All the time I was growing up and someone would ask her why she left Conflict, she'd always say it was because of me, she wanted to focus raising her son. I wouldn't say I felt guilty, but I did wonder if she had any resentment towards me. When MySpace was about I was talking to Colin Jerwood (the other singer) and mentioned her leaving to take care of me and his response was "we sacked her for not showing up to rehearsals, plus that was before my mum was even pregnant" then she denied ever saying it in the first place😂 My Dad was in a band as well, they were very short lived, around 77-79ish. They were called: The Pitiful. He was the Bass player. They have a live recording from a pub in Lewisham. ⚠️WARNING⚠️ they are pretty awful, but if you want to hear them they were on Spotify. I've got a sense that the liberty spike chick doesn't really get the depth of Steve's depression. I've had life long depression and have read a crap ton about it and have done all the therapy, meds, meditation, yoga, mantras, EMDR, IFS, and much more and in the end, I've learned to accept it instead of trying to fight it. Depression is just a part of who I am. I can somewhat lessen the sting of it with all those treatments and "cures" but have to just ride it out and endure the pain.

But it does make me think about back in the late 80s, early 90s.. did a portion of the OG punkers who came up with Amebix or GBH feel out of touch when hare-krishna acts like CRO-MAGS or Youth of Today were changing the scene? Of course the bullshit going on today, with these 'barbie-punks' is ridiculous... very different from the Wendy O Williams or even Debbie Harry of our era... These people have a vacancy sign where their brain should be.

Now it was too much work and when I got married and had kids it wasn’t in the cards anymore. But they inspired and grew the minds of millions. It’s just crazy how it all evolved. When I see rebellion fest highlights of thousands of people all wear the exact same thing, doing the punk walk lol. It’s less about any messages and more about social climbing now. I remember punk shows were not all inclusive. It was a place where outcasts and abused kids could go but outcast and abused kids had issues. There were fights and disagreements ( early 90s) but that’s also another form punk took before rancid. I imagined crass would be equivalent to Jesus throwing tables and whipping people because they monetized off the word of god. Like while we we’re gone corporate trend setters marketed an idea and Eric miclow is the product. Steve should be turning up tables. But if he’s not mad why should I be.
i couldn't have made it through high school back in 1982 without you Steve. There were very few of us and we were surrounded by Metal Heads and Jocks. You have impacted millions of us in positive ways. I learned to go my own way and avoided the flocks of sheep I was surrounded by. I passed Crass on to my kids and I'm sure they will pass on to my grand kids. I met you in Austin in 2011 and was grateful I could thank you in person and that 2011 show at Emos is one of my all time favorite shows, I had two of my sons with me and they would agree.
Well said Steve I’ve suffered since age 14 and have regularly self(ishly) medicated currently on a monitored program of prescribed ( this time ) drugs and am going ok ( I think not drinking much and holding down a job successfully) stay strong fella

I totally appreciate Steve's candid honesty about depression. Sometimes it pops out of nowhere, and you just have to ride it out. I've read a crap ton about depression and have read the entirety of the DSM and in the end, I can reduce the sting of it but I can't mentally jiu-jitsu my way out of it. I've learned to accept it instead of fight it in vain.

Old punks look funny. I'm saying this as a (turning) 60 (in 2 weeks) year old punk. My mohawk is quite barren in the middle but actually, I don't give a fuck. The absolute best thing about old punks who have played in bands most of their lives - and still do, is that they still sound mint! Steve here is a perfect example, as is Dick & the Subhumans. Just brilliant. . keep 'em coming! (I still have somewhere, a few hand written letters from Dick from the mid 80s when one by one I bought every tape they released.
Respect to Steve for giving it how He is and I wish him well. Without wanting to wade in on eggshells I personally believe there is a condition that I'd best describe as being "limelight addiction". To spend the vast majority of Your life on stage performing in front of large appreciative audiences and the euphoric buzz that gets offered up from that is a big deal and there's a point where it has to be let go of. I'm also now in My sixties and harbouring thoughts of (if You'll pardon the pun) where next Columbus? At the end of the day We have to forgive ourselves for only being human.

Not really. I've made as much peace with what happened as much as I can and am moving forward from it. Bands still play that festival and when I ask them what they have coming up, it comes up. It would be childish to still be salty to the point of "no mention of it" so many years later.

I was today years old when i learned Beki Straughan was in Steve's band.(Hubby Steve currently UK SUBS guitarist) ,both been part of the Sunderland/North east punk scene for ever.😮.I don't agree with the O2 gigs personally,so many other venues to play,its an on odd fit to slag The Clash for CBS from such venues imo.Sad to hear Steve suffers from depression,when he's brought so much enjoyment to others...if you can call being told how shit the word is as enjoyment.

Not really. I've made as much peace with what happened as much as I can and am moving forward from it. Bands still play that festival and when I ask them what they have coming up, it comes up. It would be childish to still be salty to the point of "no mention of it" so many years later.

I was today years old when i learned Beki Straughan was in Steve's band.(Hubby Steve currently UK SUBS guitarist) ,both been part of the Sunderland/North east punk scene for ever.😮.I don't agree with the O2 gigs personally,so many other venues to play,its an on odd fit to slag The Clash for CBS from such venues imo.Sad to hear Steve suffers from depression,when he's brought so much enjoyment to others...if you can call being told how shit the word is as enjoyment.

Punk is DEAD. From what I've heard, Steve Doesn't practice what he preaches. Shame too, since I've been a Crass fan since 1979 (YES, I'M OLD!) The music and the ideas expressed are still good, though.
