They have dysfunctional childhood that leads into their adult hood. She and many others have suffered at the hands of predatory adults. Over worked, monitored or sexually abused. Its happened to Alison Stoner, Drew Barrymore, Soleil Moon Frye, the Jackson's, River Phoenix , Xtina and Britney Spears etc. They are all so quick to use children as cash cows but not care about what happens when the cameras aren't rolling or they're not performing.

I heard Demi say how she idolized Amy Winehouse and that she wanted to be just like her. I came across a documentary about the last 24 hours of Amy’s life I was freaked out when I realized the date of Amy’s passing was July 23, 2011. It then hit me the date of Demi’s 2018 OD was July 24. I’m so happy Demi came through it . I hopes she coninues her path to happiness
18:43 SO IMPORTANT TO HIGHLIGHT THIS - Dani Vitale telling the bartender to not offer Demi drinks. The same lady who lost career opportunities because some of Demi's fans FALSELY ACCUSED HER FOR CAUSING DEMI'S OVERDOSE.
The fact that she’s made 3 documentaries about her constant struggle and doesn’t try to hide it is something that takes strength, shows that it’s a never ending battle. Hope she gets better
When she smiled so hard and said “I’m always careful” that was disturbing. You really don’t know what is actually haunting people behind their bold smiles.
I felt the exact same way! When I was deep into my addiction I hid so many things so well. I worked full time, took care of my home and family, even helped others get sober! But when I was at my worst I could not for the life of me say certain things because I knew they were lies. That’s whenever I knew I was broken but ready to heal.
I'm 115 days clean off heroin and am so in love with Demi for all of the struggles that she has been through and conquered. So much of what she struggles with mirrors my own life and its incredible to watch her real raw story unfold throughout the years.
Thats why you need to surround yourself with friends who challenge you and want you to grow, dont pick friends that let you make decisions that are self-destructive. I always keep it straight up honest with my friends, even if they dont wanna hear it. And if they got something to say to me , I listen. I imagine its hard to do that when you're a young celebrity
The lady that said "be careful" just knew. She could feel something. And Demi was tearing up. The empathy was real . Demi really needed that, I hope she still thinks about it . Bc I would
@@rogue7723 no for sure especially it being their sister, she knew in her heart she didn’t want Demi to go but she couldn’t stop them Bc they’re grown.
What's crazy is, when I was 12, I had an eating disorder at the time, and I remember watching Demi on Camp Rock saying i wanted to be as skinny as her... when she was going through an eating disorder herself and no one had any idea. This video kind of gave me flashbacks, but also reminded me of how far I've come too.
@r0bz shut up. It’s people like u that are the reason celebrities don’t open up or do stuff like this. Stop being insecure and hiding behind ur screen just to bring down a woman. Her looks are her priorities not urs.
This is true for a lot of addicts, people with eating disorders, and other mental illnesses-- espeically those who have dealt with severe symptoms of their disease(s) for decades, have had many periods of relapses and recovery, and have been in and out of treatment numerous times.
Its hard to replace something so big that your life used to revolve around and was your main priority, the #1 thing you cared about... and then try to rediscover yourself as an adult. Not to mention, in Demi's case, the truth of the matter is that her music/entertainment career isn't nearly successful compared to her peers' (Taylor, Miley, Selena, etc). So her addiction, eating disorder, and mental health struggles are what seems to be most interesting to people and draw the most attention when it comes to her. It's unfortunate but its the reality of the situation. When you say the name "Demi Lovato", the average person probably can't name more than 1 song of hers (if they can even name one at all), but they most likely can tell you shes a drug addict. At this point this is largely out of her control and overcoming it would be a challenge for her, being that she's about to be 30 and has already been in the entertainment industry now for most of her life. It would be hard to reinvent and reignite her career without all this stuff overshadowing it. She can exist and have an identity outside of addiction but can her career exist without it?
It's a reality. Once you're addicted, it's a battle from there your whole life. It's all you know and all you'll be known for..My boyfriend is an addict. He tells everyone how he's sober and proud and eventually starts using again...Addiction will take up you whole life, you go without your crutch and you suffer symptoms. It's not easy getting clean, it's also expensive.
I can't imagine having an entire stadium cheer for your sobriety... having your entire identity tied up in something that is an everyday struggle must have been so heavy on her.
I actually was at the Barclay's Center concert when that happened. Some people are super proud of their sobriety, but looking back, it was clear that she hasn't gotten through all of her issues that made her miserable. And maybe she didn't even know herself that at the moment, maybe she thought sobriety is something that worked for her back then. I really think she learned through quarantine to work on herself cause it forced her to slow down (like what she said in the episodes). In a way, who knows what might have happened again if we weren't in a pandemic and she went straight to touring and working again.
she does have a healthy body. she’s recovering from a long term eating disorder. if you really cared about healthy bodies you’d be glad about her recovery
@Phimosis Jones no, you don’t care about healthy bodies. It seems like you only care about skinny bodies and insult and bully people who don’t fit that ‘ideal body’ in your mind. They’re not the same in the slightest lmfao
Those costume sketches are truly heartbreaking and these kind of things are imposed to us in such a way that we have accepted them for years without noticing how toxic it is
i am not joking when i say it legitimately made me jump when they edited her body to fit the sketch. it’s SO damaging, and we just accept that those kinds of sketches are normal. they aren’t. they’re horrific.
Agreed. I believe in fashion those are called croquis, and what's even more ridiculous is that that's not even what the outfit would look like on your standard/stereotype size 0 model. They have a lot of body issues too. It's just so not healthy.
