Imagine the labour it must have taken 150 years ago to build that mining camp. A fascinating glimpse of Arizona's past, Ryan. Thanks for sharing this.
Hey Ryan, I just now found your channel for the 1st time…
My dad (Bob White) has been following you for a while now. The reason I’m writing you is to share about my dad and also ask for a favor:
My dad suffered a cardiac arrest this past Wednesday, the paramedics tried reviving him for over an hour and after finally getting him stable, at the hospital (here in Lafayette, Colorado) we all came to be with him (from California & western Colorado) he was supposed to survive the night. Fast forward to Friday & Saturday (12/2 & 12/3) he was finally able to get the tube out and speak with us. His Heart rate at times has been upwards of 200bpm and by all means he shouldn’t be surviving what he has survived, but miracle after miracle he is still here. All that to say when he started talking with us he kept mentioning you Ryan!!! About your channel and of your adventures. Sometimes my dad’s brain would forget what he just said so he would re tell the same story over and over again. So wouldn’t you know it we’ve heard all about you for the past 3 days and just this morning his memory been improving and we heard all about you in more detail. Ryan would there be anyway you could give a shout out or dedicate a video to my dad? It would really mean a lot. Please let me know 714-240-3928
sure, just sent it
Ryan, thank you so much!!! It really lifted his spirits. Praise the Lord my friend… we will keep you in prayer for your channel, your flying adventures and for your family!!! 🙏
As a history buff and recreational prospector, I can truly appreciate this kind of stuff. I too often find relics from the past- previous mining operations, and I find it really interesting. The fortitude that our forefathers had is almost unbelievable, especially when you hear what the kids of today complain about! Those old timers knew the definition of WORK!
Love to see abandoned places and equipment, that is History can't get enough. Thank you.
it always amazes me how different distances look from the air, everything seems so much smaller up there even when you are flying low
Appreciated the smart decision not to push exploring without some backup. This is definitely more flying by the seat of your pants than when you were overseas. Do enjoy your videos and like the fact that you are always looking for ways to improve and update your Fox!
Enjoy watching your videos Ryan, good to see someone maintaining a little bit of discipline while having fun and his Kit Fox. I've been flying my kit fox in Australia for 30 years ... pretty much doing what you do... I'm glad I'm not alone. Keep it up.
Couldn't help myself and googled. Those look like 1930's era Mack dump trucks. Amazed they're still in that kind of condition. My shed in Phoenix is dilapidated after 15 years . . .
Hey, I've flown across the Grand Canyon SFRA a few times. FYI generally you're not required to be on with ATC to enter the area or fly the corridors, as they're more or less class E with special restrictions. (That said, of course Center would probably prefer to have you talking to them for traffic awareness. Just that it's not actually required for flying around the SFRA.)
The restrictions include:
1. Most notably, there are areas on the chart that are no-fly below 14500 (and one on the west end that's no-fly below 8000). These are on the chart, they're clearly marked in purple.
2. Because otherwise a contiguous no-fly area over the whole park would prevent normal VFR transits, there are corridors. These have GPS coordinates on the chart, and published minimum altitudes and intended corridor altitudes. The corridor altitudes don't always agree with standard VFR altitudes for direction of flight, so be sure to brief them ahead of time. There are frequencies to monitor when using these. I typically call position on entry and exit, but generally the only folks using these frequencies are helicopter tour operators. If you're on with Center they may have you just stay on with them or they may just tell you to switch over for the duration and then back. You're supposed to monitor the chart published frequency in either case.
3. The general 2000 ft AGL restriction that applies to protected park service areas, except where necessary for takeoff/landing. The whole SFRA is a protected area, with some extensions that are visible on the VFR chart. Flying low in or around the canyons will almost certainly get you a phone call, and there aren't many places for off field landings anyway. There are better places if you want to do that.
4. A few other nonstandard rules like no cargo or parachute drops, and generally no off field landings except emergencies.
Haha. In the UK, it'd be ‘I’m on my own in the middle of nowhere, I forgot my waterproofs'. Ryan….‘I’m on my own and didn’t bring my gun…'.
It's how we roll here 🙂
Pure desert..........but you are having fun from the air....Great........very nice...........
How did anybody ever create such great panoramic videos without drones? They didn't. Great job Ryan.
Ryan, I really really enjoy your vlogs. I fly vicariously through your learning experiences. Although my flying days are over, you and others provide me with real life adventure that almost seems tactile in nature. Thanks again.
Glad to hear it
That sun and blue sky are Amazing! Love the passion and excitement you embue with these modifications you have been making to your plane, and just the joy you have about flying. You make me want to get over my fear of flying. Lol. That view is amazing! Thanks for always explaining things so well for us non-pilot peeps. Great video!! ❤️
That's pure beauty in a stark landscape. Keep 'em comin'!
Thanks for sharing. Really enjoying your videos. Love the commentary and narration about flying / procedures etc and describing what you're seeing, feeling and thinking.
