Quick answer... yes! Personally I use Himalayan salt in a litre bottle of mineral water whilst fasting and sip it throughout the day. For me, it works. And doesn’t break a fast and helps keep energy levels stable.
OMAD Carnivore John
Are you getting any artificial sweeteners or sucrose sweeteners? Liver can change those other sweeteners to glucose. And don’t forget an old horseman problem: Feeding oats is like feeding sugar. Makes the horse frisky. That is why you feed oats to a race horse, but not the kids show horse. Are you eating oats?
Heidi Kluger (not sure if you’re being serious?!) no sugar and/or sweeteners and no oats. I’ve been strict Carnivore for two years doing OMAD, ADF and EF cyclically. Liked your analogy but not applicable. Thanks for your reply.
OMAD Carnivore John
Sorry, just trying to help.
Jonny, what good is the size of the vessel if you don't mention the amount of slat. I put salt in a bucket of water and drink it all day vs I put a tsp of salt in a litter of water and drink it all day. Math teacher ...
It's a flipping shame to break your fast you warm the bone broth in the microwave
I think you should have eaten, drank and fasted exactly the same prior to testing in order to accurately compare your results.
I think this experiment needs to be carried out for 7 days to get a more accurate picture. The results would be fascinating.
I love your videos when you sit at the kitchen table hacking your bodies and reveal test results using your scientific method. And it is so instructional to see the differences in results from 2 different bodies after doing the same things. Keep up the good work!
Interesting and yes my husband and I are also very different. I gave up sugar when I was pregnant while my husband indulged in lots of sweets. When my midwife tested my blood sugar she said it was high...What??? I said test my husband's, he just ate a ton of cookies. She did and his blood sugar was fine. Really? Clearly, it's frustrating.
I'd definitely eat a few more sweets then. Not fair. 😊
@@pjmiller8632 We'll have to even the score in some other way. LOL
Great video...I like the proof of metabolisms behaving differently and somewhat legitimizing the struggle that some folks have with losing weight AKA much harder.
There is a big difference between a 12 hour fast and a 30 hour fast, that could precipitate your results as well as your metabolism would.
This bone broth would be great for traveling. When we all start traveling again 🙏🏼
You guys are encouraging with your differences. My husband and I are the same except he is quite consistently in ketosis and high ketones; for me to stay in ketosis I have to use OMAD and keep my carbs below 10g. And even then there are days that I will bump out of ketosis. Watching you guys keeps me motivated to keep going.
I drank 3 cups of my homemade bone broth with butter added yesterday. This morning I had coffee with butter and heavy cream. Midway through coffee I remembered to check ketosis it was 2.2. The best morning read ever. I’m 53, female.
How do I check my ketosis level and what is a good level?
I always break my fasts longer than a day with some chicken bone broth. Its very soothing and eases the acidity from fasting. I put ACV, garlic, and salt in mine. I get it from the store and its just pure bone broth. Its very delicious after not eating for so long and goes down smooth.
Absolutely LOVED this video. I am doing an extended fast now and was looking at the bone broth (Kettle & Fire) that I have at home. I have intermittent fasted quite a bit and extended 5 days or 12 days a couple times. What I noticed is that different "flavors" of the K&F bone broth have different amounts of calories and such. If I remember correctly the mushroom version was significantly lower in calories etc. If a person fasting wants to use the bone broth maybe compare the different types and pick one according to the 'least likely' to get a significant response. Just a thought. Again, wonderful video. Thanks!
This was thee most informative raw video ive seen in quite sometime thanx a bunch for the information
I would tend to be like Keith I'm afraid, being T2. But I don't think I could fast without it. So hopefully I would derive some benefit anyway.
Fascinating, more proof we are all different and the different methods work differently for each of us. Thanks for doing this!
May I suggest that you test the variability of your measurement systems? In order to reject the hypothesis, you should know the measurement system variability. Then, you can judge if the results you are observing in your tests are significant. For example, I did three consecutive glucose measurements, one after the other, and measured 95, 91, 98. This amount of variability needs to be considered. I love your channel and your strong desire to understand the truth.
