Solid review, John. I think the fact that Father Karras doesn't believe she's possessed until the end of the film is what makes it so great and realistic, as it appeals to the sceptic in us. Also, I believe the Blu-ray you have doesn't have all the features the upcoming steelbook has, as the Blu-ray came out before the 40th anniversary edition. This is part of the reason I've preordered the special edition. Not going to lie, though, I have been tempted to buy the standard 4K 😂

A huge thank you John for the shout out and I would love to hear your thoughts on that Sleepy Hollow release. I stand by what I said in my video I think it's the best 4K transfer I've seen this year even though I haven't seen the Exorcist yet. I have to admit I really enjoyed your screenshots because you can clearly see the difference in colour and you can also make out a lot of those black levels as well. The big draw for me is going to be the Dolby Atmos soundtrack because the movie always look beautiful. A huge thank you for sharing your thoughts on it
I popped into HMV today looking forward to picking this up and they didn't have it, no pos and no sign of it. Good job I had another reason for going to town. Just checked hmv online and they have preorders of the special edition back in stock so bit the bullet and preordered it.
I’ve heard a lot of great stuff about this 4K so I’ll definitely buy it but I’m instead going to wait for the ultimate collectors edition steelbook set from hmv when it comes out next month. Also if you haven’t heard the replacement discs for house on the edge of the park are being sent out at the end of this month. Another excellent video ! 👍🏻
Brilliant. I bought HOTEOTP a month or so ago and totally forgot about the issues when I bought it so requested my replacement immediately. Haven't played it yet so would have no idea what the issues are. I bought Henry at the same time but am assuming the release I have has already been fixed.

Got deluxe version of this on order - still waiting for it to arrive. First time owning this on physical media for myself and have only seen this film once, many years ago - I remember this movie as chillingly scary so looking forward to watching it again with fresh eyes on 4k. Great video John, love the comparison shots - the scene with Linda Blair with toy bird and paint pots - did you notice that in the blu-ray the bird and left hand paint pot is orange but in 4k it is vibrant red? 🧐🧐
Great review John. I appreciate the comparisons are from your phone, but for me the colour saturation on the 4K is way too much, in some cases it just looks false. I thought the blu ray was excellent but I’m going to try the 4K anyway.
Thanks Whitey, remember the colours in photos gave some added HDR from my phone so it's less colourful when I'm watching it, I think you might be surprised by the 4k and the blu ray is a good one 👍 let me know what you think about it mate if you pick it up 🤩🤩👍👍
Well John, I’ve just watched the 4K and wanted to report back my findings. Firstly, the Atmos mix is very good indeed, I certainly jumped in the scene where the phone rang! Overall the image quality is superb, a little grainy at times but I don’t mind that at all. In my opinion however, the saturation of colour (mainly reds) is way too much and looks false. The blu ray for me is my preferred option. It’s purely down to personal preference I guess. Glad I have the two options. All the best mate
@whitey7998 cheers for your views on the transfer Whitey 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah the colour warmth can be something that is problematic if you think it looks false mate, yeah personal choice is the factor here bud, I'm a fan of the extra colours, but maybe it's my eyes that aren't the best makes it ok 🥸 🤩 cheers for getting back mate 😁😁👍👍
Hi John 👋 hope you're ok 👍 The Exorcist is my wife's favourite film so we're off to watch the 4k remaster at the cinema next weekend at the cinema 🎥 Nice review. Definitely going to have to grab a copy.❤
Hi Roy, yeah all good mate, as I hope everything is with you 🤩🤩👍👍oh wow, don't hear that very often! The Debs couldn't watch a frame of it 😱😱🤣 the movie has never looked better and enjoy checking it out at the Cinema 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi , I still have this on vhs. I never did buy the dvd. In fact it was on BBC recently and I watched for the first time on a good sized HD tv, through my speaker system, and it was brilliant. I remember going to the cinema to see it, and standing in a long queued. The cinema was packed, so you can imagine the atmosphere .. made worse by everyone noticing people wearing an Ambulance uniform milling about in the foyer with their medical bags at the ready. Lol [ I kid you not ] ... We did hear a few thumps to the floor during the screening....If my memory serves me well, one was .. when the straps tying Regan to the bed snapped, and her eyes went up, turning white, and she floated above the bed ... free. [ Thud !!!! ] It even got a few laughs from the audience. Oh, those were the days. .... Footnote; Longest ever known queue ouside the cinema in Blackpool where I live, was for "Enter The Dragon". Never before or since has there been a longer queue ... twice around the entire area of streets around the cinema. Unbelievable !!! and inside ... No more seats ...so ...people sat on the stairs, and stood where they could totally filling the place. Me and friends + my sister stood at the back of the stalls leaning over the back wooden partition during the 1st movie, starring Donald Sutherland called "Steeleyard Blues". [ best scene, at the zoo cleaning out the lions cage ... Hysterical ] Movie finished .. Loads of people got up and left having seen both movies ... and we grabbed seats for the main event. Never forgot that amazing day. Great review ! Cheers John.....[ ps ; have deleted scenes been put back ? ... eg ; Regan spider walking backwards down the stairs ? ]
