How I Made 2 leather Tote Bags: a step-by-step tutorial

  • I made 2 leather tote bags this weekend and this is how I did it. Please note: I am not a professional leather craftsman, just a hobbyist and I learned everything from RUclips.
Not shown in this video is the final application of Tandy's professional red edge paint to all raw cut-edges of the leather bag, including the leather-wrapped handles, using a dauber. This gives the bags a very pleasant finished look. I did not have the red edge paint available when I made this video.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Very entertaining, and informative.
    Best lines from this:
"I don't sell these; these are priceless"
"As long as my wife and daughter are not ashamed to wear them, I'll keep making them."
    Outstanding!

I enjoyed watching very much. I tried before a quick one on sewing machine. Dumb foot pushed one piece of leather so mine is crooked so bad. Yours look very good and professional...you have good good patience for making and stitching all the holes by hand.. Your wife and daughters should be very very proud to carry them and they are nice size for all a womans stuff we carry with us.

Oh so beautiful and simple. And we pay a lot of money for such bags in stores. Is leather expensive? I like very much the tanned leather, it is the best leather in the world, it may last more than 20 years and it always looks amazing, especially that brown ones. Thanx for sharing. I have 2 pieces of leather from a bag i didn`t like so i want to make a small bag because the pieces are not big, maybe i`ll try your technique.

Dennis Tilley Thank you for your interest but sorry, everything was done "ad lib" when I made these bags. The temporary pattern that I used in this video was cut by just eye-balling to the approximate size that I wanted. There was no exact measurements taken. The temporary pattern is long lost.
