Hi Jack, it seems you’ve just checked areroe’s specs, but not the bike manufacturer’s specs. Specialized for example, void their warranty if attaching a non-compatible product to their frame.. since you already have a relationship with specialized it may be quicker/easier to get a response from them.. there’s no chance I’d fix something like this to my carbon bike.. the seat stays are far too thin/slender. Aeroe saying you need to pack out the fixings is another red flag that the seat stays are too thin
It’s a valid question, but not one I’m able to answer. I’m sure every situation is unique and no blanket ‘answer’ that suits all circumstances. I do understand where you’re coming from though 🙌🏽
Hey, we have actually had the specialized carbon team review/test our racks with their bikes for a bunch of their ambassadors wanting to use our racks for a trip last year and thought they were great (trip featured on the radavist). Each to their own what you are comfortable with but had many customers over the years using our racks on all sorts of bikes and trips with no issues. Most people using our gear are on MTB and gravel so very rare need any packing at all. Any questions feel free to get in touch Cheers aeroe.
@@aeroebikepackHey there! Would you be able to share the approval of Specialized and/or link to the trip you mentioned? That would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
@aeroebikepack Initial question not answered: is it Specialized voiding their warranty if anything happens when installing Aeroe rack on their carbon frames?
Thanks for following up with this video, Jack! My boyfriend and I used ours for the first time this weekend on a 200km bikepacking trip. We used some clear Gorilla tape on the back touchpoints and didn't have any slipping. I do worry about the carbon frame a little bit --- but it is such a user-friendly set-up, perfect for road/gravel/single track, and a hell of a lot cheaper than **fin. We paired it with the Aero front cradle rack, and I'm really happy with how both performed (a bit of slippage on the front rack, which we will spend some time troubleshooting this week). We'll pay attention to the back straps after seeing this -- thanks again!!
One con is that you can't use a garmin radar unit as the bag blocks it when mounted to seat post. Plus using a rear rack allows you to put a larger drybag or back pack on the top of the rack along with smaller panniers and then put the radar unit on the end of the rack.
I just re-used a spare Garmin mount I had from my edge cycling computer - the ones with the 2 rubber bands, and mounted it to the right side rack bar where it goes vertical. Works perfectly.
I did the Munda biddi as well with the aeroe rack and used a 13 liter Ortlieb dry bag with voile straps, absolutely caned it and it held up Beautifully!! I previously used an Ortlieb saddle bag and gave up because (1) got sick of the hassle taking it on and off the bike or Everything falling onto ground (2) the bag wore out where it attached to the saddle … same thing for my buddy btw , he’s had two bags replaced under warranty this way, (3) bag droop onto tyre from time to time (4) sway sway sway. The aeroe solved all these things and the weight penalty is nothing next to the hassle saved on a long trip
I have used Aeroe handlebar cradle on approx 10 rides so far. On the first two ride with only 4.5lbs on the cradle, the cradle kept slipping lower, pressing into my hydraulic brake lines. The Clamping kept loosening. On the next few rides, the cradle slipped almost immediately with approx. 6lbs in the cradle. I then used a handlebar extender to move the cradle out from my handlebars. On the next ride with 7lbs in the cradle the extender held but the cradle clamps loosened and the cradle flopped almost to tire level and pressed against my brake lines. On my last ride I think i have found a solution. I put an additional extender under the first extender so when the cradle clamps loosen. The cradle did flop, but only as far as the second extender not into my brake lines. I now have built up the extender thickness with rubber inner tube and really cranked the cradle clamps down on the tubing. I am testing this latest version and it seems to hold. My complaint about the cradle itself Is that the dry bag (that contains my tent. fly, poles and ground sheet) keeps bouncing and keeps spinning in the cradle. It is like the cradle material is not sturdy enough to even carry a 7 lb load. Neither the company I purchased it from Mountain Equipment Co-op nor Aeroe seem to care about the lack of performance or quality of this product. This product can only be used with a lot of work.
Hey email us via our website - sounds like you may have our older straps - we have generation 2 straps for our handlebar cradle that we can get out to you - zero slippage and greater weights now. Cheers aeroe.
The advantage here is clearly the ability to use any bag/stuff on the cradles. This also enables one to pack all the gear off the bike, and then attach it, as opposed to other styles where the bag is fixed to the bike/rack. And no moving parts after installation. The seat stay thing was my concern as well, but they gave me the same tricks and they appear to do the job. On a road setup, the cradle comes a bit further backward, but that actually makes room for a saddle bag as well, when going in heavy 👌🏼 SO really is the best of both worlds.
@@aeroebikepack How does this fixing system work in relation to frame warranties? My concern would be that if any rubbing or damage was to be caused then it might have invalidated the warranty
I bought the aeroe rear rack with 3 cradles last year, together with 3 bags from STS. The result so far has been somewhat mixed, which bothers me: the cradles tend to move, the 4 screws per cradle should be checked regularly and tightened if necessary. The bags also move around in the side cradles, the straps need to be tightened properly and checked regularly. Fitting and removing the bags from the side cradles with the straps is quite fiddly and not nearly as quick as you might expect. And how durable will these 4 textile straps for mounting on the bike frame be? In future I'll probably go back to using an Ortlieb Quick Rack and classic bike bags, which may not look as cool but is practical and much quicker to handle.
One big con is the little rubber feet always fall off, these need to be taped on. Also if you misplace a tightening strap its a pain. Id recommend getting a few spaes of each. Otherwise its a brilliant product
Fair call, I’ve misplaced them in the garage before, but luckily not on a trip. If the fit was a little tighter, and they didn’t pop out, it would be an improvement for sure 👌🏽
@@aeroebikepack Kia Ora, thanks. I got in touch about the handlebar cradle bracket. All sorted now. Your team have outstanding customer service. Love my setup
Fine for alum seat stays but I imagine still slip down really easily as mentioned in comments. Crazy to use it on carbon stays which is all my bikes are higher end mtb and gravel. The amount you would have to tighten down is just stupid considering the fibers are not aligned to protect from that kind of torque. Better to go with the Old Man racks and save your carbon frame because they main stabilizing downward force is held by the axle mounting. Plus, the have kits for most mountain and road bikes on their site. That said you get what you pay for and Old Man racks are about 250+ total drive out.
@@jackultracyclistofficial smart to mount them with the main wght on the axle. Then locking so it does not pivot on the seatstays with lots less torque force required protecting those stays. (a must for carbon stays as is my case) but....$$$ beats paying for a new frame.
I have the Thule. It attaches in a relatively similar way. My main gripe is that ortlieb bags don't fit well on the Thule. It seems the Aeroe isn't designed for any pannier bags?
Hi! Our Cradles can carry a lot of different brand of Dry Bags, If you are looking more for 'pannier' bags then we do sell a Spider Pannier Rack that is designed for this. Thanks!
We also have a pannier receiver that can go (swap in/out) on the spider rear rack in place of the cradle depending on if you want to carry dry bags or panniers, Cheers aeroe.
I have the pannier version. Used with a dry bag a voile straps its fine although heavy. I wouldn't use it off road on a carbon frame and have seen pocs of failure on a carbon road frame. With single pannier commuting along a canal its poor. The pannier "stay" is about as useful a a chocolate fireguard. I mitigate with a voile strap to stop it moving too much but it's a bodge. The rack is prone to slip loaded asymmetrically (single pannier)
Hey email us via our website if any questions here, happy to look at your install or any tips and tricks as have many use offroad and shouldn't be any issues with pannier catch. Cheers aeroe.

These are just basic BBB lights, but they are super reliable and with a good battery life 🙌🏽🙌🏽
