That red light means stage 1 LVC, so it was a voltage cutoff. Idk what the cutoff value on that ESC is, but the batteries must have sagged below it. Maybe try again with different batteries?
I'm running mine on a max6 with speed gearing. The whole system actually runs cooler now. I was hitting 170 to 180 degrees on the motor with speed gearing and stock esc. Now it's down to 150ish with the max6. This is after a full pack run and driving the crap out of it. I will note that it's much colder here in Indiana than Florida. So take this with a grain of salt.
@TEKonTECH well after a year of messing around with the max6 and stock motor, I switched to a max5 1100kv combo. Definitely a totally different truck with that system.
I live right across the street from the Traxxas headquarters in McKinney, Tx. The number one thing people have an overwhelming complaint about are the horrible ESC's!
Trying to understand...you ran stock 20/50 pinion/spur and got 47.6 mph. you changed to 23/46 and it got you 51.7mph but a red light of sorts. Then you went 20/46 and got 48.9 mph. So I could just stay stock 20/50 if the XRT is only getting sub 50 mph? Especially since 48.9 is only +1.3 more than 47.6 mph.
Try changing the ESC, Joe. I think your esc might be faulty. Try replacing the esc THEN gear down. She might be a different animal with a different esc. Thunder RC changed out the crappy traxxas Esc for a Max and his XRT is an outrageous machine. Bash On, Brother!👍👍 Thanks for the testing of the gears. Sorry that the soccer-moms and dads don't clean up after their snot-gobblers. What a show of no respect. And they are the same people that complain about "others" "trashing" the environment and people like us(rc users) putting "Ruts" in "their" fields. lol🤪💯💥❤ Such a fluffy, cool earthquake. Sam seems so chill. He just looks at the camera like: "what's up, guys?"👍👍😻
Interesting results, I thought it would go faster as well. I haven't checked mine yet, it started a loud clicking noise before I could get a full first run on it. Still not exactly sure what happened just yet...
The stock ESC just can't take the speed gearing. 20/50 is already pushing the stock ESC to its maximum limit. You would probably need a Max 6 or MMX8S for the speed gearing. The stock motor would probably need much better fans too. I'm going to stick to stock gearing, MMX8S, bigger tires and stock motor. I don't want to go crazy with upgrades on my XRT. For me personally, 47mph is enough for bashing, backflips and running around. Once I start going 50+ MPH, my batteries, and motor start getting way too hot. At least for me. Long time term success is my goal. Thanks for the video 👍👍👍
Yes sir! don't bach that $1k rig to hell that super crazy🤔 then buy more parts /upgrades to replace the broken parts ( now the rig is plus $1.5k)wow not smart to me enjoy the hobby while having some fun!
Surprised you didn't break your steering bellcrank with a few of those bad landings. RichDuperbash seems to break that a lot on his... then again, the air he gets with his is pretty insane.
First let me say I'm only offering a thought or suggestion. I don't think I know more than you or nearly as much as you about RC's and the way they work. What I'd like to say is a friend of mine who also has an xrt said when he first tried the speed gears he also got the Lvc light very quickly, however like you batteries were still around 80% what he discovered was when reinstalling the motor he hadn't gotten it perfectly flush on the pins which caused the esc to sense some problem and shut down. If you go back and listen you can clearly hear the difference between the two pinion gears.
That makes a lot of sense. I mentioned it sounded different as well. But I’m happy with it on 20/46 for now but I’ve got this done and it’s time for more power. Soon it will get that power. LoL. I appreciate your comment.
Hi James, I took the stock ESC out of my new XRT a couple days ago. It’s never even had a battery hooked up to it, just trying to help if you’re interested.
Also upgrade your fans on your ESC and your motor the ESC fan is a 35mm Protec fan it's way better than the stock one. I do not know what the motor fans are but take a dial Caliper to the motor fans and buy the equivalent ProTech.
Yea man. Always enjoy waking up to your videos. That was wierd how it was cutting out though. Probably the esc traxxas is saftey 1st lol maybe to good of packs too many amps idk. Or they sagged too low Just a guess. Thanks again. Joe!
Wow Sam is beautiful.... Yes really enjoyed the run on this vid a few heavy hits as well. But she held up. And yeah I like my rc's just a little faster..... 55 / 58 ish tends to be nice, but then I'm thinking the XRT is a big RC. So in and around 50 mph is probably fast enough and you looked like you'd great fun just in that clay dirt stuff which is plenty. Great vid bro and big Sam was a bonus. ... Cool 🐱
lol that bike going past came at the right moment when the xrt went past sounded like a good engine in the xrt lol, but that xrt can rip good though, random Q xrt or xmax :)
I think 50:40 or so. isn't that a "little" too much, just a little😍 😗😥? Most likely, the electrical controller has stalled due to internal software settings, or the batteries are a bit tired. I have been dependent on Rc since the beginning of 2000, once I indicate, no matter what kind of batteries, always discharge and charge at least once before each ride. This is important in high-current applications. I would go with 28:50 or 30:50, because 40:50, that's almost 1:1, that is too much!! Thanks for Video
I honestly not a fan of Traxxas electronics. Everything I’ve ever driven from them overheats. My slash in the winter over heats on stock gears and has since it was new. Never been able to run a 3s Traxxas battery until dead in the summer with ouch hitting thermal.
I’m buying the XLX2 combo, should I go with 800kv or 1100 I’m not a speed runner, I just want power to bash and what what pinion/spur tooth count would be a good starting point?
Thanks for the honest assessment, we thank u. I agree for the price the XRT is lacking, I've seen esc issues from a lot of people including myself, it's just unacceptable at this price. It's not all bad, but it's enough.
The soccer 'groups' here, where we fly, get together & absolutely trash the field. During the past, WE policed the complete area b4 we flew. That ended in August. They don't care, y should we🤷♂️? WE don't take off/land over there.
its just slow . im taking my 1/5 kraton and gonna weld up a tube chassis . that way theres no more bending even though i havent bent mine . i only have a max6 combo with a smc hcl-hp 11.1 11300 150c lipo , dc motors dc35wds ($30 ) 486lbs 35kg at 7.4v servo , robinson racing gears 17T & 23T Pinion , 3.8 mud slingers on truggy rims . its plenty fast enuff for my space . im gonna start building the tube chassis next week . i ordered 1/4 alum tubing 20 feet to start with.

