    I fitted one onto a road bike without any mounting positions 16,000 miles ago using exhaust clamps and have since took it on 10+ flights, done food deliveries and carried way over the weight limit touring. I use ortlieb bags. The spring version was getting in the way with the ortlieb bag mount rails. The rack is solid and well designed.

    I was about to buy a rack. A disc version hadn’t even come to mind. Glad I found this. 👍🏼

    Have the version with the spring clamp & a couple of trunk bags that fit this make of rack. My son like the trunk bag that he bought the rack & took one of my bags. I have the older expandable bag (no bottle pocket) & used it to carry work clothes to & fro. % years & counting. Now retried, have added pannier baskets. I use bags slightly larger than the baskets to haul groceries & I strap on my large "U" lock. One thing, to date I have used the rack's spring clamp only once. The trunk bag is much more flexible for me. This one is made by Topeak.

    If you've got dropped seat-stays, like the Triban has for instance,
    swapping the seat-post clamp for one with mounting holes fitted, will make life easier.
    I like to swap the nuts over for locking variety.
    + and apply some copper-slip to all the nuts and bolts - stops them seizing in place, over time.

    Thank you so much! I was given this model and had no idea how to set it up. Now I have it properly installed.

    Great video. getting the mounting arms on was indeed a bodge. glad I saw your video because with all the bending required, i initially thought i would have to return for difference size.

    Great video - the instructions that came with the rack were confusing and this lateral approach was really helpful

    I’m afraid you put arms on wrong sides. Should be swapped, according to the manual. In most bikes arms will be twisted less than 90 degrees. In your case must be twisted more than 90. Should not be really big deal in real life but since many users watch your video instead of reading manual, it’s betted to pay their attention.
    I mounted 2 of topeak racks on my bike and bike of my son. He was using Topeak DXP bag. It’s easy and fast to fit, on bad roads the black paint on the base plate (?) was getting scratches to the white aluminum and it’s the only drawback I can see. I used universal Merida bags, cheap and rather simple, suiting the rack very well. The set was noisy on forest trails but trails is not the place for bike with big bags.

    Can you connect silver brackets to seat post holes? Where you tighten the seat?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  2 года назад +1

      I wouldn't recommend fixing the rack in any way other than as intended. There are other racks available if you don't have the appropriate mounting points on your bike including ones that clamp to seat posts.

    Does anyone, anywhere post a video for installing it on NON disk brakes? You know -- the type that were used for the past eight decades of cycling?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  Год назад

      This is a model specifically for disc brake cycles. You'll want to look for a rack that is compatible with rim brakes.

    Hi , I have a Ribble Adventure 725 & my fame looks very similar to this one , Could I ask what kick stand you are using As I'm struggling to find one .

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  3 года назад +1

      Couldn't tell you specifically, unfortunately, other than I think it was a Merida one made for the frame - though I could be wrong. It's long since broken and been replaced by a generic stand that clamps to the chain stay.

    If you have to change a flat tire will the rack be in the way

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  2 года назад

      Shouldn't be, no - at least it's not been an issue on my bike where the fixings don't interfere with the axle bolts, so it's still easy to remove the wheel before changing the tube or patching. I obviously can't speak for all bikes and fixing types. I guess if you want to patch a puncture with the wheel in situ, the rack would restrict access from the top - but no more than any other rack.

    Top tip: use Loctite on screws before you go on the ripio in Patagonia. Ask me how I know ;-)

    Great video, thanks, do you know if this rack can be fitted along with SKS Blumells mudguards, seems the rack bolts will need to also hold the mudguards....?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  6 лет назад

      Thanks. That's a good question, and to be honest I'm not sure. There is a mounting point available between the two seat stays, above the wheel (see 1:38) but mounting retainers near the axle may be problematic. Purely speculating, but you might be able to fit the mudguard first with the rack fixings over the top, but long, good quality bolts may be required. If in doubt, I recommend popping along to your local bike shop for advice on your specific setup.

    Hi, How is the rack working out for you? Which bag do you use with it?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  5 лет назад

      It's been absolutely fine and solid since installing it. No problems. I'm using the Topeak MTX Trunkbag DXP which offers a lot of versatility in configuration, and of course works with the QuickTrack rail system.

    • @AlexxKovacs
      @AlexxKovacs 5 лет назад

      @@BicycleBen Thanks, I'm looking to get the same rack/bag combo for my bike. The expanded DXP panniers don't interfere with peddling at all? Also, Which kick stand do you have?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  5 лет назад

      @@AlexxKovacs No interference at all. The only thing I make sure is to use the elastic ties for the panniers in the right orientation to avoid the risk of them getting caught. The kick stand I have now is just a generic thing that bolts around the chain stay. Nothing special.

    Will it fit a Tern eclipse p20 26 wheel folding bike?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  6 лет назад

      Sorry, missed your comment. Did you find an answer? I wouldn't like to give a definitive response either way. If the bike has the appropriate mounting points then it may well do, but I guess it could impact on the fold. If you're still investigating, have a word with your local bike shop to see what they advise.

    Can I use side panniers with it?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  6 лет назад +1

      Topeak have their own side panniers available which appear to be compatible with this rack (search for 'Topeak Pannier Drybag DX'). In terms of other options e.g., Ortileb, I would assume so but I haven't tested it so, I don't know for sure.

    • @knizama3534
      @knizama3534 5 лет назад

      Yes u can use other side panniers since the rack had a side bar to hang the side pannier lock

  • @living4adrenaline

    So how might one install the rack without the pre drilled holes and fittings on the frame?

    • @BicycleBen
      @BicycleBen  7 лет назад

      If your frame doesn't have the appropriate fittings for this rack, you'll need to look at an alternative such as one with seat post fixings e.g., the Topeak MTX Beamrack (not an endorsement as I've not used it, but just to give you an idea of an alternative option.)