Great memories, I also saw Enter The Dragon shortly after it's release in 73 when I was 12 yrs old, incredible experience, was really bummed out that I could not see The Exorcist as it was Restricted here in Canada so anyone under 18 could not see it, parents went to see it though, however years later in early 1979 The Exorcist was rereleased here so I got a chance to see it on the big screen, I was also one of the last customers to get in as it was sold out and people were turned away after me, wonderful memories! Cheers
@robertzemko6590 I can imagine Enter the Dragon being such a great experience Robert 🤩🤩👌👌 even seeing The Exorcist later in 1979, its still a lot earlier than most of us in the UK in the late 70s till it was re-released in 1999 we pretty much couldn't see it!! 🤯 bet those experiences were class mate 😁😁 thanks for sharing your story Robert 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John, "The Exorcist" is a horror classic & that set the tone for many demonic & exorcism movies that followed, & i watched this movie when i shouldn"t have 😬but as young teen & its was very shocking & to some still is for today. Like yourself i"m a fan of original art work & the movie posters that we remembered from back in the day & it don"t get as iconic as this one, & while there is a few editions out there this is the one i"ll be getting. I do prefer other horror classics to this one but its a very essential one to the collection. Fine review Sir.
The steelbook has a fifth disc in which is excellent and also a cracking price for a steelbook in general!! I think overall the prices for The Exorcist editions have been really reasonable, which is unusual these days mate! 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Thanks for the review. I have issues with the HDR in the subway scene and the exorcism scene but overall its a nice upgrade. Just such a shame those parts don’t look better. They went too blue!
Cheers for watching 🤩🤩👍👍I haven't watched it fully as I said, I saw the subway scene and I saw the lights looked a bit overblown at times 🤔 the outdoor scenes especially buildings looked really amazing for me 👌 thanks for watching 😁😁👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies yeah, there seems to be a small number of issues with the colours (scenes that were blue now have more purple in them) as well as HDR causing blooming and colour bleeding. Some examples given in this review: ruclips.net/video/kkqkDfyedjw/видео.htmlsi=ql9CG_LwwikB5iWN
I’ve watched every one of William Friedkin’s theatrically released films, and this is how I’d rank them from worst to best: 19. *Deal of the Century* The director has never spoken of this film. For good reason. 18. *The Night They Raided Minsky’s* A Sixties musical about the back stage interactions at a burlesque repertory? “Yes, please!”, said nobody ever. 17. *Good Times* Everyone starts somewhere. 16. *The Guardian* The late great Roger Ebert in his review humorously pointed out that this is the first horror film in history where a chainsaw is used to attack a tree. 15. *The Brink’s Job* This crime caper comedy drama is a curiously unambitious step back for the director considering the film he did before this one. 14. *Bug* A psychological horror film that should have grabbed me but didn’t. 13. *Blue Chips* I like a great sports movie, but this not one of them. Nick Nolte is however very fun to watch in the role of a college basketball coach. 12. *The Birthday Party* A filmed play, basically. I think I liked this better than Friedkin did. And it’s always a joy to watch Robert Shaw’s acting chops. 11. *Jade* More or less a total rehash of Basic Instinct (which Joe Eszterhas also penned), albeit an entertaining one. But the movie is far from Friedkin’s best work (contrary to what he claimed otherwise). 10. *Rules of Engagement* Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson are always a treat to watch in this very competently made courtroom drama. But long gone is the Hurricane Billy era. 9. *The Boys in the Band* Another filmed play. Not very cinematic, but this is an extremely well-acted relationship drama that ushered in the Queer Cinema subgenre. Highly recommended. 8. *The Hunted* If you liked the source novel to First Blood better than the classic Stallone film, you should check this adventure thriller out. 7. *Rampage* This hidden gem was shelved for five years before getting a theater release in 1992. Not without some flaws, it does feature one memorable jump scare-and the movie is a legal drama! 6. *Killer Joe* Though not quite a return to form as far as edge goes, this is the best film he’s done in many years. 5. *Sorcerer* Often cited as one of the last intellectual films that typified the “New Hollywood” of the 1970s. Not quite a masterpiece, but absolutely a must watch. This would be the first in a string of flops that the director never quite recovered from. 4. *To Live and Die in L.A.* The last great film by this legendary director, it feels like The French Connection hopped up on 1980s coke! And whatta car chase! 3. *Cruising* I don’t care what anyone says, this is one fearless and edgy crime thriller, and it’s all the better for it. Classic Friedkin nastiness. 2. *The French Connection* Nothing more needs to be said about this film, except to say that if you haven’t seen it, you are not a true cinephile. 1. *The Exorcist* The greatest horror film ever made. Period. Full stop.

