    The barn is looking so good! You’ve all been working hard, and I’m sure it will pay off. Great news on the tulips, by the way, and the drone footage is very cool. Thanks for the video!

    Blake is almost as tall as you, Shelly! Even though you have a huge project ahead of you, you guys have already accomplished so much. Looking forward to seeing drone footage of your gardens and farm progress this year. My pre-sprouting ranunculus were not sprouting in the cool dark utility room so I moved them to my warm, light living room and sprouts all over now! I think despite any "rules" about plant growing, if a plant wants to grow it will grow. Your experiment showed your tulips just want to live!😊

    Love your excitement for the tulip experiment. I would have tried the same thing. Its hard when you can't get clear answers in gardening groups. Congrats!

    So, I was just reading about the tulips. If they have roots before the freeze, they will be fine. A chemical change occurs that protects the bulb. And even though the dirt froze it still provided some protection.
    It will be interesting to see how they bloom and the differences between those and the in ground ones!
    PS- Barn is really starting to come together!

    I’m sure they will grow just fine, my tulips and daffodils are planted in containers, literally hundreds, they froze solid, some even frost heaved , they are all growing and the some are blooming. I too thought they were doomed!

    So much progress, Shelley with both the barn and plants. So exciting! Does the barn have a new roof?

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  5 месяцев назад

      It has a new roof on the back side… which was in dire need! We couldn’t quite afford to put a new roof on the whole thing… but at least now it doesn’t have huge holes for the rain to destroy the inside. 😊

      It looks good. We had to reroof our biggest, oldest barn 2 years ago. Every time we got a storm, a new piece seemed to roll up. It does save the structure though@@GuidingGreenThumbs

    I live in zone 6 and everyone kept saying you have to dig your gladiolus and a friend decided to do what she and i do with other blubs. Put them a about a little on the deep side and she has had them for 4yrs now getting larger and healthier than the dug ones.

    Not so sure the tulip specialist who told you that tulip bulbs in containers would die if frozen is correct.
    Edit..from what i was told, if one plants a perennial above ground in a pot, and over winters the perennial in the pot, one should expect a perennial with a zone hardiness of 3 to be able to survive, if the hardinass zone in your area only goes down to 5.
    I would expect that to apply to all perennials...🤔
    Tulips need the cold... I guess it would be called stratification.

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  5 месяцев назад

      That was exactly my logic but if you look up how to grow tulips, all the suppliers say don’t let the bulbs freeze. It’s bizarre.

    Why didn’t you guys keep all the hay to use for mulch or compost?

    • @GuidingGreenThumbs
      @GuidingGreenThumbs  5 месяцев назад

      Hay has seeds in it which would be more of a pain down the road with weeding….we are using it in our back field where it’s wet.