I had this exact question... thanku for doing this test!
Second night into my fasting and my absolute raging hunger brought me here.
At the hospital we have powdered beef and chicken broth. I decided to reconstitute a little less than half the packet. I hope it doesn't mess me.up too bad. But im getting hangry and im sure my patients and coworkers have noticed 🙄
Newbie here, subscribed half way through this video! This was very helpful thank you so much! 🤗
Another great video, 30 hours is beyond me unfortunately. I manage to fast from 6pm to 8am everyday and struggle to go longer. Never tried bonebroth so will have to give it a go.
I love your videos. Would you consider doing some testing to see if cocoa powder and hydrolized collagen break a fast? I like mixing them in my coffee in the morning.
Thanks for the work!
I'm new to 2 fit docs...i love your channel! You are both very charming & interesting to listen to! I just started keto & IF...loving it & inspired by your channel. I am also post menopausal... I'm in the midst of considering bioidentical hormone replacement - for disease prevention. I'm interested in your take on bhrt?
Thank you Dr Becky and Dr Keith. This is a very informative piece of news. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us folks who are trying to be healthy and stay away from doctors and hospitals - the health system (the unhealthy system) generally.
I love when you both do testing. 🤗. For me, I don’t drink bone broth when fasting. Thank you Dr Becky, thank you Dr Keith! 👍💕. (Dr Keith, is this your new nick name...”steady Eddy” 😬)?
I would like to see that closer towards the middle of the day. Keith's morning liver dump might have been part of the equation.
Liver dump? Ewh. 😅
@@BillDeWitt Thanks Bill. ☺️
I agree, it may have been the dawn effect if it was early in the morning.
You ask a question that can be answered before you ever put that cup to your lips. If you define fasting as the absence of ingesting calories, which is the true definition of fasting, then yes, it breaks your fast. The questions you seem to answer is “does bone broth cause a rise in glucose and/or a drop in ketones during a fast?” Just my thoughts. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Excellent video!
I absolutely love & appreciate your videos. I always find them informative. Thanks! ☺️
More proof that one size does not fit all. Do your research and experimenting and figure out what works for you. We'll all get there eventually. 🙂
Love these testing videos 😇😍🤗
Could it be because Keith was in a 30hr fasted state and was a little more insulin sensitive
thanks for sharing your test! My husband and I also have different glucose and ketone patterns while fasting. Love K&F, too! ...please don't kill all the goodness by microwaving it :(
Why not microwave? Its already ultraprocessed... All dead, just proteins and flavors...
Gut biome.
I was having cravings beyond my ability to control, found a probiotic I like the effects of, 3 caps at a time instead of just one, while fasting... cravings STOPPED such a relief to get control back.
Going to see if that helps me. Thks!
Going to see if that works for me. I'm having a terrible time lately with control. Thanks.
I'm new to IF. Just today I tried bone broth during my eating window. I had it with my lunch. It's warm and comforting and probably a lot better for me than coffee or tea. I may start using it regularly.
Because its FOOD, tea and coffee are just drinks with no proteins/fat.
This could be proof that fasting and keto/low carb work differently for men and women, too.
I don't know, I am a woman and my result are like Keith's
You are such a lovely couple!🌻Thank you
P.s.And I love your sweet doggy💞
Wow! That's very interesting. Everyone is so different. There is not a one size fits all is there. Testing yourself is key. I use bone broth as my "training wheels" to help me go longer.
may i ask how u consume it? like 250 mils at one sitting or sip.sip sip
So helpful. Thanks for sharing!!
Awesome work!!Thank you!!👍🌹
For fasting you have to make your own broth bone! 100% natural… industrial broth has a lot conserved
I am wondering if Dr Keith extended fast may have had to more insulin sensitive and would skew the results. I think you should redo this experiment 😊
You make a good point. There's quite a difference between a 12 and a 30 hr fast. I also would like to see a do-over to see how it affects Keith's numbers. Conversely - while it would certainly be inconvenient - it would be interesting to see how Dr. Becky's numbers compared to Kieth's after she fasted for 30 hours... I suspect I am hoping for too much there.. however, since I can fast myself and I have plenty of bone broth and all the ketone / glucose testing equipment, I suppose I could run a couple tests myself and see how my numbers compared ...