Good question 🤔 I think with the colour grading they have stayed pretty true to the source, the colours don't change too much from the blu ray, but the bird really came to life 😲 be interesting to see another version of it to compare 🤔👍👍
I hate the art they put on the cover here in the US. That's like changing the friggin music. Who made that decision? I'll need to import mine from the UK.
I agree Steve!! 😱 I would go this cover over any other!! 👍👍 saying that if a steelbook came out black with pazazu on the cover.....I might be tempted 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
John you seem like a very nice person but I cannot disagree with you more strongly. The 4K version of the Exorcist is in a word garish. It is so bad that it looks like a hammer horror film from the early days with colors that pop off the screen in a disgusting forced fashion. I actually said out loud omg more than a few times watching your review and your comparison because the 4K was terrible in every instance. Thank you for saving me a lot of money by showing me the difference. The 4K transfer of the Exorcist is in a word horrendous. Because of your comparison I will retain my Blu-ray copy of the original which is a far better more realistic and even better defined transfer.
When i take pictures on my phone it adds a level of colour 🤔 I'm going to turn my HDR off on it (when I can find the setting 🥴) the blu ray is solid release as well Joshua 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Yeah Ot3, when I was flicking through the 4k that really stood out, then when I went back to the blu ray I was surprised to see the difference in the bird!! 😲😁😁👍👍

A huge thank you for sharing your thoughts on it
Beautiful artwork, that’s for sure. The US release, while *very* much disliked by many people, is pretty cool in my opinion.
I popped into HMV today looking forward to picking this up and they didn't have it, no pos and no sign of it. Good job I had another reason for going to town. Just checked hmv online and they have preorders of the special edition back in stock so bit the bullet and preordered it.
Cracking review Mondo!
Thanks Sam, really nice release this one 😁😁👌👌
@@BillsOldandNewGaming I forgot about the problems the disc had but then suddenly remembered when I had a reply to an email I sent asking when they’d be sent out
It really is a fantastic release Findlay 😊😊👏👏 I'm sure you will love it! That set coming out in October looks amazing it has an extra disc in as well (5 discs apparently in total) I haven't forgotten about getting you some Arrow recommendations mate, just been a bit busy at the moment bit I will 👍👍👍 yeah can't wait for those replacement discs mate!! Cheers for the info Findlay 😊😊👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies never seen a set with 5 discs ! Looking forward to the recommendations.
@@MondoChelloveckMovies never seen a set with 5 discs ! Looking forward to the recommendations.
That looks appealing. I was always much more of a fan of The Omen. But I will give this another go. Glad you dug the 4K, John!
It's great Badger, although if I had the 2 to watch I would probably go for The Omen 🤔 hope The Omen gets a 4k soon mate 🤞🤞👍👍
Thanks Whitey, remember the colours in photos gave some added HDR from my phone so it's less colourful when I'm watching it, I think you might be surprised by the 4k and the blu ray is a good one 👍 let me know what you think about it mate if you pick it up 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies it’s on its way to me. I do have the blu ray already so will watch that again first. Cheers mate
@whitey7998 hope you enjoy it Whitey 🤩🤩 I really had a good time with it...also the Dolby Atmos is spectacular I feel 😁😁👍👍
Also had the antichrist on cult films 🎥 with slip art cards 😊
Hi John,
"The Exorcist" is a horror classic & that set the tone for many demonic & exorcism movies that followed, & i watched this movie when i shouldn"t have 😬but as young teen & its was very shocking & to some still is for today.
