“I think commitment is kind of the jumping point from courage. You know, however committed you are too something, that’s how courageous you can be, and however courageous you can be, that’s what ultimately leads you to developing flexibility, developing competencies, trying things you’ve never done and that’s how confidence is built.” [41:07]

The part about trauma resonated with me! How it hinders us from having hope about the future. And the blame! I have wondered why I cant switch my mindset, no matter how much I journal and meditate and all that stuff. I have so much self blame in me. Hope is not in my life. I really feel what this guy is talking about. ❤

Tom I absolutely love this conversation parts of his story gave me goosebumps It’s really juicy 18 minutes in and love listening to this perspective of how our present gives meaning to our past and what makes us conscious beings is seeing multiple futures and using the presents to align with which future we want 🙌🏼 I appreciate him recommending other books on this topic and also love that he quotes other authors. I also love that he calls everyone out that if you are still thinking of your past the same way you did 5 years ago then you are not growing expanding or asking big enough questions 🤯 it is so important for us to gain perspective especially from those who initially inflicted trauma in our past. Be the empathetic witness in other peoples lives we can all heal and expand just by listening and using compassion instead of judgement. ❤️

@@reinaldomartinez13 I don't remember which book it was from, but the author I got it from is Sanaya Roman. I highly recommend her books Living with Joy, Personal Power through Awareness, and Spiritual Growth, which provide a lot of other practices that are really helpful as well. Anyway, basically the process is a meditation or visualization in which you take a painful memory that you feel is holding you back in some way and reimagine it in a beneficial way, you basically replay it in your mind the way you would have wanted it go. As you reimagine the painful memory, you can release the negative emotions attached to it and forgive yourself and/or others involved. I've used this process many times before and it has helped relieve anxiety around painful memories and helped me develop more self-acceptance and self-love, which I always struggled with.

I'm just over a minute in, but I caught something. I think temperament is the base level fundamental and the personality is the external choice. It's like comparing the guy who likes to fight so he gets into fights because he has that kind of temperament, versus the guy who fights because he has the personality to never back down, but internally, he doesn't like to fight.

I want to keep clicking more thumbs up, if I could I would!! Was skipping back so much, had to grab a notebook. Ahh, I needed this, so grateful for both of you today (and in my future 🙏.) Wish you great success on the book.
[I am struggling with the discussion of our "actions give an outcome". It's hard to accept that where I am currently was created by me and me alone. When I think this, I lean towards mental pictures of people who caused the hurt (my traumas) that immobilized me. It's hard 😔 but there's so much to take away from the talk. I will seek more of your work and apply it right away. Thanks again]

“We are meaning making machines” .. sounds like Tom took Landmark 😊 Life changing course that covers a lot of this. It’s interesting how human nature is to think negative or self blame for many situations. Why couldn’t we be wired to always see situations as positive? I guess it’s why we go through journeys and have to train ourselves to reprogram our mindset.

Tom you’ve said in the past that everything is your fault to force people into accountability, what are your thoughts on someone who has gone through abuse or trauma, would you say the same thing or rephrase it or not even bring it up?
