Love the “dummy grabber”. Thanks for the tip!
Wow! I am so glad I came across your channel. Thanks so much for sharing.
Wow this is really helpful. Thank you so much for this demo
Thank you! Very well done and helpful!
Great tutorial and short and simple 'dummy grabber' for the name of your gadget 👏🏻
Thank you! And love the name too! 😁
Great job!
Amazing tutorial and great sharing
You were a life saver tonight. I found a hardboard thin cake board and followed your instructions. I also covered the cake dummy with Trex, so much easier to work with. Covered the 8” diameter x 5” tall like a dream compared with challenges I faced when icing a 4” diameter x 4” tall cake tier earlier today, that was a nightmare! I’m going to make a few more boards in different sizes for future use. Thank you so much for sharing 😇
Oh, what brilliant news! I’m so pleased that it was useful… ☺️
Great DIY tip ! Especially if you want to re-use the board for another dummy cake.Or use the upside down covering method. Evil Cake Genius has a cake grip tool for dummies. I just hot glue my dummy to the board as most of my cake dummies will be on display for a fair amount of time .
Hi Rob, you could call this the dum-drum! It’s a great idea !! Thanks for sharing ;)
Love it! 😁
Great video. Thanks for the tips. I am making my first dummy cake this month, so this information is very helpfull!
Thanks for watching! ☺️
You are amazing 🤩 I would love to be able to have one of your wonderful amazing dummy cakes as I'm unable to afford one for my wedding due to personal reasons , I'm a huge fan of yours 🤩
Thank you for all theses informations. Very usefull 😊
Thanks for watching - I’m so pleased you found it helpful... ☺️
awesome video! as for your gadget, may I suggest you call it "dummy cake holder" 😉
Weighted round! That’s what I would call it!
Thank you. I just bought the dummy cakes and was a bit intimidated as to what to do. Perfect!!
Call it what it is, a dummy cake holder. Great tutorial.
Thanks for watching. 😊
How about Cake Anchor platform? Thanks for a fun and informative video.
Another fab video. I wonder do you have any tips for avoiding air bubbles. They really are my nemesis. I cover my cakes exactly the same way as you have here and get on grand. Then those perky air bubbles appear. SOS Please help ❤
Omg that's so good. Can you HELP I'm trying to cover my dummy cake but I keep getting dents in my fondant and it looks horrible and not flush. How can I make it like yours. Thanks ❤
Hi, I live on a small Mediterranean island where no poly dummy cake shapes are available. Can I cover a homemade cardboard round with fondant or would sparkling be easier? It's only for a photo shoot
Thanks for your tuto, brief and clear
Please tell me, is it safe to make the bottom tier of a 4tier cake dummy (the 3 others real cake) ? Is it sturdy enough ? Thank you so much
Yes, absolutely. A polystyrene dummy is strong enough to support three tiers of real cake, without any need for dowels. x
How long can the cake sit out with the fondant on it?
'Dummy board' works for me.
😊
Can fondant work
lovely tutorial thank you! Could I cover a dummy cake with chocolate ganache?
Absolutely! You’ll definitely need something like this to hold it steady though.
Thank you very much! I have made one of your gadgets, and named it cake spike board😅😃😃… and it works beautifully!
If using buttercream to cover the cake should you also cover with vegetable shortening first?
No😇
If I need this for March, could I make it in January and it still look good?
As long as you keep in a cardboard cake box to keep it out of direct sunlight and to prevent it getting dusty, it will be absolutely fine. ☺️
Can you use Stork margarine to stick the fondant or does it need to be Trex?
Margarine goes bad, whereas Trex doesn’t really, so I probably wouldn’t risk it… 🤔
Surely it would be a lot easier and quicker to use some kind of double sided tape such as foam tape.
Will it slide off in high temperature environment due to the butter?
It shouldn’t do. ❤️
How to do you cover a square dummy
I call my my one Vlad the Impaler. Lol
Where can I purchase the large cake smoother?
The clear one? It’s the Sharp Edge Smoother: www.cakesbycarol.org.uk/product/sharp-edge-smoother-acrylic-cake-smoother/
how long does the fondant/shortening last before it spoils?
Fondant/sugarpaste doesn’t really spoil because sugar is a preservative, but you wouldn’t want to eat it after it has been sat out collecting dust for a while… 😳
@@MrBakersCakeSchool well not to eat, but to reuse without reapplying a base coat of fondant. I’m planning to use it for cake photography.
As long as you keep it clean and dust free, it’ll last indefinitely. xx
Really helpful thanks Rob, gives me confidence to try covering a polystyrene dummy. I suggest naming your invention the 'polygrip' or 'polygrab''. Looking forward to part deux this week, (hopefully please without the distracting music, makes it harder to hear you ...) xx
I have a vague feeling that Polygrip is already a product used to hold dentures in one’s mouth... 🤔😂
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll have a think about the music. I feel it needs something for the bits where I speed things up and drop the sound, but maybe there is a way I can mute it when I am speaking without it sounding too choppy (which is an issue I’ve had in the past)... x
can you mix paint color to it
How do you mean? Add colour to the fondant or paint on the covered cake?
Oh dear, looks like Prop Options beat you to it Rob!!

Well how’s about THAT for timing?!! 😂