Been eyeing the Max6 combo for a setup that can't get through one 6s pack without thermal shutdown 👀 #mt8

My outcast 4s v2 did a cut like that when I geared up 2t on the pinion .

Yeah those changes are on the way.
20/46 sounds good. say what battiers are those, my Lectron Pro 7600 4s hard case packs are to big. Thanks for the Entertainment and happy Holidays!
Gonna head and swap the ESC to a Max 6 brother. That's what your supposed to use lol. Get rid of it and enjoy the true power of the XRT 🤟
Haha love the earthquake. Sam looks like a cool cat
LoL
Interesting you say that the xmaxx stock gearing gets 30 something miles I’ve seen 42-45 varying.
Interesting results, I thought it would go faster as well. I haven't checked mine yet, it started a loud clicking noise before I could get a full first run on it. Still not exactly sure what happened just yet...
Yeah. Not what I expected at all

I wish they did a revamp of the 6s xmaxx motor to handle 8s
Traxxas electronics are kinda unreliable at times but I still luv’um!
Extra thumbs up for Sam.
Surprised you didn't break your steering bellcrank with a few of those bad landings. RichDuperbash seems to break that a lot on his... then again, the air he gets with his is pretty insane.
Awesome video, thanks.
HI SAM!😺
Cool video. That truck is a beast. Earthquake would be a cool name for your cat. He's a biggin.
LOL He's just big boned LOL
you so you put in the included gears and it cant even handle them? 23:35 i dont get what your "doing that your not suppose to be doing".

@@ExocagedRC Well awesome, everything is more fun and better with more power.👍👍 I will definitely be watching.
Wow the ESC can “feel” mechanical flaws? Too much physical resistance.
Do you have a battery charger that analyzes deep? Like a old Hyperian?
Traxxas uses 30c batteries, unless this newer truck is different.
Before you burn up that ESC how about selling it to me because I need to replace mine, my factory one fried
When I get the website up I will sell the take out esc’s and radios and stuff.
Hi James, I took the stock ESC out of my new XRT a couple days ago. It’s never even had a battery hooked up to it, just trying to help if you’re interested.
Max4 into XRT please 😊
possible

Wow that is a nice truck….design.
..Looks like you need a hobbywing...Max 5 or 6,at least...
Big 'ol orange tabby = SUBSCRIBED 😸🔔

Great stuff!
Nothing wrong with the batteries 😊

You could use a few yards of that dirt in your sand box .
Man I’d love to mix some of that clay into the track.
Great video bud good run mate 👍👏
Silly cool 😎 dig the. Content bro
Does he eat Lasagna? Lol
It's the esc that's cutting. Needs an esc upgrade
just leave the speed runs to phil jolly and that rc nuts guy or whatever his name is imo :P
May not have been the best speed run vid but it was one hell of a durability vid 😁😆
😂😂
It's those batteries..
I was thinking about getting one but by the looks of it my gas cars will tare this XRT a new one! So Im gonna pass and stick with gas! ⛽️⛽️⛽️⛽️
Great vid....XRT is awesome 💯
😍love your cat
this video should have been a youtube short!
I need to learn how to make those.
i want one

Awww Sam is lovely 😍😁
I really figured it would have done a lot better for speed
Beautiful cat, I like cats. Good run also. thanks.

WE don't take off/land over there.
Put in a max6 instead of that traxxas crap.
My drag slash does it all the time stock or not. Very disappointing
47mph Impressive? Doesn't the box say 50? 😄
Box says 60+ 😂 I’m disappointed and haven’t got mine in the mail yet
They probably just round up and it’s all for advertising to get you to buy it. Lol
😁👍
Rip that traxxas esc out and put in a real esc
Hey I know that spot.
Top 👍🏻

You’re 15tt from blacktop and you do high speed runs on the grass. Smh
Garfield 🥰😺
