Connected the TRS cables from my drum triggers to a female TRS to dual TRS male Y cable splitting the MIDI signal between two brains allowing me to use one brain for drum samples and the other one for sending midi signal to keys for more drums, percussion or synths - no computer required and perfect for performing live - but you can add that as well if you like.
Stumbled on this video and I just have to say, it's so cool to see someone doing something similar to what I'm doing whilst also offering more options I hadn't thought of. Basically what I did was Frankenstein an electric kit using a combination of pintech, roland and yamaha pads/cymbals and plug them into 2 different brains to suit the sounds I want. I use 2 lower end modules - dtxpress 3 and a td4. I use each of the modules outputs and go direct into a zoom h4 and record quickly from there. When going for a more sculpted sound I plug into an M-box 2 and tweak in the DAW on my pc. Definitely looking to experiment with midi options, especially using a midi controller into a module for late night drum machine style writing. Figure it would be a great alternative to using the step sequencer on fruity loops.
I used two 3.5 mm ground loop isolator and a 3.5 y-audio cable with two male ends to connect the two modules to my bose headphones. It totally works and I can select two different kits that compliment each other or add a different sound. I just couldn't see spending hundreds of dollars on drum software that may not accommodate my 18 piece set. $20 fix
Nice video. I have two modules and would like to be able to switch between them depending on the sound I'm wanting. Can I just split the pad/cymbal cable and have them feed both modules at the same time, then just turn on/off each module to switch between?
Running 2 alesis (command & surge) through a mixer (Harbinger LV8) to an alesis speaker (12) with akg headphones. Great times and fun so far. Sounds the best I think, haven't tapped into software yet.
Thanks for this info. I recently upgraded from TD-8 to TD-27! 25 years playing the TD-8 and what an upgrade. But things don't seem as good as they should with TD-27. I tried splitters to increase amount of pads and don't think my kit works correctly or the splitters just don't work. Also, the TD-27 does not have more than three programmed beats to play along to as the TD-8 has HUNDREDS! WTF? shame on Roland! So I've decided to keep my old TD-8 and hook it up to the TD-27 and use together. I like your idea about the mixer which I used for the TD-8 many years to play music and mix to speakers for live performances. Now adding another drum machine/kit to the ensemble is going to be great. Thanks for your video! Hope this helps others with same prob and wonder if others had probs with splitters on TD-27.
Great topic! I'm going to be trying something a little different. I currently have a TD-9 and also have a TD-15 on the way. I found a 25-pin serial Y-splitter ribbon cable for $6 on eBay that will allow me to plug both modules into one cable snake. I should be able to easily switch between modules by powering them up one at at time. My main goal is to see if I can run both modules at the same time and mix the outputs for a layering effect.
Yeah, what happened ? Curious to know. I have the TD27 but I want some of the cheesy fun stuff on the TD6 or TD10, that when you hit the kick drum it plays a bass line... Etc...LOL I'm wondering if I can hook the TD6 up to the TD27, and get all of the TD6 fun sounds ?!?!?!? I dont have any "fun" older modules yet, I'm just using the TD6 as an example. I never messed around with midi or anything, and I don't want to do anything dumb that will destroy my module. Worked my buns off to get what I have, so I don't want to do anything I'm unfamiliar with... Thanks ! 😁👍
So is it possible to use a second module (TM-2) just to expand trigger pads and have them trigger sounds from my TM-6 by connecting the two modules with a midi cable?
hey 65 Drums! Love the videos and I've been going through them. I have a TD-9 that I bought new about 7-8 years ago. I really love it--with one typical exception. I would like to further expand my electronic kit -- and I want to ensure I can smartly record with pushing midi data into a computer. I'd love your view (or a video) as to what the options are new/used, and whether one can/should even consider different manufacturers. Originally, I thought I would buy a used TD-25 (Jul-2018 that would be about $1,500 used) and then make the td-25 module the master and the td-9 the slave. I think the td-9 has about 9 inputs and the td-25 probably another 9-10; that would allow me to get to something close to my ideal kit (kick, snare, three rack toms, and two floor toms [7 piece] and then something like 11 cymbals (two hi hats, ride, three crash, 1 china, two splashes, and then 1-2 percussion points (cowbell, woodblock etc). So, I think for an ideal recording kit I'd need 18 inputs/outputs via midi. I'd like to be able to capture all of the sounds in a live recording environment sending midi out to a laptop. While I'd love to be able to play out with the set (something I hardly ever do anyhow) - I'm flexible enough to play my acoustic drums live as needed. Should I, instead, just buy the TD-30, call it the master, and pull my td-9 triggers as a slave through it out to the laptop? latency issues? Love to see this video! thanks. Craig.