I haven't watched it yet and I'm already speechless, no matter if you're a fan or not, you'll want to watch this documentary and I'm sure you'll cry like a baby
@r0bz I've seen you in like 10 comments. if you don't care, then stop watching. is it really THAT necessary to be spreading hate and insults? and no, don't say your spreading the "truth" because every individual on this planet is beautiful on the outside. what matters is if they are beautiful on the inside.
@@barbienagar3936 ignore him. People like him will keep going no matter what others say... he doesn‘t have a LITTLE bit of empathy. Other than us. Ignore him girl😊❣️
It was her mom who put her in the cameras at a young age. She was placed in beauty pagents by her parents (mainly her mom). NO child should ever live in the spotlight.
It honestly hurts me to hear that she just didn’t like the way the outfits looked on her bc on sketch the drawing was taller and “thinner”. Yet I’m here looking at her concerts saying wow she’s gorgeous, the way her outfits fit would never fit me like it does her, it’s gorgeous but in her mind she was thinking differently.
Exactly !! I met her in 2014 and all I could think was she was so beautiful , like a doll . I saw her red dress she wore to the Grammys and all I could think was this thing is so tiny I don’t understand how people called her “ fat “ . And that was the dress she wore when she was finally confident .
Isnt it awful and so sad that she felt that way about herself? We just never really know what internal pain people are in. She's just a human being at heart. She is a performer as a profession. They are hunted like an animal by vultures waiting to see them fall and capture it , sell it, and do it again and again when it chips away at those they are hunting souls. Those VULTURES can do better they NEED to do better. Brittany same thing its a miracle she came back out of the dark also.
They really need to stop sketching fashion drawings that way. No human being looks like that. Just draw her body and how the clothes would actually look on her. That would at least be useful when it came to choosing her wardrobe. Plus she's gorgeous. There's no need to draw her with 8' legs.
It’s a different kind of sadness when you see every single of your childhood idols go through this kind of situation. We LOVE YOU Demi, and Britney, and Miley and every single star that’s having a hard time overcoming everything the industry made you suffer.
I relate so much when she talked about her dads death. My dad also passed away alone in his apartment, my brother found him and we don’t know when he died. His hands were black. He was a alcoholic. If you’re reading this please get help you deserve more.
People don’t realize how much courage it takes to keep fighting after a lifetime of struggle. No amount of money or fame changes the effects of mental illness and trauma. The fact that she has to fight through all of this in front of the whole world is so scary and just proves how strong she is. After 6 years of sobriety, she relapsed and that must’ve been so hard for her to accept. But the fact that she lived to tell her story proves just how much of a fighter she is and that she belongs in this world. I would not be alive without Demi. She has a kind heart and tells the truth regardless of how harsh it is to hear. The whole world was making fun of her for the past 3-4 years and yet she still has the passion to create with the purpose of inspiring others to be open about their struggles. Most people would crumble under such scrutiny and pressure, but Demi truly cares about what she believes and that’s why she’s been able to make it through.
I remember when she sought treatment after camp rock and everyone talking about how she's just "crazy" and that was an accepted narrative back then. Now it just makes my heart hurt that she was ever talked about in that way when she was obviously hurting. Some people don't see it, but I think our culture has come a long way in the last few years.
money has a significant impact on the effects of mental illness. money allows people to seek treatment and funds things like medication, therapy, and even rehab. without money it is damn near impossible to treat mental illness because even with insurance it all costs money and not everyone can even afford that.
Ehhh money does help though 😆😆 I've had depression since I was 13 now 32. Having a couple mil would definitely put a smile on my face. Not worrying if another couple mil is coming in..Sh*t, even be able to help a few people out in the process. Double feel goods there, ya know ?
demi needs to leave hollywood. I feel so uncomfortable with how her team continues to capitalize on this stuff and not really help her. to be so specificalyl timed with singles, albums, movies, etc....I remember when she had a relapse before her brush with death, they released a single where she admitted to the relapse...and I was just stunned and disgusted. I don't want any of this for her, I love her and want her to leave hollywood.
It amazes me how much her fans care so much about her. I remember watching sober live where Demi said “F*** I forgot the words” which the next line was “I’m sorry that I’m here again i promise I’ll get help” and everyone quickly said “omg Demi didn’t forget and she’s not gonna get help she’s not okay” to find out the next day she overdosed! I swear the connection her fans have with her is so heart touching.
Her best friend said at 12:45, "I think if your life is set up to be focused on how you're not well, then you're not gonna feel well." I can speak from experience, this is absolutely true. I was struggling in the last year from things that have been happening in my personal life, and at a certain point, it was like everyone around me was only focused on "well you're struggling and having a hard time and you've been through so much. Its been so difficult for you." And sometimes you just need to have people stop talking about your problems and your struggles, and simply encourage you to get better and to be better and to live free of self-judgement. People will feel small if you tell them they've been living it so hard. They will rise and stand tall if you tell them that they are ready for new things.
very regrets to not seen this comment befor , just exposed something in your life then everyone around you will focus on it and asking ànd waiting update.. then you will be stunned on the way it flick the life the whole thing from you😢
I always thought that her eyes and mouth don't seem to be in sync often, she does this big smile with her mouth while her eyes remain sad. I really hope she will find the strength in herself to overcome these traumas and find peace and freedom in reality.

