    What about using buttercream, American buttercream? Step by step? How long do I need to wait for each tier to dry for my to stack them? I'm doing my first one for a bridal show. 1/8/22

    Do you put anything on the dummy cake before frosting with regular buttercream? Does it have to be crusting?

  • @Xosweetmia
    @Xosweetmia 2 года назад

    So many questions. How did you stack the cake? Did you do it before traveling with the cake or at the venue? How stable is the cake on the cake dummy? I’m afraid it may slide if the butter begins to soften.

    I had this in my head for my wedding glad I'm not crazy this is possible as it will only be 30 people but I want a 3 tier but not too much cake.. Thank you for this. I'm baking my own cake I'm a baker 15 years I sound crazy but I want to bake my own😬

      So happy this concept will work for your wedding. Baking your own cake is a little hairy but you can do most of it way in advance using this method! Congratulations by the way:)))!!!

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  7 лет назад +1

      sunil swaroop yes! However it will not be ideal if the previous icing/fondant had any colour. The colour tends to absorb into the styrofoam. Thanks for watching!!:)

    • @DanielleFoley

      nithya gopi no dowels needed if you’re only putting a top tier. If more than one real cake then yes support each cake with dowels. Thanks for watching!!!:)

    So do you have kitchen cakes in the back to serve the guests?

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  7 лет назад +1

      Yes Lea, you would have the sheet cake in the venue kitchen to serve for dessert.

  • @twochickstravelagency

    Do you still use dowel rods to secure since the bottom tiers aren't real?

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Cassandra, I simply use Royal icing to secure each dummy. If the cake is for display I use hot glue. Thanks for watching!!:)

    Do you use this swiss meringue on a dummy cake? how long will it hold up? would it be bett4r for me to put royal icing on it first. .. also can this swiss meringue be used on a dummy cake for a mirror glazed cake/ have you ever done one. thank you marg

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  7 лет назад

      ceelyon rose Hi:) You can use Swiss Meringue but... make sure it is cool in your kitchen, during transport as well as at the venue. No need for using the Royal Icing. Thanks for watching!

    hi..how can we keep these dummies for months? what should we add to the fondent to make it nonmelting?

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  7 лет назад +1

      Keep the dummies in a dark, dry, cool place and cover with plastic if you have many details that might catch dust in the fondant decorations. As far as not having the fondant melt I have never had this problem once the fondant becomes dry.

    Hello, what is the difference in price dummy cake vs real cake?

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  7 лет назад

      Not much difference in price as the cake still needs the time for decoration but where you do gain is in the size of the cake. You can create a real show stopper using this technique!:)

    • @qasimzaffar5881
      @qasimzaffar5881 7 лет назад +1

      Mari Diaz Out of curiousity, if there isn't much of a price difference between cake and styrofo, why wouldn't anyone go for actual cake?

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  7 лет назад +1

      Sometimes the venue provides a dessert table included in the price of the meal and the Bride and Groom really want to have a traditional cake. I've made many like this with just the top tier being real cake or the sake of cutting and photos. It is usually a simpler cake to keep the costs down.

    I have a question, do u charge for the dummy cake as it was a real cake or do u charge lot less?? Thank you!!

    • @DanielleFoley
      @DanielleFoley  4 года назад +5

      Hi Griselle- You charge less. Factor in your material costs, time to get the materials, time to cover the cake(s) and then add mark up and stay below what you charge for real cake. It still takes time and costs to produce. What your customer is getting is grandeur without all the extra cake and paying slightly less. It is a great option for a customer that wants the cake to be the showpiece of the event. Does this help?