I teach drums using two Yamaha ekits. The student and I need to hear one another AND both hear the music coming from my desktop Mac. Oh, and also hearing the entire mix through a P.A. Currently I'm using a mixer and it kinda works but I'm hearing one kit twice: through the module and through the Aux/In coming from the mixer. Anyhoo, I must be able to get a cleaner set up!
I have 2 yamaha dtxplorer kits i linked together just with the L/R output to aux in but i never thought about a small mixer to link them especially because im considering adding a 3rd kit haha so far its cost me less than $150 for mine i play metal mainly so i have 6 cymbals 1 hat and control 4 toms 1 snare 2 single kicks and a because its fun 1 conga and 1 bongo but i need more cymbals and some octobans maybe another tom or something fun
Hey Justin ! by now I guess Iv's studied most of your vids, as I wanna expand my studio soon and have more E drums and gear, so tnx for everything you are my "go to" guy! Can I hook up a simple module like the Roland tm2 to a midi expander of any sort to expand the trigger inputs? and still be using the Roland sounds? I'm trying to bulid another hybrid setup (in the first one I'm using tm6pro) and really wanna keep it on a budget this time. Tnx !
I've been doing research about adding a second drum module. I'm currently using a TD-12 and was looking to add a TD-9, because every where I look it seems to have the best sounds. So my question is what is your opinion of this combo, and which to use as a slave? My plan is to go the MIDI route, but probably test all the options.
This video is very helpful thnx Justin.. I was looking for ways to connect my DM10 on a Roland module so I can get access to that sweet vh-10/11 or perhaps the ATV hihats...Now which one zhould I get... The cheaper td-9 or the new td-17
Thanks Justin for this vid. is it possible to hook both modules up, then when I play a tune (once), I can then listen the results from 2 different modules (individually not mixed). Hope I making sense.. Cheers. God Bless.
With the 1st method I have a small interface with my edrums , will I be able to hear the sound from the other module once I hook it up to the laptop? I’m using ez drummer 3 , I also have my headphone plugged up to my interface
Is there a way to handle crosstalk between 2 modules using ezdrummer 3? I am using a TD-17 as my "main" module and an old simmons SD600 for extra pads and cymbals . both plugged into the laptop. when i hit a cymbal on the sd600 it triggers a tom on the roland. any suggestions?
awesome video bro... need some help how can I connect 2 module through a mixer to the interface and then to studio drummer in native instruments via logic ?
Very informative clip, thanks. I have the older heavier model TrapKat I really like the sturdiness of it as well as the feel of the pads. I have had it in storage for years and just got it up again. Can anyone tell me where I can get info on using it with a yamaha motif es sound module rack? I'm a good percussionist old school but I'm so technically challenged 🤪 it's sad. I'm lost trying to get the communication going between my Motif rack and my trapkat. Thanks
Wow, excellent video. I want to connect both my TD-6V & 'new' TD-9 v2 to my drums. Can it be done by wire using stereo splitters? Split the trigger signal right at the instrument (drum/cymbal) and run one side of the split signal to one module and the other to the other module. Is it possible do you imagine - or would there be too much signal degradation? Thanks, subbed.
Hey, quick question! I want to plug a Yamaha DTX PRO module into a Yamaha DTX 900 module via Midi in and Midi Out. I basically want the DTX 900 to be the slave, and the DTX PRO to be the master. My goal is to bypass all of the DTX 900 sounds completely, and have both modules be only the sounds of the DTX PRO module. Basically I want to create a huge DTX PRO module. Will I be able to do that? If so, are there any specific settings I would need to change within both modules in order to accomplish this? Thanks! :)
Justin great channel 👍 building a big hybrid kit so I need a few outputs so I'm thinking of combine 2 modules,i have a Alesi dm 10 and a good deal on a td9,are they a good match and how would you combine them, don't use computer and programs and what mixer would you recommend? Regards from 🇸🇪/cliff
Not using MIDI, I would like to use a Roland TD17 along side my older TD6 as an alternative rather than an as an input extender as I prefer most of the sounds on my older module. How do I do this? (Are stereo Y-connectors the answer, plugging in to each module so that it accepts both cable/snake inputs?). Thanks.
Will this method work if I just want to use the bass and snare from one drum module and then everything else through my Korg complete control for finger drumming?
Hey man! Loving the videos, and learning a lot along the way. About to order the TD-17kvx. My first drumset... ever, haha. I'm already digging in to the possibilities of expanding once I get better. Specifically if I wanted to get a SPD-30 octopad down the road. I'm assuming I can use the master audio out from the octapad to the "Mix In" of the TD-17 module, making the TD-17 the slave. Would that work?
