On a fully loaded pmag, the dust cover further helps protect the thin plastic edge, which is essential to feeding the rounds, which is the part most common with failures of the Gen2. This is the primary reason why you should use them, besides protection from dust.

Deep stir maybe. Ready to fight? No way.

Long term storage dust covers makes sense. Do you need to store all mags with covers not really but it does protect investment. Can always leave your go to mags without if your looking for ready mags.

I purchased dust covers on amazon, and i always thought the Gen 3 and Gen 2 were different, Gen 3 covers wont fit Gen 2 mags. However the Covers i purchased on amazon will fit both Gen2 and Gen 3 and seem to work fine, they do fit slightly tighter on the Gen 3 mags tho..

Yeah Magpul always claimed they were same but from my experience that has not been the case. Been awhile but I recall trying a different Gen dust cover and seeing tolerance issues in fitment.
