Problem is the pavement is 'public highway' which means the troopers cannot enforce 'no access. ' Grabbing the reins however totally wrong. I think the perps should be fined £80 per grab.. with the money going to a veterans charity or similar.
How about tourist should learn how to behave and respect the sign on the wall. They are rude and if the guard should yell at every rude tourist that can't behave he would not have any voice left after an hour.
@@Pitcairn2 I don't know about Britain, but when I was in the army in 1956/1962, stationed in France. The military was authorized total control of the "pavement" /sidewalk in front of and along side the Caserne up to the roadway. The building called Whitehall is a military installation/caserne and the military should have authority to control what takes place on the pavement in front of and along side up to the road. If it has no authority to control the actions, then why are the horses aloud to protrude onto the pavement.? And who decided to paint the white lines on the pavement and for what purpose are they painted. If it is to control the tourists then the guards also have that same authority, and they should speak up due to the actual fact they are guarding the military compound of the King. Either guarding is done nor not at all. You can't have it halfway, it makes the military look like a bunch of confused kids instead of soldiers. And as far as the police go, they as well should be staying on top of the potential chaos trouble that can happen at the drop of a hat by a terrorist in that crowd. Final comment is either they are in control or they are not. No 50/50.
I just can't stand the morons that don't think the rules apply to them. It drives me crazy and I have to stop watching because I don't understand why the guards don't yell at them. Hello from Australia. A retired mounted police officer who did traffic duty on a busy intersection before it had traffic lights said his horse would sleep until about five minutes before the end of their shift.
I credit you guys that video every day for bringing more attention to the ridiculous behavior of the tourists and how the new rules are now being enforced . So happy to see that people are having to stay back,it’s pitiful that adults have to be taught proper behavior!

Shame on this guard I thought she would uphold the new rules, people have worked long and hard for these changes and these guards are allowing the horses to be harrassed and abused, they should be reported.
The UK should have a law making it a crime to grab the reigns of any horse without the rider's permission. This is basically the same as a passenger grabbing the steering wheel while someone is driving. Here in the States that would result in a reckless driving or similar charge against the passenger and has happened more than once in my state. I know that in one city I lived in we had mounted police patrolling the downtown area and one person was arrested for grabbing the reigns. It happened right in front of me as I was walking out of a shop. The guy grabbed the reigns and would not let go and the other mounted officer dismounted his horse and grabbed the guy and put him in handcuffs. I don't know what he was charged with but those officers were NOT amused.

I love watching your videos here across the pond! I was life time resident of a small tourist town and know what idiots tourists can be. It’s as a small town outside of Syracuse NY USA that sits on a lake and in summers the population doubles. Keep up the videos it’s the only way I’ll ever see London.
Just a note to tell you how much I enjoy your channel. I watch every single video you put out there. Thank You for entertaining us. Love From California ❣
Any adult tourist that touches the horse should get a free ride to the airport. And politely sent on a flight home. Being in another country is a privilege not a right.
Absolutely enthralled by the history, ceremony, and professionalism of the Royal Life Guards and others representing the UK. Still amazed that anyone would think it was acceptable to touch or grab the reins of the horse!🤨. Here in Texas one would receive much more than a “scream” if they grabbed the reins of a horseman’s mount😎 I notice the tourists from the Far East seem to be the worst of all these tourists🤨
There is no way these "guards, " were ever in the military. They actike they are afraid of their own shadows. They are definitely afraid to even speak. 😂
Forget not being allowed to shout: imagine being given a ruddy great sword and not being allowed to use it. Especially in this context. Lol, love the phone call to California.
Being a professional horseman for well over 45 years it takes educated hands to ride with a full bridle with two hands . Most of these troopers have not been riding long and having them ride with one hand with thick gloves is a challenge. 90% of the time that the horses are acting up the trooper has the curb rein too tight and the snaffle rein has no contact .
Thank you for acknowledging that skill comes with time and experience . At early twenties most of these young troopers ARE short on experience, but how else do they obtain it? The more experienced riding instructors and noncommissioned officers do not do guard duty.
@@Roheryn100 I spent some time in England showing and a couple of my friends there had boyfriends that were troopers . I had the opportunity to give them lessons for a few months and they really got good . Unfortunately I get it that that double bridle is part of traditional Tack and it’s unfortunate the day to day standing in the box couldn’t be done with just a snaffle . P.S. thanks for responding, take care
@@jeffreycurtis3146 I actually tend to agree with you about the curb rein; it’s a pity they don’t use the snaffle more. However, I’m not in their situation in public and full ceremonial uniform. I can add that I lived in London for 20 years and I’ve never seen such crowds around Whitehall as I’ve seen since the coronation. The horses and soldiers used to be treated with a great deal more respect. I taught at London saddle clubs for over a decade and even taught a few times in the indoor school at the Hyde Park barracks. My husband was ex cavalry.
@@Roheryn100 hello , yes the crowd size is a bit overwhelming. It is also very apparent that the self proclaimed budget tour guides don’t educate their guests on respectful protocol .
Private school kids in oz are generally more well behaved, I went to a private high school and we often were inflicted with weekend detention if we stepped outa line. The rules are strict, hair, uniform, make-up, n representation of the school must be adhered to.
I cant get over the amount of comments bashing the guards. These aren't children ignoring etiquette and signs. These are adults who should know better. The soldiers shouldn't have to yell at anyone.
I have not been watching for a while just returned to see the no touching the horses so happy about time.Great relief for the horses I am over the moon for them.
John great video. I will most likely never get to come to England. But your videos are always interesting. I do know one thing. If I do get to come I will have the upmost respect for the guards and horses.
The horse with the diamond on its head is awesome! So beautiful! I have some questions; What breed are the big black horses? Are they all that breed? What type of bit do they use, and what is the advantage? This sign doesn’t say “don’t touch the reins”. That’s very important. I wonder why it doesn’t say that. The guards all look so young and handsome. Any information on how they are chosen and special training? Thank you for your time and expertise. 😊
Hi, John.I'm on the west coast canada.. I just wanted to say this is the first video of yours since the new rule, I stopped watching channels speak cause it just was too frustrating. New rules or any rules will not work if the guards do not enforce them. What really upset me was with the new rules. One of the guards I think he was in the red jackets. The lifeguards a woman came up asked to touch the horse and he actually said yes. And then she's way into the white lines. And she's touching the horse. People are so upset with some of the guards, not understanding why they don't do anything and are saying they should be reprimanded. It's absolutely ridiculous. I'm going to continue to watch but we'll see.
My interpretation is that the painted box should be a guide; if someone gets slightly inside it, like the little boy did, it's not a big deal. It least it prevents the majority from walking straight up and standing next to the horse. Obviously if someone blatantly does that without even noticing the white lines, they deserve a shout. As an aside, I know they've been put there to be noticed, but personally I wish the lines were a bit more subtle i.e. perhaps grey in colour. It's just that they look like a parking restriction in bright white, and don't really suit the backdrop.
Maybe its the reason they are on foot, John. Being on these magnificent horses is a privilege that they may have to earn back after they failed to guard them last time.
I like trying to guess what the horse is thinking. Mostly, they have an expression that seems to say, "Can I eat them?" or, "Just a step closer fool, and I'm allowed to bite!"
John ,I,think that you have second sight, because you mention something and it happens.To-day it was rein pullers and there have been lots of other things.Any chance of Lottery Numbers ?
The horse who got impatient had been watching the other horse as soon as the bells started to ring. I think he wanted to go be with his friend. I used to feel like that too sometimes waiting for 3:00 so I could go home; so can understand only, I would have gotten trouble if I had had a temper fit. I don't remember his name but he looks familiar and I really like him.