I expanded my Roland electronic setup with 4 Yamaha cymbals and the Yamaha module then connected them AUDIO ONLY using the mix input in the TD10. Its been great for practising but now I want to record my setup in my laptop. I would like to know which Toontrack software can read MIDI from both my Yamaha dtx502 and my Roland TD10 at the same time. The modules will be connected separately as they cannot be chained together. I have Ezdrummer 1 with DFH but it does not work with more than one drum module at the same time. I tried just the Yamaha at first and I hit a brick wall with Midi mapping cos Ive got cymbals plugged into the snare and hihat ports on the yamaha. Midimapping in ezdrummer 1 is not possible and I cannot seem to find the midi notes in the module to match instruments in ezdrummer. I wish to upgrade to ezdrummer3 or superior drummer 2 crossgrade as I cannot afford superior drummer3. Any ideas ?
I kind of wish you would’ve went more in depth on the two modules into a computer using like EZdrummer or something. I’m still trying to get two modules to work on my iMac. I need more inputs. That’s why I need to modules using EZdrummer 3. Great video though!
Hi Great content. What is the best way to link three units. I have a DM10 kit, a D-Drum module and an alesis multi pad. Want to link them all into my laptop and use them to trigger Ableton live. Help!!!!!
Hey there....i was hoping u cpuld maybe help me out!! i have a td 50 and i want to run two kd 140s but im out of inputs... what is the best way for me to achieve this without having triggering issues like using splitters?
Thanks dude, you answered all my questions. I have an Alesis Surge Mesh kit and I'm thinking of buying another Alesis Surge module and going the "audio" route into a mixer then into either headphones or my Alesis Strike Drum Amp. I really like the Surge Mesh kit and I already added the extra tom and cymbal. I need more ports because I want a Cow Bell! Lol!
I'm doing the same as well but with 2 alesis surge kits and I was having a hard time getting them set up in reaper for ssd5. Figured that out and now I'm trying to connect the 2 together and cant figure it out yet. I'm not sure if it's because they're both the same module and on the same channel or what but I'm not having any luck. Have you added your module yet? I want midi so I can edit it all via midi notes vs audio but I duno what to do haha
Also, midi from one surge to the other seems to conflict or I cant figure it out cause when I plug them up it triggers and you can hear all the drums but I cant seem to edit the midi note on the slave module so I can change the sounds cause the snake plug already assigns the cords...
Hello, I have an Alesis Surge drum kit with module and a cheap other (2nd) module, I have tried to link the 2 modules together via the audio way, but I only hear the Alesis sounds through the pads...how can I trigger the cheap module with the Alesis drum kit ?
If I go audio mix from a td27 (out L/R mono) to a td 30 (mix in single stereo) will I still get the digital benefits from the td27 digital snare and 18" digital ride? I have a bunch of stuff now including the ATV China and FX so I run an extra TD6V. I would like the digital effects, but I like the TD30 too much to change it. There is no channel 11 on the 27 or 50 and I want the digital stuff.
Hello! I'm loving your videos! I just saw an old video on headphones and wanted your opinion for 2 things: Do you recommend which IN EAR for e-drummers? I have a Shure SE215 but I do not know if it is ideal for this. And another question: what do you say about using bass shaker? greetings from Brazilian drummers :)
I've never used In Ears for edrums (at least not yet) But those are decent monitors, I like the brand Sure. And yes I've heard good things about bass shakers like the Pearl Butt Kicker, but I haven't tried one yet either :) greetings from america
I have two separate questions. I have a Roland TD 17 and RolanD TD 27 for a module that I would like to use at the same time because I have an 11 piece kit and run through my laptop through superior Drummer three. No one from any music store online or brick and mortar has any idea how to guide me through that process. It Hass to be possible, most modules don’t give enough triggers to expand. My second question involves a brand new pair of metal Jobeky hi hat cymbals that I purchased to replace the v 10 hat. It triggers and sounds better than the V 10 for sure but I cannot figure out how to properly calibrate a third-party hi hat into a Roland drum module. The hats Will physically close but I still get a loose ring in tone Any clue on how to do that?
I have combined two Roland kits to make a custom kit and I want to use Addictive Drums 2 either as a stand alone or with a DAW like FL Studio or Reaper to trigger the extra pads and cymbals but I am having problems because the signals are being duplicated. The pads on the original kit a Roland TD17KV trigger just fine but the pads on the added kit a Roland TD11K mimic the corresponding pads on the TD17KV. I tried to get the TD11K pads to "learn" new pieces but when I did that it would change the corresponding pads on the TD17KV to learn that piece also instead of staying as it should be. How can I get Addictive Drums 2 to recognize each pad separately? I have the kits set up using a midi cable out for each module going into a midi splitter which is plugged into my Presonus Audiobox 22VSL interface then USB out to my laptop. I bet this is probably a complex mapping fix. But I am hoping I am just missing a simple set up setting. In any case, are there any of you gurus out there that know how to fix this?
