      Murdrocks Now to educate the masses of sheeple...YES COAL CAN BE CLEAN. With proper filtration and safety you can enjoy the benefits of coal. The only issue is that laws on filtration and safety are lax and need to be enforced.

    • @kirinyardberry1324

      Nope. Coal is impossible to be "Clean". When coal is burned it releases sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and carbon dioxide (CO2). These gasses all hurt the environment in some way, especially CO2 and NOx. And while possible to filter some of these gasses with recent technology, it is incredibly expensive, hard to maintain, and is not used anywhere around the country. Seems as though you're the "sheeple" here.

      Clean(er) coal maybe, but the joke that you are obviously not in on Beep Badapup is that "clean coal" is not anywhere near as clean as alternatives like solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. That's why there is no such thing as "clean" coal and Trump's attempts to protect the stubborn people maintaining that industry are a huge waste of time, and many are a burden on progress WE could be contributing towards the industry, instead of allowing China to beat us there too.

      Thanks for pointing that out. I also wanna show you an article from the same magazines: www.popularmechanics.com/science/energy/a4947/4339171/
      "Sadly, although it might make little economic or scientific sense, the political logic behind clean coal is overwhelming. Coal is mined in some politically potent states--Illinois, Montana, West Virginia, Wyoming--and the coal industry spends millions on lobbying. The end result of the debate is all too likely to resemble Congress's corn-based ethanol mandates: legislation that employs appealing buzzwords to justify subsidies to a politically favored constituency--while actually worsening the problem it seeks to solve."

    • @rewer
      @rewer 6 лет назад +55

      Both article are not contradict with each other. So there's nothing obsolete here.
      Both article were saying the exact same thing: It is not cost efficient to implement "clean coal" because it is very expensive. I urge everyone read the conclusion of both articles.
      That's why the term "political buzzword" is using by Popular Mechanics, because it make no sense people chasing for energy that are more expensive for the sake of votes.

    • @rewer
      @rewer 6 лет назад +25

      But the 2011 and 2017 paper did not contradict with each other. Both are concluding the same thing. 2017 paper actually do not recommend the clean coal technology.
      Obama did campaigned for it, but technology told him he has to abandoned that idea because it is technology unwise to do that.

    • @rewer

      I wanna share a video about China as the world largest coal production and usage country decided to REDUCE coal/fossil fuel related energy starting from 2016: ruclips.net/video/lIL9uRnlb6M/видео.html
      If there's a technology that can make coal and petroleum based energy become "clean", China would have invest and research on it, since they are the biggest user of coal/fossil energy. They knew technology wise it's not economy to do so, that's why China decided switch to green energy.
      Because let's face the reality, in current situation there's no way we can have clean coal/fossil energy. It's just a political buzzword created to fool voters (reference from Popular Mechanics magazine)

    • @perlerbear5279

      The last thing I expected was liberals/moderate democrats to start complaining about the term "clean coal", investing in a power source that has supplied our nation for years and trying to improve it with said investment, I guess that is a bad idea from what you say? No power generation is good for your lungs or body for that matter, solar and other minor means of clean energy will never meet the requirements of our society. You can argue that dams which are a medium sized way of generating power (not saying they are insignificant at all) are a clean source of power, but we are all aware at how it affects the environment surrounding it.

      slow down there buddy!
      "investing in a power source that has supplied our nation for years and trying to improve it with said investment, I guess that is a bad idea from what you say"
      That's a regressive statement- it's like saying the USA was built on the back of slaves and so we must continue that. Or that for 2000 years we sent letters instead of e-mail so let's continue that.
      Fact is, if a cheaper, less wasteful and less harmless alternative comes along, we move to that. We call it free-market/capitalism. Coal had it's run, now it's time to move on to cheaper alternatives because the power demand is going to increase exponentially in the next few decades. Data markets and technologies are booming and that is going to create a massive surge of energy demand. Bitcoin mining consumes more energy than the total demand of energy in Denmark. Can you scale the demand uptick if bitcoin markets increase tenfold?
      Also, battery markets are achieving extraordinary technological advances, which is going to make the petro-based automobile industry obsolete within 2050. That's going to have a ripple effect on other conventional sources of energy. Do you really want to place your bets in coal industry in this situation?
      "No power generation is good for your lungs or body for that matter," Got any proof of that? How do wind turbines destroy our body? How do Solar energy cause harm?
      "solar and other minor means of clean energy will never meet the requirements of our society." Beg to differ, your honour

    I wonder why the empire state building was built in such a short time... Maybe because the workers had to work until they died and then simply got replaced by new ones, but what do I know?

