The stupid people only keeping them in business give it 5-10 years many of the orcas will have likely passed due to captivity and since this is the last generation of captive orcas the sales will definitely go down as more and more of the animals pass, unfortunately I belive only 17 orcas are now in captivity which isn't many, so with so few left we got maybe 10 years

    Orcas are such intelligent, powerful, and beautiful creatures. I hate to see how their fins curve because of being kept in captivity. Unfortunately the trainer made an almost deadly mistake and broke protocol. The orca mouth closing could have been an instinctive reaction to the water pressure. Sad, but I hope there’s full recovery. Whales were created to thrive in the open oceans… NOT to be held hostage and used for our entertainment!

    • @tidalthrills
      @tidalthrills Год назад +3

      I usually don’t respond to comments like this but the dorsal fin one is simply not true. Their dorsal fins can get up to 6 feet tall and there is no bone structure in those dorsal fins, only their pectoral flippers. These orcas do not hunt, they get all of their food from their trainers. The fin starts to curve because the stability of the water keeps it upright and it just naturally grows into the curve. Studies have shown that any orcas that spend a lot of time at the surface start showing the curve. It doesn’t just happen to whales in zoological facilities, it happens in the wild too. There’s a population of orcas of the coast of New Zealand that had this curve and they primarily hunt stingrays in shallow water.

      @@tidalthrills We need to start saying, "credible studies". Because I have seen a YT argument where the girl made crap up by starting all of her fake points with "studies have shown". And it turns out it was a teenager in his parents basement performing non-scientific, wholly uncredible "studies" just so she could pretend she was smart and to sound more convincing and influential. Better yet, a study by doctors Johnson and Smith from 2020, published in the scientific/peer-reviewed journal is even more helpful. Yet, sadly, even those have been prone to tampering as anyone with Internet access can now ask AI to write a fake research paper and some "peer-reviewed" journals will publish them (despite being fake).

      This was not a tickle! She hit a nerve in one of her broken teeth. These animals have no stimulation overnight, so they chew on the concrete, ingesting toxic chemicals and damaging, sometimes fracturing their teeth.
      They drill holes in the teeth with no "Novocain" and they don't fill them. That's what happened. SeaWorld has been telling many lies. Even tried to blame trainers for their deaths. There are a lot of dirty secrets here!

    • @anyaw340
      @anyaw340 6 дней назад

      @@tidalthrills Nothing she said is untrue. The dorsal fins of captive males are collapsed PRECISELY because they are captive - as almost all male orcas in captivity have collapsed dorsal fins due to the conditions in captivity. This is RARE in the wild, where only about 1% of male orcas have collapsed dorsal fins; and in most cases, the collapses are explained by injury - not by natural occurrence. Additionally, the explanation you've provided for why the fins of captive males are collapsed is *SeaWorld's* explanation. There are multiple explanations that have been proposed by experts, including changes in the collagen of the dorsal fin due to temperature change, diet change of captive orcas, and lowered blood pressure from reduced exercise in captive males; low blood pressure can't sustain an erect dorsal fin. These dorsal fins are not just "growing" in a curve - they are COLLAPSING. There has not been one settled upon explanation for why their fins have collapsed. What we DO know is that this is a phenomenon suffered almost exclusively by captive orcas like those at SeaWorld. The explanation you've selectively chosen is the nicest-sounding one. "Oh, they're just naturally growing that way now because they spend a lot of time at the surface - just like some wild orca." Sure. 🙄
      *EDIT*: Upon checking your profile, you work at SeaWorld - a fact you've conveniently left out of your response. This completely explains your so obviously biased take.

What happens if the occasional Great White accidental attack is no longer the biggest threat humans have to face in the oceans? What if all Orcas begin waging war against all humans who enter their homes? I think the people who say the Orcas are just “playing” with all those boats are delusional and not understanding that Orcas have the ability to strategize and work together to achieve anything they desire. I personally do NOT think it is safe to free Willy or any other poor Orca that still remains in captivity where they are treated with such depravity and have developed an unnatural hatred of humans. I believe that if released they will be free to teach the wild Orcas to take out every human they cross paths with using any means necessary. Why should they? It's not relevant to the story - just an interesting factoid. The incident has a logical explanation having nothing to do with aggression - while Tilikum's behaviors were aggressive behaviors. If the orca had bitten her arm for no reason, that would be a different story, and would be along the lines of the incidents Tilikum was involved in. Mentioning that she is Tilikum's daughter when it is not related to the story can have the effect of creating unnecessary bias against this orca, as well as distract from the fact that any aggressive behavior in these orcas is the product of the conditions in captivity - not genetics. It's not as if Tilikum's behaviors are genetic and passed down to his daughter; they were, in all likelihood, manufactured by the environment he was in.

      I mean, one of their trainers has already been killed in recent years. That same whale killed a man (who shouldn't have been in the tank). They will never be under obligation to release these orcas because there are no laws in place that force these parks to get rid of captive animals; they will only regulate the humans' behaviors towards them. The laws would need to change before that would be even remotely possibe.

    • @anyaw340
      @anyaw340 6 дней назад

      Attacks on humans is not why they are called "killer whale". They do not attack humans in the wild. The name comes from the fact that they are the top apex predators of the ocean and have no predators. However, a human swimming in the ocean can safely swim near orcas. It's these captive orcas who are distressed and stressed who can become aggressive towards humans.

    • @anyaw340
      @anyaw340 6 дней назад

      I mean, the trainer IS SeaWorld, so your comment makes absolutely no sense. Even if the trainer did not follow policy, it could give rise to questions about whether there are systemic issues at SeaWorld related to policy adherence and safety conditions. It can ALWAYS come back to SeaWorld if their employees are at fault because the employees ARE SeaWorld; that's literally how companies are held responsible for the actions of just one of their employees.

    • @anyaw340
      @anyaw340 6 дней назад
