I've been thinking about it lately, and it's amazing how TNS has remained a beloved show for over a decade since its instant success! Many of those now working on the series owe its continued success to your contributions from the beginning and your appearances throughout the later seasons.
I know you made it clear how awkward it is to watch your younger self act. I’m sure anyone else would feel the same way but honestly you literally carried the show. Riley was easily the best character and it makes me so happy that you’ve gone back to season 1, where it all began! ❤

There's the nostalgic factor, of course, but there's also the deeper element of hearing what it was like creating the work from someone involved. It's that deeper element that makes these my favorite. I remember watching season 01 when it first aired on Hulu back when it was still free and you didn't need an account lol. Everyone in the show was around my age and I didn't know it was scripted lol, remember feeling so confused about the talking heads vs what was on screen (example being Stephanie throwing the dance captain audition dance, like why would you reveal that lol). You were also my favorite character because I saw a lot of myself in Riley. A bit awkward and shy, nervous about taking risks, follows directions, very anxious lol. All that to say that TNS, particuarly the early seasons, became a comfort show for me and you were a comfort character. While your reactions to other seasons are great, these are just really special.

It’s always nice to take a throwback to the past every now and then with these reactions! Season 1 of TNS is always a great nostalgia trip! This episode sets up pretty much everything that’s to come in the second half of the season and that scene with Riley and Emily at the end was just heartbreaking. Riley lost the trust of her big sister and she feels at fault for that because she was pushing so hard for Michelle to be dance captain not knowing what that would do to her relationship with Emily. She’s broken and now she needs to find a way to pick up the pieces and put herself back together again but how do you heal a rift that feels impossible to mend?
I started rewatching TNS season one after coming across this video. The nostalgia i have experienced this week was really nice. I also enjoyed watching your reaction videos they add new perspectives to the episodes i never thought of before, also the behind the scenes info is really interesting. It’s so surreal seeing The Next Step in general again, that show has been a core memory for me when I was in grade four and I love getting to rewatch this through a reaction from the actress playing arguably the main character for the first four seasons of the show Also I love getting to hear your anecdotes from there, it’s fascinating to learn about what goes on behind the scenes

I actually really liked a lot of the plot lines and the “mean” behaviour of the characters in the first season. A lot of my own experiences with dance unfortunately did have a lot of similar behaviours and that unfortunately made fall out of love with dancing. I really loved watching the first season when it aired in Australia bc I was still dealing with a lot of the affects that dance politics had on my mental health and I found watching TNS really did help bc I related to the characters and in a way it helped me fall back in love with dance. 🥰

Something that I always found a bit unsettling about the first season was how looked over Emily's mental health was. Like, the girl was going THROUGH IT. She was immediately presented as someone who fuels on praise, attention, and control, and in the span of a couple of episodes she lost it all. She had to first, accept what happened, then absolutely crush her own ego to the point where she was willing to admit to herself and others that she actually wasn't as good as she thought. Then, she had to accept her way smaller role in the team and lastly, learned to listen to someone else's leadership. I'm not a huge Emily fan but the stuff she went through in season 1 is not talked about enough
I loved season one! The natural filming style did feel like the mockumentary it set out to be. The question I have is, where does everyone watch the next step? I've been trying to rewatch and watch the old/new seasons, but I can't find it anywhere online! Please share heh :)
Depending on where you live, I'm in the UK and as long as you have a tv licence all seasons are on BBC iPlayer. Don't watch if you don't have a TV license though that's fraud! If you're under 18 ask a parent if they own a TV license
My cat was trying desperately to find the other cat when he could hear Sauble through the screen, it was very cute. Probably less so for his sister who was deeply asleep when he went to annoy her, seemingly thinking she must have been meowing at him haha Absolutely made my day to see this video. Season 1 will always be the best season and I've always really liked this episode. That scene at the end gets to me every time I watch it, it feels so real and honest and you truly did an incredible job (I mean you always do 🙂). I love your new background btw, I hope the apartment is looking the way you want it and you're getting to enjoy the space. I'd love to hear about any recent books you've read you'd recommend. It’s my second favourite season of the next step Britt but season 2 is my most favourite
I actually really liked a lot of the plot lines and the “mean” behaviour of the characters in the first season. A lot of my own experiences with dance unfortunately did have a lot of similar behaviours and that unfortunately made fall out of love with dancing. I really loved watching the first season when it aired in Australia bc I was still dealing with a lot of the affects that dance politics had on my mental health and I found watching TNS really did help bc I related to the characters and in a way it helped me fall back in love with dance. 🥰

Something that I always found a bit unsettling about the first season was how looked over Emily's mental health was. Like, the girl was going THROUGH IT. She was immediately presented as someone who fuels on praise, attention, and control, and in the span of a couple of episodes she lost it all. She had to first, accept what happened, then absolutely crush her own ego to the point where she was willing to admit to herself and others that she actually wasn't as good as she thought. Then, she had to accept her way smaller role in the team and lastly, learned to listen to someone else's leadership. I'm not a huge Emily fan but the stuff she went through in season 1 is not talked about enough

I loved season one! The natural filming style did feel like the mockumentary it set out to be. The question I have is, where does everyone watch the next step? I've been trying to rewatch and watch the old/new seasons, but I can't find it anywhere online! Please share heh :)

Depending on where you live, I'm in the UK and as long as you have a tv licence all seasons are on BBC iPlayer. Don't watch if you don't have a TV license though that's fraud! If you're under 18 ask a parent if they own a TV license
My cat was trying desperately to find the other cat when he could hear Sauble through the screen, it was very cute. Probably less so for his sister who was deeply asleep when he went to annoy her, seemingly thinking she must have been meowing at him haha
Absolutely made my day to see this video. Season 1 will always be the best season and I've always really liked this episode. That scene at the end gets to me every time I watch it, it feels so real and honest and you truly did an incredible job (I mean you always do 🙂).

Question: Seeing as Season 10 is scheduled to be shot from July 29, 2024 to September 10, 2024, (It's listed on the ActraToronto website) would you be willing to return as Riley for a cameo? ❤ I miss Riley on TNS...❤ Plus with Michelle and Eldon potentially buying the studio from Nick, it would be easier for Riley to return cuz I'm pretty sure Nick only knew Riley as Emily's younger sister and possibly as Piper's older brother's girlfriend. 😲

I absolutely LOVED TNS growing up but as a child who was watching it as it was coming out, I completely understand why splitting the E girls/lightening the tone was a choice that was made. As much as I loved the drama, I remember my Mum hating me watching it because she thought it was too bitchy! 😂

There wasn’t necessarily an episode where it was explained but regionals only had the large group dances this season for 10 dancers which is why James being pulled was an issue
