  • Congratulations to Mysore on regaining its ‘Cleanest City in India’ tag. The origins of Policy towards cleanliness can be found in the early 20th Century. In 1904, the government headed by H.H. Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, Maharaja of Mysore, Established the City Improvement Trust Board (CITB), one of the earliest town planning bodies in India.
Before the formation of City Improvement Trust, The then Dewan of Mysore, Sri Sheshadri Iyer, constituted the Sanitary Board. In the year 1898-99, A Plague had spread all over Mysore City and thousands of people died on account of this tragic incident. In order to prevent recurrence of plague and also to remove all the slum areas,The then Maharaja of Mysore H.H. Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV vide his Order dated 18-9-1902 Constituted a 12 member committee that became The Sanitary Board.
‘My sincere thanks to all my fellow citizens for ensuring, through your efforts, that Mysore regained it’s status as ‘The Cleanest City in India’ (Medium City’s Category). Let us strive to keep up the good work and continue to keep our city clean and environment friendly!
    -YKC Wadiyar
