    Why are they striking again?

  • @andrewbarbarash3116

Lead actors are paid an absolute fortune compared to their coworkers... How about they take a smaller cut and let that filter down to the writers etc? Actors supporting... Yet they're the ones making multiple millions per movie or TV series. How about cutting your fee in half to start? They'll still make a boat load of money... Or are primadona actors exempt from taking a cut to help their fellow workers who work just as hard as them if not more so.

It's not just the actors & writers ,it all the workers that worked in the entertaining industry most of their lives trying to improve Hollywoods image. Live streaming is like the cable industry ,they will always increase their pricing regardless of the people striking in Hollywood wanting a little more of their share or not.

If the actors and writers get what they want, how much more expensive will streaming be? If a large price increase comes, I'll just stick with youtube and save money

I just don't want to have to pay an arm and a leg for the streaming service I already have. They've already raised the price this year. I mainly watch old TV shows an old movies. Most of the new stuff Hollywood puts out sucks and I have no interest in. If they end up raising the prices for streaming services because the union wants to keep the low end workers employed then I'm just going to cancel my streaming services. I hope Hollywood bears this in mind.

I don’t get it… if they are only working for a few months out of the year and they are striking because they want to be paid enough to last them for the entire year…. Like why should they expect to be payed for the part of the year where they aren’t hired by a studio? Isn’t that how a contractor works? Can’t they do other work and rely on other income streams during those parts of the year where they aren’t working for a studio?
I hope someone can correct me if I’m mistaken but it sounds like contractors are striking because they want a yearly salary even if they only work a few months out of the yeah. It sounds like they just want to have a yearly salary, they work a few months of the year and then the rest of the year they either sit around or they work another job, essentially earning two salaries because they convinced their bosses to pay them extra so that they can financially float between jobs… it seems like they are just trying to eliminate the worry that goes along with contractor work, which is the ever present struggle to make sure you’re able to make enough money to last until the next job. And then if you don’t have enough to last you then you use the free time you have to do other work or other jobs. I’m struggling to find sympathy for these people but maybe I’m totally misunderstanding.
Can someone at least answer me this one question please?:
Hypothetically, if a studio hires a writer for a few months and then they let them go once they don’t need them to write anymore for the show that they were hired for, after the writer is let go, is it true that they would then be free to do whatever they want to make money? Like their time isn’t being taken up by the studios without being paid right? So after they finish the writing job they were hired for, they can then get hired by another studio or they could start working doing whatever they feel like?
    Is that how it works?
If that is how it works then What reason so they have that makes them believe they should be paid for the whole year if the studio only needs the writer to work for them for a few months? It seems like these writers just want more money without having to do anything.
Please correct me if I’m misunderstanding something
It’s like an actor saying they want to be paid for the whole year even though they were only needed for a fee months of work. What sense does that make? That seems kind of deceptive, right?

Long story short. Traditionally writers work for a few months on a show and then they are between jobs for a month or so, during that time they rely on their residual checks to survive. It's also very hard to get creative work unlike a plumber etc. So a writer may be without a job for longer time. That's why the residuals are so important. In traditional TV, the network where more transparent with viewing numbers and residuals where based on the popularity of the show. But now the streamers are hiding the numbers, and keeping all the money for themselves, they are making millions and paying out 20-30 dollars in residuals to hard working writers and actors, that's not fair. Also networks would hire writers for longer than the streamers meaning that the time the writers where out of job was less than with streaming productions. Networks would pay out 2-3k in residuals while Netflix gets away with paying out 20-30 dollars, while they are keeping the numbers secret and making millions. It's completely unacceptable. They also want to own actors likeness in perpetuity, pay a small sum and then they can do whatever they want with that actors likeness for ever. It's just not fair. That's why we need to stand with the creators and entertainers that work hard to entertain us.

Movies & TV Shows are deferred + there's too much offer.
So right now numbers tell the Studios are making profits and reducing the bill. They are so happy.
This strike will need 9 to 12 months to be really effective. That will be the moment of strength, not now.
This impulsive people only reveal actors are desperate, and that they can't wait that much.
The studios can see this, and bet the strike can be counterproductive to actors.
I hope SAG-AFTRA think of this and make a cold and long term strategy if wants to be successful.
Or ask people for money to eat, pay rent, etc for at least 1 year of resistance.
Studio numbers will be the reddest red at that time and will ensure success for actors.
Sorry but right now SAG-AFTRA is doing stupid, and as a result can disappear.
There's no right or wrong, they are playing chess. And they need to make it better.

While the working crews on these shows have never received royalties or residual pay and never will, they aren't able to work now because these high paid greedy people have brought everything to a halt so they can beg for even more. What happened to all these "essential workers" who were allowed to work through the BIG BAD pandemic? I guess they are only essential when they want to be. Isn't that cute!