Puts the viewer up there with you. 👍🇨🇦👍
The trucks appear to be about 1945 Autocar 2 axle dump trucks. Autocar is the brand and was a popular brand for many years. They are still in business and make a variety of commercial trucks. I love your channel and your videos. I am an old man who still wants to get my license and a bush plane. I have watched you and Trent Palmer both, you guys rock... Robert Knight- Gilbert AZ
Fun to see the old ruins. Enjoyed the views. 🙏
Thanks for taking us along. Love that the other visitors have done the right thing and not destroyed history. I was wondering if you were going to run into some "natural residents." Now you have me wondering about your weapon of choice. Thanks Ryan.
I probably would just take my 9mm, easy light
Oh, that visibility! Thanks for the video.
Love seeing you back in the US.
Another great vlog, thumbs up given.👍🏽 The first headset/mic was best quality.
Mic sounds very similar. Then again, I parked myself next to a big speaker at a Jethro Tull concert about 40 years ago and my hearing has not been quite the same since. Great stuff Ryan.
It was fantastic flying with you on this trip and what a beautiful day for flying....thanks! Take care and stay safe.
LOVE these new vids, what a great niche! Spectacular locations, epic drone shots and top quality commentary, as always. Can’t wait for more! Thanks
I just found your channel, your work is truly inspiring, I am an aviation enthusiast but not a pilot in the UK, your videos are incredible, thank you for sharing your craft and the skills you have, just love what you do 👍👌💪
Great history video. Enjoy seeing those old mines and dwellings from old.
Nice Ryan. You're getting the hang of it now. Nice video.
Can't wait to see your video. Love ❤ the vids please keep em coming 😊
The cabs look like they are old Macks. Years ago the manufacturers used chain drive to the rear wheels also. Check the inside of the cab on the dash, it might tell you.
Good video!
What a view
That's great and wonderful to inform us on such important issues.
Thanks for sharing this awesome adventure and the history!
Love the approach of your videos. Awesome perspective
Modern dump trucks have leaf springs front and rear or air bag suspension systems. Love the video’s
Another great video ! Thanks !
Healthy greetings, good luck to your family
Fantastic!👍
Thanks for the invite…great video and good to see around the area too. Looking forward to the next adventure!
Awesome! Thanks for the flight!
The more I see that little plane and the adventures you get to do, it really just seems like it is part of you now. Great video...thanks!
Ryan it is so AWSOME following your adventures. thanks for sharing. 😎🛩
Absolutely brilliant - thank you
As a low time has been 150/172 driver, I can’t get enough of your videos! Keep going, be safe!
So very very cool Ryan!!! Amazing historical find so glad you brought us along man!
great stuff Ryan! Keep sharing!
Some newer boards on the ceiling of that building tells me someone has been maintaining it…great video Ryan!
Nice interesting stuff. Good going back in history to see how things where.
Cool vid as usual,, nice country,,, dry country. thanks for the look around. I hope to one day be able to come over to the states/Canada for a look, such a beautiful part of our little globe 😁
Awesome! Must be great going far out and explore such places with a plane. 😃👍
20:15 - Bunch of villagers with binoculars.
Hey!! It's Ryan. Grab those sacks and we'll fill it up with Gold Nuggets that he can sell for us.
That is a nice clean panel.
So cool Ryan thank you!
DEFINITELY love this type of content. It helps me live vicariously through you... and plan my OWN trips for when I there!
Ryan. I totally enjoyed "riding with you" on this flight. Love your airplane - I really like those (many :-) Vortex Generators. Had some on my EROS 1650 Minimax. Changed my flight characteristics quite a bit. (floated on landing, for sure :-) You are definitely "the man." Thanks, N-6395T, but the "Piper Arrow" was my favorite. :-) I so enjoy following your "flight through life."
Thanks for sharing this fantastic video!
What a fun adventure today in the Adventure Fox. Really beautiful area to fly over for sure. Interesting to see the copper mine and dump trucks with no rear suspension. It would be cool to find out more about this mine and the men who worked there. Thanks Ryan, stay safe.
Why mostly solo? I enjoyed the flights in PNG with your son. I love that aspect of introducing the next generation to options they may have. My first flight was at 10 years old sitting in the back seat of a Piper Cherokee on a scenic flight from our local airport. Flash forward twelve years, and I got my Private, Instrument, Commercial, MEL, CFI, CFII at that same airport. I then worked there as a CFI/CFII and eventually charter pilot, and then it was off to the jet routes as an ATP. Anyway Ryan, share it Brother. Make some memories...
Amazing airplane to have, the Adventure Fox... and along with the electronic traffic gadgets are nice to have on board, and along with your great reporting of where you are at and to any other possible traffic... Of which you can't always see out there, or even know if it's around you... And Blessed to have very little wind around also, on landing.
First time seeing your plane - amazing job! Another great video; hope you are enjoying your time back in the States! Those desert rocks look like they'd be murder on your tires!
