One thing I will add as someone in advertising, get to know creatives that work in Ad agencies. Creative Directors, Art Directors, and Copy Writers are worth knowing and being friends with as they can bump your name up for a job.

I started my career by meeting with ad agency Creative Directors. Thanks to them, I got notified about projects and they helped me submit and get chosen

You nailed the biggest part for me: networking, networking, networking. The most invaluable tool if relationships. Meet people and build relationships!!

Great video! There’s not a lot of people online or even in person at industry talks that really break it down in this way, this is something I’ve only just really learnt and understood within the past year as I’ve just been left to figure it out and put the pieces together myself. I’ve learnt to find my style and tailor my portfolio in such a way that producers will know what jobs to put me forward for.

From the perspective of someone who lives in Estonia, it's interesting to get to know how the industry works around the world. Thanks for the vid

Another great video Nur. I have a question for you - how many commercials (actual or spec) do you think you need to approach a production company or director's rep? I have shot lots of commercial content in the past but I never had the budget and resources to make things in my own style. Now I am changing that around by shooting a spec advert soon but I wondered if one spec alone is enough? Thanks!

I think every situation is unique. But I would say no less than three. Ideally at least 4 or 5. And preferably all in the same genre or similar style.

Hey loved the video do you think that these concepts would still apply if you were aiming to be someone who edits commercials?

Generally the same approach. But I would add paying a bit more attention to up and coming directors. They may take you on every single job if they like working with you. At least it’s what I do. I only work with the same two guys on every commercial job.