Watching and reading reviews that the new 4K scan of The Exorcist is not ideal. Some scenes have boosted colours leading to saturation and bleeding
Fantastic as always john
Thanks for watching mate! Appreciate that Brad 😁😁👍👍
I pre-ordered the Blue Steelbook from HMV, so glad I did for £24.99 best version of new release...
The steelbook has a fifth disc in which is excellent and also a cracking price for a steelbook in general!! I think overall the prices for The Exorcist editions have been really reasonable, which is unusual these days mate! 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
I got the 5 disc Steelbook
Good call....that's the fullest version around mate 🤩🤩👏👏
Thanks for the review. I have issues with the HDR in the subway scene and the exorcism scene but overall its a nice upgrade. Just such a shame those parts don’t look better. They went too blue!
Cheers for watching 🤩🤩👍👍I haven't watched it fully as I said, I saw the subway scene and I saw the lights looked a bit overblown at times 🤔 the outdoor scenes especially buildings looked really amazing for me 👌 thanks for watching 😁😁👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies
yeah, there seems to be a small number of issues with the colours (scenes that were blue now have more purple in them) as well as HDR causing blooming and colour bleeding.
Some examples given in this review:
ruclips.net/video/kkqkDfyedjw/видео.htmlsi=ql9CG_LwwikB5iWN
I’ve watched every one of William Friedkin’s theatrically released films, and this is how I’d rank them from worst to best:
19. *Deal of the Century*
The director has never spoken of this film. For good reason.
18. *The Night They Raided Minsky’s*
A Sixties musical about the back stage interactions at a burlesque repertory? “Yes, please!”, said nobody ever.
17. *Good Times*
Everyone starts somewhere.
16. *The Guardian*
The late great Roger Ebert in his review humorously pointed out that this is the first horror film in history where a chainsaw is used to attack a tree.
15. *The Brink’s Job*
This crime caper comedy drama is a curiously unambitious step back for the director considering the film he did before this one.
14. *Bug*
A psychological horror film that should have grabbed me but didn’t.
13. *Blue Chips*
I like a great sports movie, but this not one of them. Nick Nolte is however very fun to watch in the role of a college basketball coach.
12. *The Birthday Party*
A filmed play, basically. I think I liked this better than Friedkin did. And it’s always a joy to watch Robert Shaw’s acting chops.
11. *Jade*
More or less a total rehash of Basic Instinct (which Joe Eszterhas also penned), albeit an entertaining one. But the movie is far from Friedkin’s best work (contrary to what he claimed otherwise).
10. *Rules of Engagement*
Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson are always a treat to watch in this very competently made courtroom drama. But long gone is the Hurricane Billy era.
9. *The Boys in the Band*
Another filmed play. Not very cinematic, but this is an extremely well-acted relationship drama that ushered in the Queer Cinema subgenre. Highly recommended.
8. *The Hunted*
If you liked the source novel to First Blood better than the classic Stallone film, you should check this adventure thriller out.
7. *Rampage*
This hidden gem was shelved for five years before getting a theater release in 1992. Not without some flaws, it does feature one memorable jump scare-and the movie is a legal drama!
6. *Killer Joe*
Though not quite a return to form as far as edge goes, this is the best film he’s done in many years.
5. *Sorcerer*
Often cited as one of the last intellectual films that typified the “New Hollywood” of the 1970s. Not quite a masterpiece, but absolutely a must watch. This would be the first in a string of flops that the director never quite recovered from.
4. *To Live and Die in L.A.*
The last great film by this legendary director, it feels like The French Connection hopped up on 1980s coke! And whatta car chase!
3. *Cruising*
I don’t care what anyone says, this is one fearless and edgy crime thriller, and it’s all the better for it. Classic Friedkin nastiness.
2. *The French Connection*
Nothing more needs to be said about this film, except to say that if you haven’t seen it, you are not a true cinephile.
1. *The Exorcist*
The greatest horror film ever made. Period. Full stop.