No do-overs! These tests are already a pain to do but your point is valid. I fasted longer to hopefully ensure that I would be in ketosis 1st thing in the morning.
I was thinking this same thing. Thanks Docs for sharing.
This is great, appreciate it. Would it be helpful to test longer, say 6 hours and 12 hours after?
You guys are the metabolic mirror of me and my wife.
Tres interessant, as usual. I've been IFing for years with usually no problem. One day I was so hungry during fasting time, so I had a cup of warm bone broth. I don't, can't measure ketones, but the next day I had lost 1 lb. Which means nothing. My weight varies for absolutely no tangible reason 1-5 lbs. daily. But the BB did not seems to do me wrong. Good to know, for me, if and when ravenous hunger does hit me during a fast. And the bone broth is VERY hunger-satisfying. My take. Thanks, guys!
Great test! I shall go dry fast then. I am like the bloke!
You had very different number of hours of fasting prior to this test. Is there a chance this would have a influence on the results?
Love the extra Maddie video! ♡ :-)
12 hrs vs 30 think he was more sensitive
If you haven't done this already, please consider doing a video showing BG and Ketone effects of taking supplements (on an empty stomach). Thanks!
Great video, I learned a lot. I’m on day 4 of a fast and plan to break my 9 day fast with Kettle & Fire broth that I just ordered..oh and for what it’s worth, it occurs to me that slowly reheating it on the stove rather than zapping it with micro waves might preserve the benefits…
Very interesting results, I’m a male and was thinking of drinking some bone broth during my 3 day fast I’m currently on, so I will NOT be drinking it, I’m a male thanks
Dr Keith, have you ever done a protein sparing modified fast for a week or more? If so, what were the results? Keep up the good work!
Could you make the same video but with vegetable broth instead? Cook vegetable in water, and drink the water. Dr Berg says we can do that, but I want to know from people experience if it does break a fast or not.
Dr. Becky is so smart and absolutely gorgeous!!!
You like old women with a beat up uterus?🤔
Good grief! You two have great numbers.
Very interesting!!!
Love your videos
In 9 hours I will have reached my first 72 hour fast mark, never went this far. 3 full days without food. Anyway you cut it though, intermittent fasting and low calorie diets is helpful. The whole point of fasting or reduced calorie diets is to lower body fat and get in better shape. I like the idea more of long term calorie reduction and avoiding all the junk in our American diet. Bone broth is amazing if you get used to the taste.
The length of fasting presents a confounder to the data in the findings.
You also did not do a control experiment where water was used to compare your results.
I wonder if warm water triggers an insulin response in him ?
It seems like anything does.
I test my glucose after drinking bone broth with 40 calories per 8 oz. while into a longer fast and my blood sugar rose from low 90's to 117. Ketones dropped. Not good if one is trying to reduce insulin resistance.
I would be interested in seeing a body’s insulin response used for breaking a fast instead of glucose. If the body has an insulin response, your fast is broken no matter what your serum glucose is.
me too im curious
Thank you Dr
Did you ever consider it broke his fast because he had fasted longer?
Thank you!
I wonder if it would make s difference with a homemade bone broth, not packaged.
The man could dilute his with water and see what happens. For people just starting intermittent fasting I think they should use anything that will help them get into the groove for the first 2 weeks. Bone broth, Diet Coke, coffee with a little cream and sweetener. Anything within reason to get use to going without solid food for long periods. Then start modifying and cutting these crutches out. By doing so I think it would relieve some of the pain that goes along with intermittent fasting.
12 hours doesn’t constitute a fast. I’m on day 7.
I wonder if Keith did a workout after if that would have changed those numbers?
Kettle And Fire has 40 calories of coarse it will break your fast. The bone broth I use is only 15 calories it's made by Zoup Fresh Soup Company
how would that affect autophagy. also i bet the guy has insulin resistance which is why even a small amount of nutrients affect his fasting.
