2022 Sienna Trim Comparison: And why it's a better value than the Highlander Hybrid

- This is a comparison video that dives into the main differences of the 6 trim level options of the 2022 Toyota Sienna minivan (LE, XLE, XSE, Woodland Edition, Limited, and Platinum), including the AWD variants, and which ones I recommend.
Great video - before this video I would have gone with the XSE but now think I’ll go with the XLE. Thank you.
Man, this is what I've been looking for. Great summary and analysis ! It's really helpful for my next car purchase !
These things are best for car camping.....
Not really in the market for other cars, but I enjoy watching your trim breakdown videos! Keep up the good work!
That's really nice of you to say--thanks!
Very helpful video, thank you. I needed a video like this to break down the trim levels as simple as possible.
Honestly the power tailgate, parking sensors, four zone climate control are all extremely useful in a family setting. To me it’s not worth the $5k but you have to get those features.
Just got on a waiting list for a new van. The Toyota dealership basically said you get what you get as far a trim. You can pass on what they get in and wait for the next one but was told it would be about a year before our name comes up. Other dealerships in the area are charging 7k over msrp for any trim level but you can get one in a few months.
I live in Ventura county Southern CA. We have 3 dealerships around within 1-25 miles. I can get one from any of the three within 1-2months. The first dealership wants $8Kmark-up plus $2K dealer add-on. The second dealership wants $8Kmark-up , no dealer add-on. The third dealership wants $7.5Kmark-up, no dealer add-on. All three wants $500 deposit.
I called lots of dealerships, upto 500mile radius.
The best one I was able to find if I really want it soon was 60 mile away. This dealership has ZERO mark-up, but with $6K dealer add-on. The dealer does not give any time line, all I was told was, "you'd be surprise" . NO deposit. So I put my name in the list. I received a call within three weeks, but that did not go through. I Decided to wait again. I received another call after 2weeks. They had me choose from 4 different ones. I chose the VIN# with the LE trim, FWD, 8 seater. Just waiting for it to arrive, possibly within 2-3 weeks.
@@mc333777 how much did you pay for LE?
@@sajithmenon85 I have not gotten my Sienna LE. IF I get it, it will be $46K MSRP plus $6K dealer add-ons. I was told that van will arrive 2nd week of December, and I verified that by checking the VIN#. Hopefully, they don't sell it to other customer. I am not 100% that the van has been assigned to me, because the prior one that I am supposed to get, they sold it to someone. They called me while I was driving on the freeway on the way to the dealership to sign paper works when my phone rung letting me know that they just sold it.
Best car reviewer ever!
By the way! Great informative video for new Sienna buyers out there!
Nice breakdown, always seen the sienna as a great value but never thought the base LE was that much of a better value than the rest.
Yes, it was definitely a bit of a surprise to me too!
@@drivetorun4172 I'm considering buying one for rideshare (uber/lyft) even if it losses half its value in a year (which I don't expect, is a toyota) I'd still be making money
Considering the Sienna won KBB’s best resale value for minivans in 2021, I think you’ll be good! They projected that it would retain ~45% of its value after FIVE years. Granted, driving for Uber/Lyft means that you’ll be putting on more mileage than the average driver, but I think you’ll still come out just fine!
@@drivetorun4172 yeah I just saw a 2021 with 45k miles going for msrp of 2022 brand new. Granted this is not a normal market.
Yes, I would guess barring some crazy shift in geopolitical conditions (which could always happen...), I think it'll be 2-3 years before the used market becomes more reasonable again. New car supply has to recover first, and then get through at least one round of lease returns to restock the used market.
High value content. Very much appreciated.
You have a great analysis and conclusions. Well done. This is a very helpful review!
Awesome video!! Exactly what I was looking for
Great breakdown. I would love to save a few thousand by getting the LE, however I really like the way the captain chairs that are present on the XLE and above models slide 25 inches to make more room. Do you know how far the bucket seats slide in the LE and any other differences in the seat configuration and comfort? Thanks!
Also, it’s really easy to find the Sienna, Highlander Hybrids are really hard to come by right now. With that said, no markup on Highlanders and about $1500 markup on the Siennas at my dealer.
Really helpful video, well done. thank you
Hello my friend. My name is Michael and I just finished watching your show about which trim of the Sienna to get. I live here in Minnesota and there’s a lot of snow here and freaking cold in the winter time. I’m still debating and confuse which trim to get. I’m sure wanting a minivan like the Sienna but if you’re in my place which trim would you go for. Thx in advance!!