Hi. Love your channel. It was your review of the TD-17KVX that made me want it and I've loved it. My question: Can I daisy chain a TD-9 to the TD-17 using a midi cable? Does the TD-9 have channel 11? Would really like a few more pads without the sacrifices of drum splitters, which is what I'm doing now. Thanks and keep up the great work!!
Hey Justin. I am a drummer who is using a hybrid set up but I have an issue. I use two individual kick drums. Both have separate triggers. I own a Roland TD-3 module but it only has 1 kick input. I also own a Roland TM-2 that I use to trigger two individual kicks live with my band. I have tried to tether them together but one of the channels on the Roland-Tm2 only sends a snare sound when tethered and it can't be changed. This is with a midi tethering. I would like to use midi because I want to connect every thing to my computer to trigger get good drums. Would I be better off just connecting both modules individually to my computer ? The issue with that is that I use an interface with my Roland TD-3 that only has one midi in. And I worry about hooking up a second module via usb because the timing will be off in my DAW. What should I do ?
Hi Justin! I want to connect my td-15 as slave to td 17 aux as a master module. Ive connected both tgt but im receiving a soft weird sound. Is there like a specific type or cable that i need to use?
Hello! I really appreciate your videos, I watched them a lot since I just got my first kit. I have a question for you, since I haven't been able to find an answer on Google yet. You say we can easily plug two different midi controller into a computer and I understand that. I'm actually using the Nitro module, but I'd like to expand my kit a little bit more by buying and eDRUMin 4 so I could use a continuous hihat controller and a 3 zone ride. My question is : can you set a drum software (mine is Addictive Drums 2) to use multiple MIDI devices at the same time. I would like to set te nitro module to trigger most of the drum pads, but I would use the eDRUMin 4 to trigger the snare pad, hihat/controller and 3 zone ride. Again, thank you for your videos, they've been really helpful to me.
I'm thinking of buying the Alesis Crimson II kit, as I am a beginner and do not want to spend too much from the start. In time (1 or 2 years) I want to upgrade to a better set. Normally I would stay with Alesis, which I think would minimize the difference in sound modules. If I do it this way, in time I would have a decent kit + additional pads and cymbals I can connect from the Crimson kit. Could you offer me your opinion on this, and is it even possible to do this, as I would have to combine the 2 racks in a way that all the pads and cymbals can be mounted. Thanks
*Great video, as always... I've currently been considering a "Micro Kit" based around a Roland SPD-30 Octopad, and with a PDX-100 for a snare, a couple KD-10s for kicks, and undecided as yet hat and ride triggers..., you know..., a kit with a very small playing footprint..., and an ultra small and lightweight package for transport and storage... But..., here's the twist... I've already got an old BOSS DR-880 drum machine that I thought I might link up to the SPD-30 with a couple MIDI cables, and blend it together with the SPD-30 with either a small mixer, or just an audio cable from the DR-88- to the SPD-30, (in keeping with the "small & uncomplicated" focus of the rig.) What would be your thoughts on this, good or bad, or whatever..., sonically, or technically, (such as MIDI channel incapability)..., etc...?* *Also... As I've been considering this route..., I thought it might be interesting to have an in-depth video on the history of the Roland Octopad line..., as well as a discussion on various potential applications of it in different settings, such as acoustic kit augmentation, electronic kit expansion, the aforementioned "Micro Kit" scenario of adding different pads and triggers, for sticks and feet, for a complete trap set..., or even just using it all by itself..., for practice, composition, recording, or performance... Of course..., you could also mention similar competitors' products for relative comparison... But I feel that a quality and comprehensive video is past due for the venerable Octopad line..., and I honestly feel that no one else could do a better job on one... Plus..., if we draw enough attention on the subject, perhaps it might stir enough market demand for Roland to create a SPD-40..., with more modern V-Drum electronics and software implementation..., and even more trigger inputs..., perhaps, dare I say, USB inputs for digital triggers..., and of course..., modern full USB implementation for PCs & Macs, allowing not just MIDI data, but full digital audio transfer, and extensive computer based UI interface and control...*
Hi Justin, or other readers, is it possible to set the td30 as master and the td10 as slave and if sow how to setup . i only see movies you had to put the medi cable in it and something with channel 11. but that is what ik can find, best reagards Martijn, the netherlands
I think the main difference would be quality of the samples. I have a dm5 and I've just never been too impressed by it's on board drum sounds. Works excellent as a midi controller though.