I REALLY hope that this documentary was her idea, her initiative and is under her control. Not her team’s, not her family’s. If that’s how she wants to tell her story - so be it. But I don’t want her trauma to get exploited for money again. I really want her to get better and to take some time off.
I doubt so. These celebrity documentaries are starting to trend. Someone is profiting from them, celebrities sharing their messed up lives and getting paid for it.
The way they all just clap and cheer after she finishes singing Sober for them... it turns my stomach. Like did no one listen to the lyrics and think to ask about it???
@@craigime they did not pay to see that, we're talking about the scene where she introduces the song to her friends, NOT the scene shes playing to an audience lol
I was at this concert front row and you are 100% correct. She knew that she was lying to herself and every Lovatic in the crowd could feel it. So glad she is finally happy and healthy in her truest form.
Shes so strong and brave for showcasing her story to the world. She has always been such an inspiration to me and to many people all over the world. So excited to watch this docu series 🥲🥺
I just feel like her whole team and family keep exploiting this image of her being a survivor and a warrior, using it to sell any kind of content, and it ends up pressuring her so much. It almost seems like it’s an endless circle. This woman needs some time off the spotlight
I honestly feel the same way ever since her first interview about the situation. I don't think her family does that but her team definintely does do that to her. They put too much pressure on her to be perfect and this role model. As her sister said, she never signed up for that. She only signed up to get better and spread awareness to eradicate the stigma. Not for her company to make profit off of her and her trauma.
@@priyanshasharma3599 Her support system should be considering her health before her professional life. If there is too much pressure on her she will relapse. 👩🔬
@@heatherdequetteville9184 It's honestly crazy to see how mean people are to her saying that she keeps making money off of her struggles and never holds herself accountable and how we have idolized such people and would not care if someone else was going through this on the street but here's the thing. A lot of people don't have an understanding of addiction and trauma. It's an achievement that she managed to make it to six years of sobriety but it was too much control from her team that made her want to relapse other than things that would trigger her such as the body type of the model that the styling team would make for her outfits. By her last documentary she had clearly shown that she had relapsed into her ED. Relapsing is okay and it doesn't mean that she's a failure. She always wanted to show her imperfections and making money from her issues wasn't her brand, it was her honesty and upfrontness about it. She's explained so much and has been so brave to showcase her humanity and even tell us that she was raped. TWICE. She took responsibility for her actions, called out her fans for hating on and falsely accusing her friend. That's doesn't exactly fit the definition of evil to the core as the haters say.
@@priyanshasharma3599 Spot on. Anyone struggling with addiction needs to remove themselves from the situations that trigger a relapse. For her it might be her profession, family dysfunction, the friends who are enabling. Even the environment she lives in. She does,nt need to see herself in the tabloid press. I,d recommend a programme that Is openended. She could stay for an extended period until she has the confidence to leave.
That’s not the point though. Help yourself instead of relying on a celebrity to inspire you too. Isn’t that what led to Demi’s relapse in the first place? Being this perfect poster child for sobriety?

