      I think the only reason the load times on the saturn aren't as fast as they should be is because a different capcom team programmed it for the system for the first time and that's why it's like that. that same team did port capcom generation 5 to the saturn and the load times are faster than the SSF2 disc.
      It's too bad they didn't use the ram cart for capcom 5 because I bet the load times would be at near zero if they did.

    The 3DO port was very impressive circa-1994 as it was the first SF home port to closely match the sprite size and animation count of its coin-op counterpart. I remember salivating over screenshots of it on EGM way back when. It was far from arcade perfect however as the 3DO hardware was not up to the task....missing parallax scrolling, reduced resolution+color depth, cuts in sprite/background animation, input lag. Despite the arranged soundtrack (that I could fire up on Hyper Street Fighter II on PS2), Saturn wins this hands down and that too was a port with (less) issues.

    They're very similar. 3DO lacks some background animation and parallax, while occasionally looking more noticeably dithered. Weird to see the post-fight characters censored on the 3DO. I'd probably never miss these differences without comparing them side by side, and I do like the quicker load times of the 3DO.

    • @BurritoKingdom
      @BurritoKingdom Год назад +2

      Yeah. It makes no sense because the 3DO basically had no restrictions. I believe there are hentai games on the 3do. Snatcher, policenauts and D were uncensored on the 3do but censored on the Saturn and PlayStation

    • @WeskerSega
      @WeskerSega Год назад +2

      @@BurritoKingdom Snatcher was not released on the 3DO, and I don't think there's any further censorship on the Sega Saturn versions (PlayStation is different story) of D and Policenauts compared to the 3DO versions, unless you compare the former with D: Director's Cut for the 3DO but that's an afterwards release and there's none if you compare with the original 3DO version. In fact, with Policenauts it's on the contrary, the Sega Saturn version is a "Director's Cut" with new scenes compared to what was released on the 3DO, so it would be the same situation but the other way around.

  • @michaelzoran
    @michaelzoran 5 лет назад +21

    WINNER: Saturn. ... Both versions are excellent. The Saturn version had better graphics.The 3DO version is clearly missing parallax scrolling. The 3DO version had faster load times. But, the Saturn version had very fast load times that weren't a problem. Load times are only a problem when they are insanely long such as the Neo Geo CD. The sound also appears to be better in the Saturn version in some spots and better in the 3DO version in some spots. Saturn had superior 2D hardware and superior sound processing to the 3DO. Saturn also had superior RAM and data transfer, so I'm surprised 3DO had a faster load time. The faster load times may have been a result of the graphics that were missing some frames, had a bit less detail, and fewer colors.

  • @somethingoriginal1707

    Saturn:
    More colors (look at intro for comparison)
    Higher resolution
    More frames of animation
    More parallax scrolling (3DO is missing parallax in a few stages, like Ryu's for example)
    More background animation (Look at the leftmost side of Dee Jay's stage)
    Less censorship (Blood in lose portraits)
    Less slowdown (Kinda hard to see in the video, but it's quite noticeable if you compare both versions irl)
    Comes with 6 button controller, feels great to play
    Arcade soundtrack
    3DO:
    Slightly faster loading
    Remixed Soundtrack
    Overall, I'd say Saturn wins by a wide margin

      Also, the Saturn was designed as a 2D powerhouse, so naturally a 2D game would be capable of way more on it than on competing hardware. It's 3D games that were the Saturn's weak point, largely because of how poorly 3D support was implemented into the system (i.e. slapping on a second CPU with zero cross-talk and using square polygons instead of triangles).

    The 3DO version's loading time is almost identical to the Saturn's (it is *not* faster). The difference is, Capcom hadn't begun to add "Now Loading" text to those screens back when the 3DO conversion was done. 3DO just has a black screen, but the loading between fights is the same.

    There's something strange about the resolution. The 3DO version has adapted its resolution to display fully, even if it means modifying the graphics (the cage in Chun Li's level has lost a pair of rungs and in the Guile level it misses a part of the boombox), while on Saturn the game retains the original ratio but is missing the sides of the screen.

      Exactly right. SSF2 may not have been SSF2T but it’s basically the same stages. People are being ridiculous. And yes, the SNES and Genesis had more background animations than 3D0. Honestly it’s hard to believe 3D0 was ever meant to compare to the Saturn or PSX as 99% of 3D0 games looked like complete trash. 32X, 3D0 and Jaguar were all interchangeable garbage. Even their best games looked like crap.

    It's a bit weird the 3DO version loses absolutely ALL parallax depth effects.. I have looked into the hardware and it should have been able to do at least a basic 2 layer setup which would have been better than nothing. Is the 3DO version the only way to get that soundtrack? Anyone know?

    • @HellTantrumbull
      @HellTantrumbull 3 года назад +1

      The remixed music is also on the Street Fighter Anniversary collection that's on ps2 and xbox. I ripped the tracks from it and replaced the music in the saturn version with those tracks since I got tired of hearing the arcade tracks. that's why people always hear them when I uploaded my saturn videos for the game.
      As for the backgrounds on the 3DO version, I was told the game might have been rushed to the system and that's why so many animations are missing even on the characters. even the hit detection and game speed are off from the arcade so that could be true about it being rushed.

    The parallax scrolling backgrounds of the Saturn port look far nicer than the 3DO's single layer backgrounds, and the line-scrolling floor effect looks more convincing on the Saturn, but swear I noticed a few extra frames of character animation on the 3DO, which is weird considering it has less VRAM compared to the Saturn.

    • @televisionandcheese

      Are you sure? For certain I see more animation frames on Saturn, look at hula girl at start. On Saturn there is even elements that are animated where on 3D0 they are static. (Guys on table on left in first round, person down alley in chunli stage...)

      @danielm2142 5 лет назад

      @@televisionandcheese Ah, my apologies, I realise my comment was poorly worded. I was talking about the fighters themselves, not the characters in the background. I may be wrong as I only really skimmed through it. The Saturn being the 2D powerhouse it is probably does have better graphics all-round, and taking resolution into account, it's pretty much night and day.

    • @HellTantrumbull
      @HellTantrumbull 5 лет назад

      Nothing on the 3do is animated more than the saturn version, the saturn has all arcade animations as well as animating Ryu a little more than the arcade in the opening while he's doing his fight stance and forming the hadoken.
      On 3do characters along with backgrounds are missing animations but you won't really notice it unless you look for them but thankfully not missing the large amount of frames the snes and genesis are missing.
      The only thing that's really off with the saturn version like with all cps1 and 2 games ported to it is the HUD is out of place due to the system not supporting the same resolution as the arcade version and capcom had to move them a little so they fit on screen properly.
      3do, like I mentioned in the last video comparing the continue screen it is a better port than anything the 16 bit consoles could do but the system has a serious control problem even if you use the fight pad that was made for it and the game doesn't run smooth at all when you play on the faster speeds while the saturn and ps1 versions don't have these problems.
      As for music, for anyone that doesn't like the arcade music they can do like I did with he saturn and swap the music tracks for something better and I swapped them out for the music that plays on the 3do version. :)

But on the 3DO there’s even more unknown or under appreciated games. The 3DO was a real console, unlike the Jaguar, Amiga CD32, FM Towns Marty, or the 32X. It has a vast library of games.

      agreed, also Saturn version had a perfect standard 6 button controller to play the game, but the 3D0 had this version of SF2 as a console exclusive for years before any other console did. So for a little while 3D0 was the only version avaliable. Love the AKuma theme music in the 3D0 game.