hey man im trying to build a e drum set i can use as triggers for GGD invasion drum pack and i want to be able to have a 6 piece drums with 2 crashes a ride and a crash and i hope you know anything about Millenium drum kits cause ive seen a good priced kit with what i need except a 4th cymbal and i want to know what pad i can add and if i can or if i have to use 2 modules thanks
Great video! How do you like the KAT ride? Is it as responsive as a Roland ride? How does it feel compared to Roland? Is it compatible with Roland modules? Thanks
I use a TD15 (for hats only) alongside a 2box drumit5 going from headphone out of TD into 2box aux in as I prefer the roland hihat interface, and the result it pretty good. For a time I also used the snare from the TD15 as I liked the separation of pad/rimshot. But after a while went back to the 2box because of the realism of how the 2box handles it's dynamics with multi samples. But the roland was decent enough and I would have been okay with sticking with it. I also did it with the kick for a few gigs, I like that too.
Its got a lot going for it, and a lot not going for it. The price for it's main feature being the biggest plus. The latter being largely being a small swedish company that in the face of the giants, its voice is struggling to be heard and noticed. It's not a perfect module, but if it had a lot more support, I have no doubt the money would have prompted them to make a drumit6 or maybe even a 7 after all these years. I often wonder the ideas those guys had/have if there was more financial support vs risk. At the core it's a great module capable of playing any sound. The software is so simple to make your own loops and multi samples, it really is a shame it's not a more staple part of the overall e-drumming world. I for one, will be holding onto mine for many years to come!
anyone know if you can run two modules in Addictive drums 2? for example a dtx 500 and a 502 and be able to get them both to produce sound. ive been able to get them both to run separately but not at the same time..
Hello sir I like your video. Will you please tell me that I have three module alesis nitro, Alesis forge, alesis Dm10 and I would like to connect all of them via midi. So please help me how to do it? And if their is any better option please tell that also. Thank you
Hi Justin, quick question I already connected two drum module, one is the Alesis Surge to the Alesis DM10 MKII PRO (this is the main one) withe AUX IN method, but the surge volume is to low and have in the max. Any way to fix this?
@@65Drums Thanks for the rapid reply... it's an honor for me to talk to you, Sir. I'll try that but here's what I've done and what I'm doing. I have the main module, the DM10 MKII PRO connected to a mini mixer(which I could use for the 2nd module) but I need this method in order to have the empty channel on the small mixer. Also, I just plugged in the left output on the 2nd module......do I need to use both left and right output, regardless of the mono main output?
New to the electronic drum world. It might be a stupid question, but I just want to be sure. Can you chain a Roland TD-25 module with a TD-50 module for use at the same time? I ask because I want the PD-140DS 14" snare, and also the CY-18DR 18" ride cymbal. Both of those pieces are strictly compatible with the 50 module only. Also, the 50 module allows for much more freedom to expand your kit and add more pads. But, I am comfortable and much prefer the user interface on the Roland 25 module to customize my overall pad sounds, etc. is this even possible to do? If so, anybody know what all I would need to invest in to make it happen?
Great Video, but have a few questions and if you cover this in another video for option one. I have one drum module setup 5pin midi to my audio interface, and the other usb. My idea is to "extend" the usb one to act as other cymbals in Superior Drummer 3. The issue I have is rack tom2 on the 1st module is tom2, and the cymbal on the second module (tom2 plug) maps the same note being #45. If I change it to lets say a china both pads from the two modules become a china without differentiating the two as separate notes. I tried to change the note, but it does the same thing for each pad in both drum modules. I've also changed the tom2 on the usb device to another sound, but it resulted in the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I was able to figure this out. As per the DM5's manual I can change the output note #, so after I reconfigure all the duplicate numbers I should be able to have a different map for each pad.
Hi guys ! I have the TD27 module, but I want some of the cheesy fun stuff on the TD6 or TD10...etc. *Like; when you hit the kick drum it plays a bass line... Etc...LOL You know, the fun stuff !!! Hehehehehehe I'm wondering if I can hook the TD6 up to the TD27, and get all of the TD6 fun sounds threw JUST the TD27's cable snake to the pads ?!?!?!? I dont have any "fun" older modules, YET, I'm just using the TD6 as an example so youz know what I mean. If it's possible, I'm looking to bid on an older module if it works, to chain it to my TD27. I never messed around with midi or anything, and I don't want to do anything dumb that will destroy my module...lol I watched videos on midi, but I never hands on tried it, so I don't completely understand what it can and can't do. Trust me, I'm dumb as a log, so I don't understand it at all honestly !!! Hahahahahaha Worked my buns off though to get what I have, so I don't want to do anything I'm unfamiliar with. If anyone can just tell me if what I explained would work, I'll go for it. Thanks ! 😁👍
If you have two modules, both connected by usb, won't the VST get confused by them using the same midi notes and/or channels? Or is it smart enough to differentiate between the two? I ask because i'm interested in having two modules connected to superior drummer or a DAW running it as a plugin.