I worry this documentary series is just like the last one: a buffer until something happens again. I don’t want anything to happen to Demi. She needs to leave Hollywood.
I remember watching her performance on July 22 (my birthday) and just crying over “Sober”. Then two days later she overdosed and it broke my heart knowing that, that song was like a cry for help. I’m glad that two years later she is alive and is able to tell her story to millions of people❤️
She seems lonely. She always wants someone to stay with her. I see such a sadness in her. I hope she gets the help she needs and find what ever happiness it is she’s searching for. You’re a strong person Demi. Love yourself. Be happy. You are so loved.
I know many people talk bad about the quarantine, but quarantine helped me to combat a depression I was stuck in for six years. And now a year and two months later, I am nothing like what I used to be when depressed. Being alone is important. Being alone with your thoughts, helped me to pinpoint the thinking process that caused the depression. I was able to stop the negative self-talk, and in essence, replace it with positive uplifting thinking, and now I am able to wake up every day happy, free, and on purpose. Bravo Demi for talking about being in solitude to face your problems, so many look for external solutions to solve internal problems. That point is pivotal.
I’m so happy to hear that you got over your depression! I don’t even know you but I feel so proud. I know how hard it is, I h one your proud of yourself. It’s so hard to love yourself, just know that you’re worthy of it. Hope u have an amazing day or night, remember to take care of yourself (and that goes for everyone reading this too

I'm literally in tears because I lost my dad to a drug overdose and almost lost my partner the exact same way. Heart attack, oxygen levels, stroke all of that. 😢 I feel so bad for anyone struggling with the demons of any type of addiction especially drugs. 🙏🏽 Praying for everyone.
I’m so sorry. Addiction is so difficult on everyone. I hope your partner is doing alright and getting help. Getting help can be a struggle in itself between waitlists and costs.
They knew she was drinking at that point. They didn’t think it was about drugs. She was starting to drink here and there. I think they were just trying to be supportive as well, she was being honest with that song.
She has had so many close calls and has been so close to death multiple times, I hope that she doesn’t become immune to the fear of dying and desensitized to the possibility of ODing because she has cheated death before.
So true..... I've been in almost the exact situation as her... and after the first "near death" experience, I almost DID become desensitized to the possibility of dying. For me it was sepsis, endocarditis, double pneumonia, multi-organ system failure... the whole 9 yards. Having to watch this in pieces because it's almost too much for me at once. Too close to home.

No one really knows who Demi is, not even her closest friends or family members. She only lets them see what she wants them to see. She's afraid that if anyone really knew the intensity of the darkness and demons in her, they'd run off. Her facade is a defense mechanism against abandonment and loneliness. @@ginandromeda1618 don’t know what Anne Marrie is referencing to, to be honest. But Amy was addicted to drugs. Her friends were trying to convince her to go to rehab, but her dad was like “no, she is fine”. So Amy didn’t go. Some people think this was a deciding factor in Amy her life. Maybe if she went to rehab that day, she would’ve gotten sober. Amy wrote a song about this rehab conversation. You can look up the lyrics. It’s kinda a cry for help. She literally sings “I don’t ever want to drink again, I just need a friend”. It’s extremely sad but everyone was just enjoying the song like it was something funny and catchy. Amy passed away later probably because of overdose. It’s awful. In all her songs she was mentioning her pain and troubles with life, but still somehow people were oblivious to it, until she actually died. I see it too, her mom seems very infatuated with her own looks, and not necessarily the drug use but I'm sure her mom contributed to her mental health and body image decline. I think she got lost in the business aspect during the younger years on Disney Channel and forgot about demis developing mindset.