Ryan, It's been a while since I visited your channel regularly when you were in Papua New Guinea. I've caught the bug and have started studying for my part 107 Remote Pilot's License. I've looked for the Grand Gulch Mine airstrip on the Las Vegas Sectional VFR chart 36.32N 113.78W in the very northwest corner of Arizona. It's not even marked. Following your travels is helping me read aeronautical charts.
Great blog Ryan, really cool! You sound better with your other headset, Bose isn’t as clear! Loving your progress with your plane! Thank you!
Great Video. . Stunning views. .
Many thanks Ryan. .
I camped at the ferry strip 3 nights before this video was posted. Landed at Bar ten also. Missed this other strip.
I have always liked your content Ryan....I really like your new content!!!!
pure general aviation.
Great video Ryan!
I love it! I can see miner's walking between buildings , secretaries in the office, trucks kicking up dust, the sound of machines clanking! so glad it's preserved! and the concrete pad with no road or path...ooookay! lol
No secretaries at the mine. Just a bunch of roughnecks...
Ryan - Here's my guess about the manufacturer of the trucks you found at the abandoned mine site. I was able to find a 1930's era photograph of a Euclid dump with several features that closely match the trucks. The cab looks exactly the same. The Euclid is narrow, has a spring-mounted dump body, leaf springs on the steer axle and what appears to be a rear axle mounted directly to the frame without any visible springs. 🛩
I have followed you for a while now, and absolutely love your videos in your Kitfox. I fly an Aeroprakt A22-LS myself, which also has a Rotax 912. Greetings from Denmark.
This was fun!!!
Great content Ryan!
Audio sounds really good. Great video post.
Good video, enjoyed it. Thanks
A man of many talents. CAD, Video production, Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Commercial Pilot.
Hopefully someone somewhere has a solution for the audio interference, no difference between mics on this flight that I could hear. Keep these vids coming mucho fun to watch.
Thank you for the cool flight. Just for some background on the area, read "Desert Solitaire" by Edward Abbey. Pretty good stories for around the campfire.
Really appreciate the Garmin Pilot views as I love to replicate your flights in X-Plane 12! I was sad when you left your last job, but your videos back in the USA are marvellous!
Awesome video once again Ryan, hoping you will get your new tailwheel up and running soon as that little wheel scares the heck out of me🤣
Smaller headset sounds better on the microphone part to me. Bose is less bass but very clear too.
I flew into Grand Gulch yesterday on FS2020 after watching this 😁
Hey, wow how interesting this place is. Thanks for showing us around. You really need a gimbal Ryan, it’s much easier on the eyes when watching you walk around. Loved the old trucks, guess the copper ran out…….regards Roger
I really should get on. They r cheap. Thanks for the suggestion
@@MissionaryBushPilot no worries Ryan. Has lake Mede had any rain at all? How desperate is the situation?……..Roger
Great vids.
Greetings from Madrid...good job.
Love that you got into CAD and design. If you don’t have it, I strongly recommend getting the stress analysis features. You can define the materials and where loads will be applied. The software will expose any potential weak areas and return elastic limits and yield. Great to know ahead of time how robust a part will be.
Yes, I did have someone run the stress tests on it for me
Wow they are Joshua trees look great from there
Very cool video, flying, ghost towns and old mining camps. Bodie ghost town in CA preserved in "arrested development."
Second mic sounds a bit less bass, more treble. Both are fine to listen to. Love your channel-- flying vicariously through you!
A direct comparison between both mic/headsets, for "us" the consumer it's hands down the first headset. The first headset you sound like a person in the pilot seat talking to us, as if we were there. I mean as far as you sound. But the second headset you sound like a pilot on the radio talking to us.
Love all the upgrade ideas you come up with for your kitfox. You gotta try stuff to know what works for you.
Been watching/subbed "Ghost Town Living" since the beginning. I'm glad you watch it too. I sim-fly to Cero Gordo in MSFS, sometimes in bush planes but usually in a helicopter.
Thanks for a great trip Ryan.
The sound when you had the headphones (cans) on was better, less engine noise making it through the mic.
Cool little adventure :P, that new tail wheel should be a game changer i'm just waiting for that one to break.
Your investments is paying off enjoying your Aircraft and seeing the benefits of owning one
Great stuff. Make sure if you are flying alone you have some form of SAT communicator , like the Garmin In Reach. Come to Utah we will get a group together and hit the back county.
ok now we are going to load some bags of coffee and then back to Pearce Ferry ;) to be serious though this was an Awesome video adventures with Ryan
Ryan have you considered an oil bypass unit for a rotax sold by aircraft spruce? It would really sort out your heating issues. I have one one my 912 uls works super. Check into it.
G
thank you
Nice videography, loving the different angles. Cool if they could build a small strip a Cerra Gordo.
Thanks.....
Absolutely love the scenery. Fun trip.
I have a stratux. Great piece of equipment.