So if I use say, a DM-10 as my slave (Yes it will do port 11). And a TD-30 as my main. Can I use the midi ports and it will assign different midi notes from the DM-10 than the TD? So I can trigger SD3 from the TD. Or do I have to use the USB from both units into the PC or Mac?
Never used anything but Roland modules, but my guess would be that you can probably configure the MIDI notes triggered by the DM-10? If that's the case, I'd expect the MIDI out of the DM-10 to just send the notes you configured in that module. The Roland module would then receive these same notes on the MIDI In and just pass them along through the USB MIDI interface. After that, you just have to map the notes in SD3.
Hi . Great video . The only issue I'm having is that ezdrummer will only recognize one input . Linking the two modules via midi causes mapping issues ( same midi numbers used by both modules ) The only work around in ezdrummer is to run 2 separate instances of the program . Any tips on changing the mapping for pad numbers etc ? I'd really like to use ezdrummer as the sounds are amazing ! I'm using a TD7 module and an alesis nitro mesh module .
I’m having the same problem with the Roland tm2 module and the alesis nitro module Tm2 midi out to alesis midi in then usb to computer and It only registered the alesis module So we tried the opposite alesis out to tm2 in them usb to computer and it only registered the Roland module We’re going to try L and R output of Roland to the six in of the alesis module next to see if that works but still not sure if it will work since pad mapping could be the same Did u ever figure this out??
Hey Justin, quick question- now that you've converted your acoustics to e-drums, are they quiet like V-Drums? I'm guessing someone would only convert because they want to maintain the "look" of acoustics? (as opposed to buying an e kit)
I know this isnt related to the video, but i need to get this off my mind. I'm a beginner drummer, and i know little to no things about the drums. I've been thinking of getting an alesis forge, so is that a good beginning drumset? If not, can you recommend a good drum kit that's between $500-600?
At $500-600 you're not really going to get any electronic kit that has hardware that gets you the real feel unless you search for used kits. And at that price you end up with practice pads but if that's what you want to start with, that's OK too. Personally, for a little more money I'd think of having at least Mesh Heads, on at least the snare drum and better, all the drums. The Mesh Heads will get you closer to an acoustic feel (not sound of course) than rubber heads. I've had electronic drum equipment going back to the 1980's (Coron DS-7), bought my first Roland TD-10 Concert V-Drums in 2002 and own a TD-12 Kit and a TD-25 Kit. Along with Justin here at his Channel, who does a great job, I also offer support from my personal experience. Go to my web page and feel free to contact me if you'd like. www.vircussion.com/
Hello, do you know how I have to connect my e drums roland TD-11 KV to the soundcraft mixer ui 24r that I can configure all toms and cymbals individually as seperat input signals?
You'll get duplication of certain drums if you do that. The TD25 doesn't have a percussion set that lets you independently change what a second module would control. So.. it won't work :/
I’m trying to do the same thing but alesis nitro module as the master and the Roland tm2 as slave, all midi into interface then usb to computer Roland tm2 is just for my bass drum sounds and alesis for everything else. The computer registers all the alesis pads but doesn’t register the Roland. We tried changing LOC off on the alesis and Roland to channel 10 and 11 and it still doesn’t work…. We also tried Roland as master and alesis as slave and just Roland module registered but not alesis We’re going to try Roland L and R outputs to the aux input of the nitro module next and hope that works 65drums can u help???
Thanks, man, you're saving my life here! I'll try to connect a Alesis DM5 to a Alesis Nitro. If you can, visit my channel, I'm posting drum covers using my Frankenstein edrum kit
I don't think I will need a mixer I have a module that has 8 XLR/guitar inputs. So I'm good in that department. Heck I could probably run a hell of a lot more modules lol.
Connected the TRS cables from my drum triggers to a female TRS to dual TRS male Y cable splitting the MIDI signal between two brains allowing me to use one brain for drum samples and the other one for sending midi signal to keys for more drums, percussion or synths - no computer required and perfect for performing live - but you can add that as well if you like.
thank you for this video, I ended up buying a mixer and both sound great thank you I hope god blesses your life.
I just bought a Roland TD-11 to expand my TD-25...Thanks for the options 👍
Sounds the best I think, haven't tapped into software yet.
thanks a lot for the information!.....when it is about E drums dettails,...you are the one! greetings from Holland
So how was the result? Does it sound good?
Yeah, what happened ?
Curious to know.
I have the TD27 but I want some of the cheesy fun stuff on the TD6 or TD10, that when you hit the kick drum it plays a bass line... Etc...LOL
I'm wondering if I can hook the TD6 up to the TD27, and get all of the TD6 fun sounds ?!?!?!?