I love watching your videos here across the pond! I was life time resident of a small tourist town and know what idiots tourists can be. It’s as a small town outside of Syracuse NY USA that sits on a lake and in summers the population doubles. Keep up the videos it’s the only way I’ll ever see London.
Since introducing the no touch rule the horses appear much calmer.
That was so kind of you❤ but I knew you are a kind person.
The excellent commentary make these videos so good.
The officers in charge should give specific orders to the troopers to tell the tourists to get out !
The excellent commentary make these videos such a pleasure to watch
I wonder what that tourist said to the lady trooper (10:20) as she seemed to stare at him as he was leaving.
Just a note to tell you how much I enjoy your channel. I watch every single video you put out there. Thank You for entertaining us. Love From California ❣
Respect goes to this trooper for keeping those visitors out of the box,oh John you are full of it 😂😂😂😂😂
Any adult tourist that touches the horse should get a free ride to the airport. And politely sent on a flight home. Being in another country is a privilege not a right.
Brilliantly put.
The excellent commentary makes these videos so good
Wesley college Melbourne Australia is a private coeducational school began in 1866
Wesley College in Western Australia from 1923, coed until Year 6 but high school remains boys only.
@@heatherharvey3129this is Wesley College from Melbourne 👍
@@lixiesfreckles1994 I know - established in the early 1920s here.
The horse knows what the bell means
But people STILL have to push the boundaries
The Blues & Royals are a very handsome squadron. They have magnificent horses too ❤

Oi! Bloke ferrofluid t’reins, bloody cheek 😾
Lovely video John 😊

I cant get over the amount of comments bashing the guards. These aren't children ignoring etiquette and signs. These are adults who should know better. The soldiers shouldn't have to yell at anyone.
I have not been watching for a while just returned to see the no touching the horses so happy about time.Great relief for the horses I am over the moon for them.
Excellent commentary on these videos
John great video. I will most likely never get to come to England. But your videos are always interesting. I do know one thing. If I do get to come I will have the upmost respect for the guards and horses.
The horses seem so much happier
Really enjoy your videos. Find them very relaxing and love the wonderful horses and troopers. The tourists not do much 😋
The horse with the diamond on its head is awesome! So beautiful!
I have some questions;
What breed are the big black horses?
That beautiful hourse was saying “ come on let me go get some food and rest. “
The gate is just like the grocery store entrance. People walk in and are paralyzed and gawping.
If the guards don’t say something the people will continue to disobey the rules
Maybe its the reason they are on foot, John. Being on these magnificent horses is a privilege that they may have to earn back after they failed to guard them last time.
Yep, that was the TUG, John…thanks forcreading that post!
I like trying to guess what the horse is thinking. Mostly, they have an expression that seems to say, "Can I eat them?" or, "Just a step closer fool, and I'm allowed to bite!"
over the lovely dapple greys...
Unbelievable!!! xxxx
The cameraman will signal the violator with his hand to let him out.
John ,I,think that you have second sight, because you mention something and it happens.To-day it was rein pullers and there have been lots of other things.Any chance of Lottery Numbers ?
Ok does the Ormond toy horse bit also. I love him.
Que pasa con este guardia lo peor de los últimos días mira para otro lado
The horse who got impatient had been watching the other horse as soon as the bells started to ring. I think he wanted to go be with his friend. I used to feel like that too sometimes waiting for 3:00 so I could go home; so can understand only, I would have gotten trouble if I had had a temper fit. I don't remember his name but he looks familiar and I really like him.
If the temperance been given direct orders to stop the interference from the public , they should obey them !
