My Dad used to buy equal parts of burley and Latakia tobacco, mix them, and smoke that in his pipe. The pipe was part of a long but effective way to quit smoking; I think he smoked a pipe for a decade or so after quitting his usual Camels, then stopped smoking. He died aged 95.
It's interesting that Jimmy doesn't perceive Ouija boards as dangerous. Every single exorcist I've listened to has warned against using them in pretty vigorous terms.
I played with an ouija board, tarot cards, manifestation etc and my house became infested and had a demonic attachment. The family member who originally owned the board also had an infested house. Me and my mom saw a black figure in the house and then other family members who visited and stayed there had similar experiences. It was terrifying and as I entered back into the faith things intensified. Thankfully, by gods grace, things are well now! I would not mess with anything occultist, even things like remote viewing that have been normalized inside of parapsychology circles. I normally like jimmys reasonable approach to things, but with spiritual matters I disagree with him. He seems too lenient on occult practices.
Listen more carefully. He doesn't see them as _exceptionally_ dangerous compared to other things like mediums and seances. He still views them all as potentially dangerous and recommends avoiding them. Most of the time, nothing bad happens, which is worth admitting. That was the case with the board my parents bought me. Would I buy one for my kids? Hell no. You don't take chances with stuff like that.
I dont think he was dismissing them he was just trying to strike a balanced view on what 'most likely' happens 99% of the time. In saying that, best to keep clear of them imo. Little did i know the others had removed their hands after a short time and unconsciously while not looking at the board I spelled out 'Birds' - how weird is that? :)

Since Jimmy brought up fictional accounts for angelic possession I'm surprised he didn't mention Lewis's That Hideous Strength. He gives probably the best exploration of angelic possession in the end game of that book that I've ever seen.
I thought the same thing. Just read those a couple of months ago. I really enjoyed them. Plus what about mysterious "super human" strengths during car accidents, burning buildings, etc. Since I was a little kid, I always imagined that it was Angels helping people to lift cars/heavy objects off of others, to break free from wrongful imprisonments, etc. It could be possible, God Willing, that temporary Angelic possession accounts for these events ( whereas its often chalked up to an adrenaline surge)
Chesterton used a planchette in his youth and wrote something to this effect about using them: I don’t know what causes these to produce messages, but I know this: it tells lies.
On pipe tobacco: It is indeed difficult to buy fresh commercial pouches or tins in stores now. We have a store in Butler Pennsylvania that does maintain and sell commercial tobacco. I buy Five Brothers. A shag cut from Denmark. Only $6 a pouch and nice. Light and not sweet. A very traditional Dutch blend. One tends to find a favorite but that can take time. Two years a pipe smoker and it keeps me off cigarettes finally. I often think of Saint/Father Damian. A saint I often pray to. We are a small sector of the populace nowadays.
I just learnd about a fascinating mistery that would make a great episode: The death of Alexander the geat (the cause of death is very diouted) and the location of his remains (he was in a urn full of honey or so I heard)… love to hear what Jimmy has to say about that.
Good angelic possession reminds me of those cheese movies Angels in the Outfield. Although I guess that would be more like angelic manipulation (i.e., making people jump higher to catch a pop fly).
There are numerous cases of people able to display supernatural strength or power to save otter people. For instance when a mother is able to lift cars lift a car to save their child stuck underneath. This could be a sign of angelic possession in cases of danger.
This topic of whether or not it is possible for angels to possess humans is interesting. I've wondered if a person could have "the spirit of" an angel upon them, if that makes any sense at all. That's the best way I can describe my thought/question on this. It is only recently that I've wondered about this, because we gained an employee at work last December who has turned out to be a protector of sorts. He seems to always be in the right place at the right time, and has literally saved my life and the life of a toddler who somehow got out of her house while her dad was passed out, and would have frozen to death had this employee not found her. He has kept me from coming to harm on more than one occasion, and so I started to jokingly (only half joking) call him my guardian angel. His name is Michael, and his spirit seems to be so pure... again, not sure how else to describe it. Could it be that he is guided by the archangel Michael?
Pipe tobacco aye? Alright, Mr. Akins, boots 👢👢 and socks 🧦 off now. Hobbit inspection time! You just might be a Harfoot with Harfeet! Or, that might be a Harfoot with hair feet!
My theory is that King Arthur is a strick legend but his father Uthar Pendragon was based on a real man. Possibly a Roman General. There are several possibilities for this. I'm afraid my research was done years ago and I don't have those books any more but history does points to this.
As faithful Catholics, we need to firmly understand that everything that happens in our world is by the will of God. That includes bad things like possession. Angels create their own bodies if the need arise and they are much more powerful than us when they do, so why do they need to bother with possession? The fallen, on the other hand have many more limitations. The Holy Bible, and Exorcists like Father Ripberger and Father’s Martin are more exact sources on this topic.
With Mary and Martha (or Mary and Mary as this theory would have us believe), could it be that while they are referred to as sisters they actually have a different relationship like cousins? Christ and James are referred to as brothers but we don't take this literally.
Don Beveridge who was a popular speaker for talks about various issues in running a business and who died recently, confined himself to: Donna, Don, Diane, Dirk, Debbie, and Dawn.
I think Jimmy ought not downplay occult activities like ouija boards as being no big deal, if for no other reason than Scripture expressly forbids necromancy. It’s like saying, “I don’t RECOMMEND worshiping idols, but most idol worshipers don’t become possessed, so we shouldn’t get too worked up about it.”
Possession also is not the only thing to be worried about. I played with an ouija board, tarot cards, manifestation etc and my house became infested and had a demonic attachment. It was terrifying and as I entered back into the faith things intensified. Thankfully, by gods grace, things are well now! I would not mess with anything occultist, even things like remote viewing that have been normalized inside of parapsychology circles.