Wow what a list mate 🤩🤩👏👏 thanks for the short synopsis of his films, I've never heard anyone say they saw all of his or any other director for that matter, seeing all of a person's filmography at the Cinema well done bud 🤩🤩👌👌 I must admit I haven't seen too many of his films but the ones I've seen (about 5) I would probably put in around the same order as yourself) 🤔🤩👍 thanks again for this list and I'll definitely use it as a reference for the future 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Just pre order mausoleum special edition another treasured films 🎥 classic October the 30 th 😊
That sounds a good release Gary 👍👍

Cheers Danny, yeah it's a true classic mate 🤩🤩👍👍
why is the enter the dragon 4k disc got 15 rating on it
I think its be recertified at a 15 Gary 🤔👍👍
Hey man, odd question: I prefer the UK slip over the US. Could I possibly pay you to ship me a 4K release? Thanks!
Have you got any emails, social media etc to get in touch with me Nonie? 👍👍
Nice review John 😎
Thanks for watching Shaun, great release! 🤩🤩👍👍
Does your enter the dragon 4k disc say certificate 15 on it the blue ray and Box say 18 is it a miss print 😮. Hoe the 4k disc is not cut ?
Disc not cut, think the 18 certificate is for the extras Gary 😁😁👍👍
That 4K version will turn a few heads.
🤣 Nice one mate...bu dum tish! 😁😁👏👏
I’ve heard the exorcism scene at the end looks waxy and off, is this true? I love this film and want to upgrade
I Chris, personally I have no problems with that scene I think it looks great to me, I know there are calls of DNR in the Excorsim scene but if it is its minimal and it doesn't bother me at all....personally I recommend it highly 😊😊👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies thanks, gonna purchase it then 😀
@chrishustwayte7821 I'm sure you will be impressed and the 4k isn't too expensive and has a blu ray in as well so it's a no brainer, if you prefer the blu ray it's in there (the previous blu ray) 😊 let me know what you think of it Chris 😊😊👍👍
Thank you John.
No problems Cheekster buddy 🤩🤩👌👌

I also bought the regular edition of The Exorcist 4k as I to like that artwork . I thought the 4k looks great. I also.own Lisa & The devil blu ray. Good review John
Can't beat that iconic artwork can you Mark 👌👌 I need to rewatch Lisa and the Devil soon mate, what did you make of the House of Exorcism cut Mark 🤔😁👍
If the _after_ shots are HDR, to my eyes they look oversaturated. 🤔
The screen shots I took on my phone have HDR on the disc.....also my phone has HDR on so they aren't as oversaturated in real life 👍👍
is the image really much better on 4k
Personality I think it is an upgrade mate, although the blu ray is nice in itself, find it in a sale and the blu ray with it is the previous blu ray, so you have all things covered I find 🤔🤩👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies some said the blu ray was better and that the transfer to 4k was not good. thanks for sharing your opinion. i think its a mixed bag like some said maybe. i already own the blu ray directors cut.
@maniaque37 it's definitely a case of personal choice, there has been a lot of division over this transfer, but the channels opinions I listen to have said good things about the 4k 👍👍 as I said if you find it cheap you get the lot in the 4k set including blu rays of both cuts as well as 4ks of both cuts so it's a good package to own 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Amazon emailed me saying mine delayed 😮💿 but i just received the new pyscho collection 4 k Blu-ray Arrow boxset 🚿🔪🎥👍

John are the Blu Rays included with the 4ks region free?
The blu rays are Region B locked Nizam, are you in the U.S? 👍👍
I'm in Singapore. Anyway thanks John, looks like I'll just have to settle for the 50th anniversary US copy.

@nizamaziz4863 ok Nizam, hope you get a good release....maybe you could pick up a cheap US blu Ray for the special features that aren't featured on the US 4k? 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
👌👍😊
so is that bird you orange or red in real life??
Good question 🤔 I think with the colour grading they have stayed pretty true to the source, the colours don't change too much from the blu ray, but the bird really came to life 😲 be interesting to see another version of it to compare 🤔👍👍
Zombi holocaust 4k special edition just arrived 😊😊
Nice one let's hope its okay Gary 🤞🤞🤩🤩
Its still the scariest movie John.
I can see why it's classed as that Paul!! Got some iconic moments in there for sure mate 🤯🤯😱😱👍👍
For me 4k, and blu ray, are not about colour, in a lot of cases, I turn the colour down.
You prefer the sharpness Peter? 👍👍
No the natural look of the film.@@MondoChelloveckMovies
Holy crap the bird literally changed colours!
Yeah Ot3, when I was flicking through the 4k that really stood out, then when I went back to the blu ray I was surprised to see the difference in the bird!! 😲😁😁👍👍
