    Just a note about lettuce, when you get it home, open the bag it came in and put a folded paper towel in the bag and close the bag. It absorbs the moisture and the lettuce lasts longer. As the paper towel gets damp you need to replace it. For me that is usually after 3 or 4 days. Nice review.

    You did a great job putting it to the test. It seems to work although its usefulness seems to depend on what you're storing. I'm not sure if the benefits outweigh the cost and convenience of disposable Ziploc bags.

    I love my Food Saver but I only use it for freezer foods, mostly meats. I can see that smaller one would be more convenient for some items. Thanks for the review😃

    Your reviews standout because you try things like a normal person would generally use them. I can see this thing coming in handy. It's so compact that you can keep it on the counter or in a drawer or cabinet within easy reach. We know all too well that if it's a hassle to use it becomes useless. Thanks for another great review.

      Thank you we really appreciate that. We do try to try things that we would use it for. You are exactly right, if it’s a hassle it won’t be used! Thanks again, have a great day! 😀

    I guess it depends on what you're talking about, but any food vacuum sealer I've ever used you can re-seal bags as long as you have enough bag left to seal. Generally, the chamber vacuum machines use much cheaper bags and work much better, but are much larger and cost a lot more. However, I've never looked back since getting a chamber vacuum sealer. It just works much better than a food saver. Vacuum Sealed stuff lasts much longer in the freezer without freezer burn than ziplock in my experience, so some vacuum sealing is worth it if you freeze things for a long time.

    Another great review, ladies. This system is similar to a Ziplock vacuum system that had a hand pump not a battery one. The vacuum did not always hold well after a few reuses of the bag. Also, the bags were kind of pricey and hard to find. Three years ago we bought a FoodSaver vacuum system and love it. We don't buy the bags, we buy the 11" x 50' rolls and make our own bags to size. The two rolls last us at least a year and are less than $20. If we intend to take items out of the bag and reseal it--we just make the bag a little bigger than normal. Tip: freeze your meat, chicken, etc for an hour or two before vac sealing it and the juices won't come out. Edited to add: We got the smaller FoodSaver. It is smaller than a typical keyboard.

    • @2centchick
      @2centchick  6 лет назад

      $20 for 2 years not a bad price at all. Thanks for the tip!

    I have the counter top type food sealer, I'm on my 2nd one in 4 yrs my 1st one died after my boyfriend used it and got juices from the meat down into it , it fried it. But I love my 2nd one even more, It has an option for moist food so it doesn't crush and turn them to mush , I buy my meat in bulk and then come home and separate into meals and I can keep them in the freezer for a long time without freezer burn. A few got lost in the back of my deep freezer and when I found them cleaning it out to defrost it, They were buried in frost, and were still fine and had been in there 3 years Extra rolls for mine (cut to size) is about $20 per roll

    I have a traditional vacuum sealer, and you can reseal those bags. I do it all the time. You just have to cut down the end so you can get a fresh seal. Which I would want to do anyway since I’m storing less in the bag. But, it does take up a lot of room and is not very attractive. So I can definitely see the appeal in this product.

  • @karenj6726
    @karenj6726 6 лет назад +2

    Foodsaver has a hand-held vacuum sealer, too. Doesn't need batteries, it charges by plugging into the wall outlet. Uses the same type of bags, reusable. Easier and faster.

    I had the ziplock one too a long time ago but they quit selling the bags in stores, I heard Debbie Myer bought the rights or something. I loved it. I used it along with PressNSeal bags and I would make a couple hamburger patties, press n seal individually put them in those bags and just pull out what i need for lunch and reseal the bag for the rest.

    Fruit works well if you use a fold top sandwich bag and wrap individual servings. Actually though, I used a food saver handheld works better than the brand you tested. That's what I used before I bought the regular foodsaver. So if you want a handheld, the food saver brand works much more efficiently and I believe it's the same price as the brand you used.

    If you like fruit in your smoothies: buy it , prep (peel, cut) put onto a plate and freeze it. When completely frozen, put it into storage bags. It won't get mushy and it won't stick together so you can take out exactly the amount you want. It thaws super quick.

    I have a Foodsaver that has been sitting on a shelf for at least a year, Ziploc has a handheld that uses no batteries or electric, just a pumping action. I use the Ziploc for everyday use (I'll post a pic on Facebook) and my Foodsaver if I buy 1/2 a cow or a whole pig. I do like that seal vac though, but I'd probably go back to my Ziploc.

    Food Saver hand held works better but personally, the investment in the appliance is well worth it. I package things so I can get a part of what I've put up and then reseal the remaining food in the bag I'm already using. The roll will package a lot of food so it really isn't that big of an investment. Mine is 3 years old and got it on sale for around $70 dollars.

    This is similar to the Pump-N-Seal (manual pump) that was out about 15 years ago. The zip-lok type bags would always loose seal. I would not recommend reusing bags that had raw meat in them.

    interesting. i like it for what you said about dry products, i buy in bulk. i get things like rice and bean in bulk and this way i could seal a bunch of it that i am not using at the time. love the cheese idea and the freezer, but i have one question to ask about that and that is how well does it work if you were marinade some meats and throw it in the freezer, and do the bags keep the orders in even after washing? please let me know how that works out, because i freeze a lot of liquid like foods so it would be nice to know these answers before buying. i think it would be a great idea and once they come out in the stores i might pick one up. great review as always. Cathy i know what you were thinking at the beginning. hehehehe

    • @2centchick
      @2centchick  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Ken! It does say you can season your food before sealing, but I will say that if it your marinade was too liquidy, it will suck some of it out through the little hole when sealing, but I still think it would work well. R-

    If I were packing lunches for kids,.. I would get the GREEN BOXES on HSN. They absorb the METHANE GASES and make things stay fresh for tons longer, like things that would be going bad in a few days to lasting WEEKS. The strawberries etc. would do very well in there. How about you do a test on those green boxes? They also have GREEN BAGS for produce keeping. I swear by them.

    Confession time: I have put dry foods and cheeses into a zip lock bag, inserted a plastic straw with half of it sticking out, zipped the bag almost completely closed, and then sucked the air out with the straw (it usually takes just one deep inhale). When the air was gone, I slipped out the straw and zipped it the rest of the way (as I am pulling out the straw) . I keep a straw in the utensil gadget drawer just for this.