I dont have any "fun" older modules yet, I'm just using the TD6 as an example.
I never messed around with midi or anything, and I don't want to do anything dumb that will destroy my module.
Worked my buns off to get what I have, so I don't want to do anything I'm unfamiliar with...
Thanks !
😁👍
So is it possible to use a second module (TM-2) just to expand trigger pads and have them trigger sounds from my TM-6 by connecting the two modules with a midi cable?
Nice marking of the module controlled surfaces.
+Mike Silhy Thanks Mike, I was trying to figure out a clear way to mark each pad (didn't want to confuse anyone) and I thought of this :)
hey 65 Drums!
I have a question I would like to add pad or crash to RDB cable ( TD 11 ) what kind of pad or trigger is working on this cable. Thank 🙏
Would the Mackie Profx6v3 be sufficient enough to run to different modules. Thanks
Cheers. God Bless.
i bought a td-10 in 2002, so if i buy a new td-27 or td-50 i just make my td10 the slave and set it to 11? then i could have like 20 triggers?
yup
With the 1st method I have a small interface with my edrums , will I be able to hear the sound from the other module once I hook it up to the laptop? I’m using ez drummer 3 , I also have my headphone plugged up to my interface
Well done buddy - Thanks for posting that.
Thanks a lot Justin been bugging him for this one for a long time lol can't wait for the rdrums review too
+Mike Stein Sorry it took so long, but finally got it done :)
awesome video bro... need some help how can I connect 2 module through a mixer to the interface and then to studio drummer in native instruments via logic ?
Do you know if it's possible to combine a Ddrum DDTI with a Roland TD15???
Would that work?
so its possible to add more cymbals if i have 2 module connected on pc and map it in any DAW with VST on it?
Help!!!!!
So using a slave module is only to layer sounds or is it tonuse more pads, i want to expand my kit with more pads without using splitters
You need to change the midi notes on one of your modules so they don't compete with each other.
This is probably dumb question but can I use the alesis sample pad pro and connect it to a dm10 for more triggers but use samples from sample pad?
What about plugging in a percussion pad like an octopad into a td 27? With and without using a pad input?
The hats Will physically close but I still get a loose ring in tone
Any clue on how to do that?
Hi! Did you ever solve this problem?
The TD9 has the percussion channel set, the TD17 doesn't to my knowledge. Could be wrong though
Do you know if there is any way I can check it see if it is?
I've already got an old BOSS DR-880 drum machine that I thought I might link up to the SPD-30 with a couple MIDI cables, and blend it together with the SPD-30 with either a small mixer, or just an audio cable from the DR-88- to the SPD-30, (in keeping with the "small & uncomplicated" focus of the rig.) What would be your thoughts on this, good or bad, or whatever..., sonically, or technically, (such as MIDI channel incapability)..., etc...?*
*Also...
Completely agree!
I don't want to mix the sounds of 2 module in one drum kit. I just want to be able to switch between the two modules . That will work right?
Hmmm, I didn't know a lot of this. Thanks... Good video!
Hi Justin, or other readers, is it possible to set the td30 as master and the td10 as slave and if sow how to setup . i only see movies you had to put the medi cable in it and something with channel 11. but that is what ik can find,
best reagards Martijn, the netherlands
Hey buddy, thanks for sharing! Do you think I can do that with Roland HD1 and Td4?
If I connect them together with direct audio can I still get MIDI output?
Nice video. Thanks for sharing this. Questions: does anyone knows if a Roland TD11 can work well with an old Alesis DM5? Thanks...
Question: With a second module would i be able to add more pads and cymbals?
Yes
Great video! How do you like the KAT ride? Is it as responsive as a Roland ride? How does it feel compared to Roland? Is it compatible with Roland modules? Thanks
+Bryan Forth it’s ok, not as nice as Roland though. No it’s not compatible
+Stephen Mackrill nice setup! I still have never seen a 2box module, but I keep hearing good things about it
Its got a lot going for it, and a lot not going for it.
Thank you
Did u get through to connecting the alesis modules?
Thanks sooooooo much! That is actually what I always want.
Hi Justin, quick question
I already connected two drum module, one is the Alesis Surge to the Alesis DM10 MKII PRO (this is the main one) withe AUX IN method, but the surge volume is to low and have in the max.
Any way to fix this?
Turn up the Aux In volume on the strike in addition to turning up the Surge headphone/master outs
@@65Drums
Thanks for the rapid reply... it's an honor for me to talk to you, Sir.