Are you saying that there really is no difference between the XSE, with the sport tuned suspension
and the other models when it comes to ride comfort?
Great information, But my dealer is charging $44,500 plus tax and after tax 48,500 for Toyota Sienna LE coming in 7weeks, I guess my question is should I buy the Le or wait for XLE? I think this price is on the high size.
Do I get the cooler/fridge in the lower trim? I think that’s a nice feature..,I do want the cooled seats and ottomans. Best review so far, and I’ve checked a few. Highlander has dynamic torque vectoring in trims XLE and above.
Pretty informative video. Appreciate the efforts. Quick Question: Is there a way to get the fully loaded XLE trim and special order it to include the OEM navigation (as you have mentioned in your video nav is only available in XSE and above trims)? TIA. ✌
We ordered the 2022 XLE AWD and with the XLE Plus package, it comes with navigation and the JBL 12 speaker stereo system. I'm not sure how much we will use the factory nav, as we like using Waze from our phone by way of Android Auto.
Love the breakdown! Any chance of doing a similar one for the Pacifica?
Can you do trim comparison for 2023
Just what I’ve been looking for, sort of. Because of the standard moonroof in all but the LE I’m getting frustrated about the add ons that are available. Besides the spare tire I’d love to have a rear lift gate and better passenger seat adjustments. Heated steering wheel would be nice too. The absences of a spare tire is a deal breaker as is having a moonroof. Is there somewhere I can find all the add ons that are available on the LE?
Just buy your own spare tire, they’re not expensive.
@@smrtguy77777 And where do I store it, the deck space has a wheelchair etc on it.
@@Reed-2big Every trim has the spare tire available but if you have the ottomans in the upper trims it deletes the spare for some reason.
@@smrtguy77777 I still can’t find them as no one is ordering them. And, no one really wants a special order right now either. Atm, I’m not positive I can clear the headspace either, so I really shouldn’t have to order one to find that out. Because the high trim packages have moonroofs that’s what the dealers were ordering.
I think electric may delete the ottomans! It’s interesting that if you put your feet up in a vehicle you never get a flat tire! I wish I’d known that earlier!
I am looking at a 2020 BraunAbility Conversion wheelchair accessible Toyota Sienna XLE with 29,000 miles on it. It is a side-entry Someone would be driving it for me and I would remain in my Permobil F5 VS wheelchair. The sticker price is $71,991 is that a good price or is there some room to negotiate. My chair ways 425lbs and I way 125lbs and I 5' 3" tall when standing in my chair. Would the rear shocks need to be re-enforced? I had a 2018 Honda Pilot that was wheelchair accessible for VMI and it was a disaster. I recently sold it back to where I bought it from. I should have gone with Toyota in the first place. This was a great video. I look forward to getting your response. Thanks so much!
We're comparing the highlander and sienna now, leaning more to the highlander has we need the ground clearance and the 2" tow receiver vs the 1 1/4 receiver. The woodland sienna looks promising, but no dealer around here has one we can look at here in Ontario, we're not sure how the towing receiver is mounted, if its the same as the XLE Sienna than we have the same issue with bike racks etc. hitting the ground when we go up a hill.
Woodland edition is US only (and limited production numbers too). We don't get it at all in Canada. No Platinum in Canada either. Pretty sure the tow hitch mounts the same an all trim levels, and I have certainly seen claims that it is quite low to the ground and can be a problem with steep drive ways and such. I am still waiting for delivery on my 2023 Sienna XSE AWD (currently estimating June 2023).
You can find a 2in adapter on Amazon
Please do on on the 25th anniversary model!
WOW, WOW, WOW with a Capital W.

And I love the Toyota Sienna MiniVan as the ULTIMATE 3-bench Supreme Family and Cargo Hauler👌
I love, love, the Superbly Analyzed video that you have so detailedly and valuably in this video trim comparison, not to mention the Extra Credit on how the 2022 Sienna Hybrid is a Much, Much, better VALUE and FUNCTIONAL CHOICE than the 2022 HighLander Hybrid.
I absolutely 1,000% agree with the Tremendous Recommendation of getting the 2022 Toyota Sienna Hybrid out of the 6 Sienna Trims (and over all 2022 Toyota HighLander Hybrid TrimS) 👏👏👏 Save the thousan$ and get the after-market Roof Rack And Tow Hitch.

This is exactly Why Toyota became the number 1 car manufacturer of the World 👏
Wow wow wow😎
We are in the market for sienna or Highlander 2023. We await release info. We may buy Lexus gs350 instead.
also, what other LE packages would you suggest to get? and accessories? thanks!
