    Thank you for this video!!! I have been doing leatherwork for 12 years now and it was still good to see how YOU use the tools. Your idea for the foam and cardboard base to use when drilling holes in thick leather was really great!! Thank you for sharing all of this. I had a $120 pair of boots that were bright RED! After watching half of your video I ordered some of the Oil Dye and dyed them dark brown with great success. I am NOT a red shoe person! You Rock!!! Thanks for sharing.

    That was a great video that just about sums up everything your going to need to start out in leatherwork, it will help some one who is just starting out in leatherwork a lot, one thing you mentioned that I thought was right is the cost of the tools and it's not a cheap hobby, I think I have spent about £500 so far and still spending on tools, not sure what that is in dollars, All the best John.

    Thank you. Learned a lot about leather tools.
    Good point about working your way up. Had to with just about every thing I do in my shop. (Primarily woodworking) When leave it, for last time, there'll be list of "want to have". Still adding, a piece at a time, when "need to have" comes. But, only after "making do with what you have" doesn't get the job done.
    BTW, my first work bench was a old maple kitchen table. :-)
    Beat up after 40+ years, it's the table beside my computer, as I type.

    Hi. Thanks, this video has been incredibly informative. I just recently, basically yesterday, decided to teach myself how to work with leather. I would like, to start of with "steam punk" wrist bands and possible modifying leather boots later on. Would the wrist bands be a fairly easy to start to learn on. I love working with my hands and would love to get in to this craft as a weekend hobby. Greetings from South Africa.

    Hello just watched this video because I want to start making leather goods..I like making my own things when I can like now I make my own jigs and custom paint my own Crankbaits for fishing..I definitely am going to start making my own leather goods and I was wondering if the membership to Tandys is worth the money it cost to join? in other words would a man save more by getting 50% off of everything you buy with the membership or going ahead and paying full price? I guess it would depend on how much I bought which I would be buying everything I need to do the work..Also how much is the membership and where did you get the work station that the Dremmel hooks to?? Thanks.

    • @grierwolfe
      @grierwolfe  10 лет назад

      If your just making things for yourself then the membership isn't worth it. Just buy the little bit of leather your need, but if you plan on making a bunch of stuff for others then invest in the membership.

    Hey,
    Which size cooper rivets you use? And setter also. Cause i think you already find the average one, that fit good for most stuff. I want to use them with 3/4 and 5/8 swivel trigger hooks on key loops..I got really confused, when i tried to order some..Really don't want to miss when order something that doesn't fit..

    • @grierwolfe

    You may want to check out other providers. Tandy isn't bad however unless you have access to their stores, their leather is not quality leather, it can be sub-par. However, companies such as Zack White, and Waterhouse are pretty good distributor of leather. Tandy can be cheap (in quality). They do ship and sell very bad leather that is absolutely unusable. However, the above two companies will make sure that you get you're moneys worth.