If so, anybody know what all I would need to invest in to make it happen?
he literally says you can in this video. any roland can be chained to another via midi
This was very helpful thank you. I was just wondering what a good module would be for a $2000 conversation drum set from jobecky
+Jacob Bixby I'd look at the TD25, or the 2box Drumit3. If you're on a tight budget, get a td9.
thanks a lot
Etc...LOL
You know, the fun stuff !!!
Hehehehehehe
I'm wondering if I can hook the TD6 up to the TD27, and get all of the TD6 fun sounds threw JUST the TD27's cable snake to the pads ?!?!?!?
I dont have any "fun" older modules, YET, I'm just using the TD6 as an example so youz know what I mean.
If it's possible, I'm looking to bid on an older module if it works, to chain it to my TD27.
I never messed around with midi or anything, and I don't want to do anything dumb that will destroy my module...lol
I watched videos on midi, but I never hands on tried it, so I don't completely understand what it can and can't do.
Trust me, I'm dumb as a log, so I don't understand it at all honestly !!!
Hahahahahaha
Worked my buns off though to get what I have, so I don't want to do anything I'm unfamiliar with.
If anyone can just tell me if what I explained would work, I'll go for it.
Thanks !
😁👍
If you have two modules, both connected by usb, won't the VST get confused by them using the same midi notes and/or channels? Or is it smart enough to differentiate between the two? I ask because i'm interested in having two modules connected to superior drummer or a DAW running it as a plugin.
did you figure how to do it? I have the same question aslo
Linking the two modules via midi causes mapping issues ( same midi numbers used by both modules )
The only work around in ezdrummer is to run 2 separate instances of the program . Any tips on changing the mapping for pad numbers etc ? I'd really like to use ezdrummer as the sounds are amazing ! I'm using a TD7 module and an alesis nitro mesh module .
I’m having the same problem with the Roland tm2 module and the alesis nitro module
Tm2 midi out to alesis midi in then usb to computer and It only registered the alesis module
So we tried the opposite alesis out to tm2 in them usb to computer and it only registered the Roland module
We’re going to try L and R output of Roland to the six in of the alesis module next to see if that works but still not sure if it will work since pad mapping could be the same
Did u ever figure this out??
yeah! 10 cymbals now!
Hey Justin, quick question- now that you've converted your acoustics to e-drums, are they quiet like V-Drums? I'm guessing someone would only convert because they want to maintain the "look" of acoustics? (as opposed to buying an e kit)
They are a tad louder, but still alot quieter than an acoustic set
Ok I have to module for my Alesis kit , my problem is I can’t split the sounds

Hello, do you know how I have to connect my e drums roland TD-11 KV to the soundcraft mixer ui 24r that I can configure all toms and cymbals individually as seperat input signals?
You can't do that with a TD11 :/ it only has Master R and L outputs
Thanks a lot.
Do you know another module which i could use to to this?
Can you do option 1 with a multi pad
Can I used a different brand module??
Great video!
Thanks!
Hey nice tutorial !
I noticed 2 very cool music at the end if the video (the timelapse and the outro one), can you give me their titles ?
It's royalty free music youtube offers in the creator section the song is Last Second by Silent Partner
Can I add a td3 module to a td25 via midi? I know the td3 has midi In/out but my td25 doesn't
You'll get duplication of certain drums if you do that. The TD25 doesn't have a percussion set that lets you independently change what a second module would control. So.. it won't work :/
65 Drums thanks for the quick reply man. Would that be the same for connecting via mix in cable?
Is it possible to go tm2 midi into td8 then midi into my interface? I can't seem to get the tm2 working 😭
I’m trying to do the same thing but alesis nitro module as the master and the Roland tm2 as slave, all midi into interface then usb to computer
Roland tm2 is just for my bass drum sounds and alesis for everything else. The computer registers all the alesis pads but doesn’t register the Roland. We tried changing LOC off on the alesis and Roland to channel 10 and 11 and it still doesn’t work….
We also tried Roland as master and alesis as slave and just Roland module registered but not alesis
We’re going to try Roland L and R outputs to the aux input of the nitro module next and hope that works
65drums can u help???
excellent!! ;-)
I did the audio way where you plug in the mix etc I only hear one side
If you’re using a splitter make sure it’s a balanced splitter
Cool
Thanks, man, you're saving my life here! I'll try to connect a Alesis DM5 to a Alesis Nitro. If you can, visit my channel, I'm posting drum covers using my Frankenstein edrum kit
I don't think I will need a mixer I have a module that has 8 XLR/guitar inputs. So I'm good in that department. Heck I could probably run a hell of a lot more modules lol.
How to connect my td1 to td9?
SWEET
+Brian Mendelsohn sweeeeet :)
I just want to put 2 modules cuz edrum kits are so small 😆 I need my 5 toms and 14 cymbals
100
Not me useing two different pairs of headphones for this