So what’s better? Order one? Or buy one in the lot? I’m on the market right now and they are really high with lots of miles? I have never order one before but I want to buy a new one
I own 22 XLE in 8 passenger configuration. XSE doesnt have 8 passenger option for sure. And I dont know about others
Brilliant, thanks
Well done. Thank you.
We need about 4Runner choices too
why in platinum with with AWD, it only gets 18' wheel, can I ask the dealer to change it to 20 inch, it will certainly looks a lot better
And tires will cost more, the ride will be worse, the rims more likely to get damaged. I certainly would not want 20" rims. A friend bought a Tesla 3 and opted for the 20" rims at quite a bit more cost (it also comes with larger brakes and hence you can't even switch to smaller rims anymore). They sure regret it. They have had multiple rims replaced already due to damage because there is so little rubber between the road and the rim.
LE doesn’t have a power liftgate?
I have the LE FWD and I am a little upset I don't have a power liftgate.
We stepped up to the XLE. It has a bunch more equipment than the LE. We looked at the LE, but wasn't satisfied with how stripped down it was.
@@jimronchetto8592 how much was your xle?
@@trile6460 I paid MSRP with no mark-up. I believe it was about $47K for the AWD XLE Plus with spare tire. It's awesome! We are getting 33mpg combined driving with only 1,000 miles so far
Why don’t they make an 8 seater on any other option but le
Cornering headlight on any of the trims?
No, according to the literature I have at my disposal, adaptive headlights aren't offered on any Sienna trim. Thanks for asking!
Why not add the videos of those things you've narrated thanks.
LE awd all the way!
LE is the best choice for a van. The rest is a waist of money.
It's a joke that Toyota only offers 8 passenger with AWD in the LE trim. If they offered that in a higher trim we would very likely buy one. We are going to end up with a Subaru Ascent instead most likely.
The ascent has I seats?
@@occckid123 yeah, 8 seats in every trim but not the onyx or touring trims. The limited trim is one below the top trim (touring) and it has 8 seats.
@@slandshark do you need your family to be comfortable or be squeezed in the subaru? How many people do you usually carry?
@@occckid123 Comparing the highlander to the Subaru Ascent, the ascent has more space and cargo room compared to the highlander.
We need 6 seats minimum. Since we have 4 child seats, we really need 7 seats minimum and the 8th in order to take at one extra passenger.
We have a chrysler pacifica hybrid right now with 7 seats. The 8 seater subaru ascent gives us more room, since we can have half the 3rd row down and still fit 6 people in. With our minivan, with 6 people you can't fold any part of the 3rd row, so are always restricted to using the space behind the third row...less usable storage compared to the ascent (or even the highlander 8 seater).
@@slandshark so just get a base sienna and enjoy the gas mileage and ease of use carrying 8 passengers that the subaru won't be anywhere near as comfortable. It can't take 8 people of luggage but the sienna can
Here's the main list of cons and why It might be better to go for another Company or wait for them to fix the cons on this list which is possible since Toyota is a good company and really does try to listen to complaints hence the reason for this Comment.
1. Rear windshield wiper on the bottom should be tucked away on top like in the previous model.
2. While it's great that they offer an integrated Nav, sys, the fact that it's not indented into the dashboard makes it difficult to see when driving and it's sunny outside
3. Put monitors behind the headrest instead of 1 big monitor in the middle or at least offer the Navigation sys without the TV monitor Included so customers can purchase aftermarket screens like on the Chrysler Pacifica.
4. Middle seats not design to be removable. My suggestion make the rear seats removable and make the middle row able to slide all the way back into the position where the rear seats go into for a larger cargo area
5. If it's not technically possible at this point to offer a V6 then offer a V5 Model to give it a bit more power since the V4 struggles up hills when it's fully occupied with average large and heavy families like in America.
6. Offer a model that would be good for TAXI or Private car service drivers etc.. since they are also consumers and offer a fully black interior for Customers purchasing the vehicles for commercial use.
7. Offer the stitching in red or at least black instead of an orange color that doesn't match with most things.
lol' I would add an 8, 9 & 10 but that's enough for now...
Great content but the sound quality is terribly annoying. Invest in a better mic
As long as it has power sliding doors, I'm good
Not a good review. You only include a base level of knowledge for each trim which you can easily gain just from doing some research on the Toyota website. There are a multitude of nuances that you fail to grasp. 👎
The XSE looks like a Lexus that is why it cost so much