    • @TheJaredtheJaredlong
      @TheJaredtheJaredlong 6 лет назад +37

      There's a lot of factors. The biggest factor being that when it was built it was a very very simple building. Today's buildings have an incredible amount of overlapping infrastructure that needs to organized and installed, but back then it was steel beams, concrete floors, basic windows, minimal plumbing, and minimal electricity. Only 6 floors levels were actually finished enough to be used on the day it opened; the rest were completely empty and exposed structure. To bring the Empire State Building up to the modern standards it has today took an additional 80 years of work.

      What I do not understand is how someone can be "pretty happy" working the dirtiest job underground, when they could instead work on actually clean renewable energy sources. Coal is not even that profitable any longer. Since money is the only language Trump understands, money can be found in any kind of energy. Someone should explain to him that the future lies in the renewables and therefore it would be smart and profitable to jump on the wagon now instead of being left behind in the world.

    • @pimpmytrade
      @pimpmytrade 6 лет назад

      Ever since the 1960s there have been strict regulations in place to control the emissions of coal-fired power plants. Companies operating these plants are required to remove 99.999999% (or six nines as it’s often referred to) of the noxious components of coal exhaust. These regulated components include soot, ash, Nitrogen-bearing compounds (NOx) and Sulfur bearing compounds (SOx). The soot and ash are what make smoke black and are hazardous to breath. The latter two are major contributors to acid rain and smog when left unchecked. For the last 40-odd years the emissions of these pollutants have been so tightly controlled that they are essentially negligible. In fact, automobiles are much worse when it comes to emissions of NOx than coal, oil, or natural gas fired power plants. For all intents and purposes the only thing coming out of the smokestacks is carbon dioxide (CO2) and water. Now, most people understand the effects of polluting the atmosphere with carbon dioxide, and I don’t want to argue that it’s good, but the fact of the matter is that carbon pollution is the price we pay for energy. The energy you use to power lightbulbs, produce our food, watch our RUclips videos, it all has to come from somewhere. Now we can look at all of our energy generation options: You might consider solar, wind, or other renewables. While these energy sources are promising and notably emissions free, they just don’t produce that much energy, especially when you evaluate how much energy (and money) it takes to build. In order to replace one coal-fired power plant you would need something like 100 wind turbines to replace one coal power plant. Where are you going to put them? What do you do when the wind isn’t blowing? Geothermal and hydroelectric power are nice but you just can’t put them anywhere. Then there’s nuclear, which by all accounts is an excellent energy source, except for the fact that they, you know, blow up, and also that they leave behind nuclear waste that will be around for millions of years. And then there are fossil fuels, which include oil, gas, and yes, coal. These fuel sources are cheap, abundant, and dare-I-say, clean, but have the downside of producing co2. That said, in recent decades fossil fuel burning technologies have come a long way. Traditionally, these fuels have burned with an efficiency of about 30% - that is, for every 100 units of energy contained in the raw fuel, you get 30 units of usable energy. This is determined by thermodynamics and if you’re curious you can look up Carnot efficiency to learn why. New technologies have allowed us to improve efficiency in some cases to between 60-70%, which means we need to burn about half the fuel to get the same amount of energy, ergo half the CO2 emissions. Now, natural gas has the best efficiency. You can burn it in turbines similar to jet engines at really high temperatures, and these fuels are also lower in sulfur. We should be doing more natural gas for sure. That said, technology has dramatically improved coal burning as well. There’s a method called coal gasification that actually uses heat to convert pulverized coal to gas before burning it, so it ends up looking a lot more like natural gas, and burns with much greater efficiency. Anyway, I hope this helps. It’s obviously a complex problem with no easy solutions, and this sort of explanation doesn’t work well in a political speech. While coal is not perfect, it’s not nearly as bad as some ideologues would have you believe.