I’m thinking this is also because he had a longer fast so the body reacted differently. Thoughts?
So whats the conclusion sir, will bone broth break the intermittent fasting? THANKS
"don't be an ass" omg 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wish Kettle and Fire was more FODMAP friendly. Can't drink things soaked in onion.
Can you please tell ne what kind of tests you used ? I want to try it myself to see my methabolism. Thank you
Perhaps fasting for longer effects it as well x
Please mention how much bone broth you guys drink in this video
Thankyou
Can you run some more tests on stuff like bone broth and coconut oil, ghee and anything else that is a grey area for breaking a fast, and compare them to the same thing BUT WITH ADDED MCT, to see what that does?
Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷 🔆🔆🌈🦜🌈🦜🎊🎉🎊🎉🌴🌴
How do I measure my ketosis and what is a good level of ketosis? I have heard of this, but I have no idea about it.
My observation is it might not be metabolism since it is possible her muscle mass overall might be less insulin resistant. We know that any muscles you do not use frequently become insulin resistant. If one leg is in a cast, it will become insulin resistant. If your body has to produce more insulin for the same caloric intake of food could it not change the outcome? IMHO from a computer geek. No medical background. Thanks for the video, starting to look at your others. I’m interested in visceral fats. I’m currently on my 6th day of a water fast. My test strips show moderate to large ketosis between 4-8.
Does it conclude that Keith who is insulin resistance should avoid bone broth during fasting. People who are not insulin resistance (Becky) can have bone broth during fasting without having an impact on ketosis. Therefore, people with insulin resistance/prediabetic/diabetic on keto diet should avoid bone broth during fasting.
What about the quality of bone broth? Bone broth that is properly gelatinous and not corporate product that is filtered would probably yield different results.
How much BB did you consume? Niehter of the cups in front of you look like 6- 8 ounces- a typical cup
What if Dr K took 1/2 or 1/4 the BB?
But, you fasted for different times x n
You are both so cute as a couple
and I hope you are as happy together as you appear .
Thanks for the info
Here's my question though. You did this right in the morning and your liver is still dumping glycogen in 120 minutes. Is this normal for you? I'd like to see it more in the late afternoon.
So what makes Mr Gillaspy have a difficulty in getting into ketosis in the first place? Is this insulin resistance?
Do you think the difference because of male/ females hormones? I just watched part of a female doctors video talking about women needing to fast/keto/omad differently because of the hormones. Can't be the same during your whole cycle. Might look into that.
Is it better to drink bone broth with a meal?
Thanks. I am doing a 30 days liquid fast and I find that introducing bone broth helps me stay in course. I am not sure if I will lose weight faster without the bone broth however the last time I did a 30days fast, introduced 350ml of bone broth per day ( home made using Turkey bones). I lost 1tkg and uve kept those weight off for 5month. Now I'm ready to lose another 10-15kg and I know that in order to stay in the liquid fast, I need bone broth dur to the savoury taste and feeling if being satiated. Just water or green tea alone and i might quit the fast within a week or 2. So bone broth is a definite plus for me during extended water fast. I don't measure glucose or ketone etc. However I am on a keto diet for the last 2years.
How did it go? Bone broth?
Would you mind addressing Chromium Picolinate and it’s relation to blood sugar and insulin especially in those who are insulin resistant and/or have PCOS.
I’m a white female; age 33; weight 222 (I was at 260, but lost it thru IF); height 5’6” and have normal blood panels. However, I notice that any time I do a fast, I absolutely MUST take 100mg of CP the first 3 days in order for me to sustain my fast. It kills all my cravings and feelings of nausea.
9.0 ketones is barely in ketosis. my point is if you're in ketosis you can't be knocked out.
Intermittent fasting has more benefits than glucose and ketone monitoring.
Does the difference in fasted hours also have an impact?
Cool! What were the levels four and six hours later?
I wonder about autophagy.
I wonder if water soluble fiber will break your fast. for example, if I drink two tsp of psyllium husk with 12oz of water, will it knock me out of my fast? Would love to see you guys try it
I wonder if results would differ for either of you if you did the same fast? 🤔would that make a difference?