The Church also says it’s a mortal sin in many examination of conscience guides to use a Ouija board. Stuff like this that Jimmy says really makes me scratch my head.
@@bethanyann1060 I don't think the Church has an official examination of conscience, though the Catechism serves that purpose. The intention matters though. Fooling around with a Ouija board may not be a mortal sin if one is not trying to summon the demonic or divine the future, I think. Think of what mortal sin requires; many do not have full knowledge of the gravity/danger. As Catholic prayer tradition indicates, one-way communication with the dead in itself is not necessarily sinful or guaranteed; the intention behind such communication matters. Two-way communication though is tricky and must be tested. Test the spirits.
How would it be possible for an angel that beholds the beatific vision to possess a human? I would think the human person would not be capable of handling that sort of possession.
In fairness to the Church, if they have no idea or concept of "psychic impressions" or other such phenomenon, then of course they won't have an answer for it and thus, no contradiction exists. Same for other new and emerging science and discoveries.
Two possible angelic possessions in the Bible: Acts 16:16 One day, as we were going to the place of prayer, we met a slave-girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners a great deal of money by fortune-telling. 17 While she followed Paul and us, she would cry out, ‘These men are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to you[d] a way of salvation.’ 18 She kept doing this for many days. But Paul, very much annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, ‘I order you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.’ And it came out that very hour. If we accept that there's a definitive dichothomy between angels who are wholly good, and demons who are wholly evil, then this is an angel. Angelic possession shows some parallelism to demonic possession: preternatural knowlege and uncontrollable utterences. The second possible example is Raphael in the book of Tobit. If we assume he can't lie, then he in a certain sense really was Azariah son of Hananiah because he presented himself as such. We know that's not just a case of angels having two names and a father (which would be weird), because Raphael specifies "one of your relatives". So if Raphael indwelled in Azariah with the consent of both, then they could have worked together. In much the same way some exorcists report some demons giving some gifts to the people they torment so that they don't seek help, there seems to be a difference between torment and possession, it may be the same thing here. Neither of those examples is water tight, but I think that they could be events worth bringing up. I do see a tension between my interpretation of Tobit and the end of chapter 12, because in english it says in verse 19 "Although you were watching me, I really did not eat or drink anything-but what you saw was a vision.", but I am not too confident that's a good translation because the italian translation I use (done by the conference of italian bishops) is "ciò che vedevate era solo apparenza.", which means "but it only appeared to be so", in other words it is a much vaguer meaning than the english. i don't know which translation is better, but if the italian one is accurate, it could be said that in chapter 12 Raphael appears to Tobit as an angel, and he really didn't eat, it was Azariah, in which Raphael had been indwelling, that ate.
@@markiangooley Well, Paul seems to have recited an exorcism on the girl so i'd say some spirit really was involved. Now either this sprit is an angel, a demon, or something else. If it is an angel, it's hard to guess why he would do such a thing, maybe he didn't want to and the slave girl was used against her will as a vessel for the angel. If it's a demon, I would have guessed that Paul would not have waited to get annoyed to help the girl. If it's a third thing, then it's kind of a bummer divine revelation doesn't tell us more about its kind.

That sort of logic only holds if it actually intended though. It is more like an emergent property of the nature of the game. It leads naturally to the concept that an unknown force is involved.