I feel like part of Demi's problem is her parents. Her mother was also an addict. Addiction runs in the family. Clearly her mother also wanted to push her into the limelight.
her father was violent and an alcoholic and her mom got addicted to Xanax (she even went to rehab after Demi went) so it's literally no wonder the way Demi turned out

Demi this literally hit me in the gut with the similarities in the way we grew up. My father was schizophrenic and a h*rion addict. He beat my mom also. We moved away from him and I stopped talking to him in 2010. He died in 2016 by his addiction. He was found in his room. I have been fighting to stay away from his path, but at 16 I was binge drinking. At 17 I had a horrible adderall addiction. I lost 78lbs in 3 months. At 18 I went back to my childhood home and started focusing on my mental health. Stay strong hun 💖 you’re not alone.
You were always a human being first, Demi. Before everything. Before becoming a child star. Before becoming an award-winning artist. Before addiction. You are human. FIRST. Everyone should understand that. We love you, Demi. 💜

So when can our society admit that idolized child stars have desperate, broken and dysfunctional adult lives?
They have dysfunctional childhood that leads into their adult hood. She and many others have suffered at the hands of predatory adults. Over worked, monitored or sexually abused. Its happened to Alison Stoner, Drew Barrymore, Soleil Moon Frye, the Jackson's, River Phoenix , Xtina and Britney Spears etc. They are all so quick to use children as cash cows but not care about what happens when the cameras aren't rolling or they're not performing.

It’s almost like her life and identity has been defined by addiction and she isn’t quite sure how to exist without it
This is true for a lot of addicts, people with eating disorders, and other mental illnesses-- espeically those who have dealt with severe symptoms of their disease(s) for decades, have had many periods of relapses and recovery, and have been in and out of treatment numerous times.
She can exist and have an identity outside of addiction but can her career exist without it?
wowowo
Some people have to define thier life around addiction to prevent relapse. And if it keeps them clean then it’s not a big deal.

Most people would crumble under such scrutiny and pressure, but Demi truly cares about what she believes and that’s why she’s been able to make it through.

money has a significant impact on the effects of mental illness. money allows people to seek treatment and funds things like medication, therapy, and even rehab. without money it is damn near impossible to treat mental illness because even with insurance it all costs money and not everyone can even afford that.

" *I've been working on trying to be free since the last 13 years* "* hits hard💔

Quarantine took 3 peoples lives, that I loved deeply. I’ll never be the same again

When she mentioned at what point she wrote sober it sounded so eerily familiar to Amy Winehouse when she wrote rehab
I'm too young to know that, sorry, how did that happened? How Amy wrote Rehab?
Like how is it possible that such an admired singer can be so troubled and lonely at the same time. And how can she slip away like that when everyone knows what is up. Being famous is hard. Demi's mom blaming the dad saying Demi was there for some of the abuse...she needs to fully take responsibility for the damage SHE also caused to Demi. I know it's been brought up before but I wish or hope she opens up about this as well. Yes Demi was damaged by her father, but her mom also had so many issues that greatly negatively impacted Demi.
I see it too, her mom seems very infatuated with her own looks, and not necessarily the drug use but I'm sure her mom contributed to her mental health and body image decline. I think she got lost in the business aspect during the younger years on Disney Channel and forgot about demis developing mindset.
7:26 did her mom not admit to her own drug use? how it compared and probably affected demi? did she not admit to not realizing sooner that demi needed help with the trauma from witnessing abuse at a young age? she didn’t make demi’s father out to be the only person to blame, she may not have formally apologized but she was able to see to her fault of not recognizing her mistake. no one knows what her and demi’s relationship was like at the start of demi’s of stardom and shouldn’t be jumping to conclusion on wether or not she’s to place all the blame for everything that has happened to demi on.

Knowing this whole story and rewatching it, Demis mom, you never tried. You knew. You dont deserve her in your life!
“I’m on my ninth life” Demi, oh I am so thankful that you are still here. You have saved me. You’ve saved me far far too many times. I am beyond thankful for you. I am so glad you are still here. I know you’ve saved many peoples lives too
she’s one of the strongest women in the industry

I am completely amazed how Demi has the courage to tell her unfortunate story to the world. Demi is doing the world a favor by revealing first-hand how tough and hard addictions are.
She isn't telling anybody anything new lol. People are well aware that addictions exist. I don't see how it's amazing that she is profiting off it. You must be easily impressed, go tell a homeless crackhead how brave they are lmaooooo
@@gamerjamson I don't think you understand how much strength it takes to come back from where she was. You're ignorant, and no one cares to hear your opinion.
Imagine being an "artist" and rather than your work, having to rely on your controversial, personal life to stay relevant.
After just losing my sister on February 25th to drugs this speaks to my soul I completely understand but when a family member is addicted to drugs your whole family suffers.

I am so sorry and it was birthday
I’m so sorry for your loss. Your sister is in this amazing place now. A place where there’s only peace and love. She isn’t suffering anymore. And she’ll always be with you 💜
@@katd8051 it just hurts so much before she went onto life support the last thing she said was" save me". We couldn't it was to late.
