered at film festival in Wrocław, where we had screenings of "Memory - The Origins of Alien" and he was one of the invited guests I worked with. Really nice guy, was always on time and where he was supposed to be. And he actually cared about using his guest pass too see as much films as he could fit into his schedule. All the best for him, and may we meet again!
Originally released back in 2013 and now after 10 years, this video is still one of the most-viewed TEDx Talks specials that I have ever found and is already a classic that is sure to be available for generations. I believe that Alexandre O. Philippe should make a second talk during 2024 at the same place that he was there to attend as the lead speaker for this event as pop culture is discussed exclusively in front of a live studio audience.
God he's great....I really feel a lot like he does when it comes down to the pop culture world we are in now with how much love and respect we and all other people like us have for it no matter what it is that we love about it.
pop culture is just that, popular culture. not long lasting or deep, its the general dominant very much western internet based culture. it does bring people together but it also divides them like any facet of human culture.
i disagree with the idea that pop culture isn't long lasting and deep for i believe pop culture much more grander than that but i think your right for the most part actually
This is a good Tedx Talk that exemplifies, I think, the third of four categories Bruce F. Forbes and Jeffrey H. Mahan describe in their book _Religion and Popular Culture in America_ (2003) describe as "popular culture as religion".
culture as a language is just culture specific..'pop' is universal? perhaps in terms of US Anything you add to instincts (smile is relaxing) gets 'interpreted' by cultural specifics of bee holder's eyes
I don't see the point of trying to be interested in something that you're not just because the majority is interested in it. There are other ways to relate. The weather, almost everyone has a family, etc.also I'm a big proponent of people finding their try versus trying to relate with everybody.
Note on TCM/"39 Steps" He says Donat and Mr. Memory appear "at the same theatre" in the opening and concluding scenes. I don't think so. The first is a raucous music hall with a lively bar crowd. The last is the more-sober London Palladium.
PSY IS NOT POP CULTURE and HE DOESN'T MATTER because Pop culture has to be some kind of art as well. Then only it will be respected. Gangnam style was bad example. Ever since that gangnam style came Psy couldnt replicate the success because he is not ACTUALLY talented ..Now a days...Tik Tok people get millions of views. I won't say that they are pop culture!
Popular culture as "universal" and uniting "across racial, political, and social divides"? I couldn't disagree more with this definition of popular culture nowadays.

Excellent.. conveys a lot of conceptual clarity about pop culture in a simple way
Indeed it's a universal ♾️ language 🕊️✌️
It says something about our better nature 🥺
What a fun guy. Loved the message.
Agreed. I like tv so obscure that it’s on the public domain. Just entertain yourself with whatever works for you.
Forest Park, brought me here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goooo Archerssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fun fact - it's actually "no, i am your father"
He calls himself an expert on Pop Culture and then wrongly quotes possibly one of the most iconic cinematic quotes ever.

The statistics about film being lost before the 1920's and half being lost after the 1950's - very debatable.

I'm assuming all of us are here for the school essay
The thousands of school assignments about this video proove that your teachers are freaking Star Wars Boomers
Yeah Star Wars hasn't been good since at least the '80s, hence not many Star Warsers are born past 1965.
@@canesvenatici4259 could i ask some of the stuff you smoke? Because it really seems powerful
@@orlandofurioso7329You think I'm wrong about Star Wars?
@@canesvenatici4259 yes, because episode 7 and 9 were made by a guy that had your same reasoning regarding only the first three as real Star Wars

vhug7uu8u pop
It's very Western centric so I would argue that it really only speaks to people in the West and nowhere else.
American popular culture, in my opinion, is a deconstruct culture.
not really
No elaboration or anything lol
Nice wording there, Carl.
Miley Cyrus. Enough elaboration?
One direction literally united the world and it was viewed as unimportant so uh yeah

I don't see the point of trying to be interested in something that you're not just because the majority is interested in it.

Hi everyone
here for my global media course lmao fun
America is not the first civilization that made fun important
I'm just watching this to find out how to be normal. Because according to my sister I am different.
Each individual has qualities that may be unique from another, so being different does not necessarily mean that it's a bad thing :)
*Gangnam Style saved the world*😐
