Seeing the Emperor with your own eyes and deciding that you want to ruin him and his Empire, instead of falling to your knees and begging him for mercy is pretty badass.
Talk about determination man. Is the perspective you'll expect from a predator and prey dynamic... And look at it, he succeded! Via proxy, but succeded
Erabus is such a sweet taste of villainy as this individual could be consider one of the most singular point of why the Milky Way Galaxy is such a dumpster fire, and not to mention he kills personal favorite characters in the setting and he has not face justice.
Erebus is possibly the most well-written character in the 40K universe. He doesn't have a single redeeming feature other than being the most evil bastard around.
Erebus is just one of those villains who’s actually just evil, no agreeable motive, no sad backstory, not even some attempt at redemption, just a straight asshole and that’s why I personally like him as a villain and character too an extent
The wonderful thing about Erebus is that he keeps the grand tale grounded in humanity. The Chaos Gods are just a symptom, humanity's collective psyche imprinted on a Warp still wounded from the War of Heaven. Erebus is inciting factor that aims that symptom at the Imperium in a meaningful way.
Definitely read the first two Horus heresy novels, then the novels about the Word Bearers. In those novels you get far more depth than his cartoon like 40K portrayal, plus they look deep into the Ultra Marines and a bit on the World Eaters.
Why Erebus Is A Perfect Villain? Because we hate him? And if we hate a villain who pisses us off so much (but not in a poorly written way) then he's done a good job lol
The deeper I get into the lore, the more I hate Erebus. Not because of what he does as a character, but because his existence - and everything that went into it - makes the setting weaker because of how GW used him. Erebus is the REASON that Horus fell to Chaos, not the avenue. Horus would not have fallen to Chaos without Erebus. Horus might not have even rebelled at all if not for Erebus. Erebus manipulated events to gain a Primarch-killing weapon, putting said weapon into the hands of a being who was corrupted so had the strength to take on a Primarch in hand-to-hand combat, and made sure that being was someone that Horus would want to kill with his own hands so Horus made sure that he was the one to fight that being in hand to hand combat. And then Erebus had to be the one to go into Horus' mind to actually push him over the edge. Every single step of the way, Erebus was manipulating events, and you remove Erebus... nothing happens. Any attempt to shoehorn other motivations into the fall were done after, and still require Erebus' actions to provide the push for him to act on them. One could argue that GW had no idea that the Horus Heresy would blow up like it did, and become able to support 60+ books. That GW thought that even 4 full length novels was excessive, so had to cram everything into those books about the fall of Horus as they could. But regardless of the origin of the problem... Erebus being (perhaps literally) the sole reason for the fall of Horus is a significant problem. Erebus would be much better if he was the avenue to Horus' fall to Chaos, a path that Horus had to actively and intentionally choose. (insert much fanfic about an alternate Heresy beginning, leading up to Horus believing he needs more power than he can realistically muster and so orders his followers to find Xeno or lost Human power that was considered heretical... but might be useful now) "The Path to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions" is the inspiration I would use. Horus paves the way to the Gates of Hell. Enter... Erebus. Who is a brilliantly written character, but is not the reason for the setting. Erebus is the St. Peter of Hell. The reason for the setting is Horus CHOOSING to take the power offered by Erebus. Of his own free will. No trickery (at least to the level of the current setting). No "Take the Power or Die" effery. The reason that Horus CHOOSES to take Erebus' power is multifaceted and understandable - there's a lot of reasons one could put in there that are logical and intelligent. (Demons can be more powerful than Astartes, Psykers are heavily restricted thanks to Nicea so there is less defense against them, overwhelming power brings most intelligent beings to the negotiating table so wars can be avoided, etc.) It's the wrong decision. It's cataclysmically wrong. But the most important point is that Horus chose willingly. He wasn't manipulated. He wasn't forced into this position by outsiders. Horus effed up, and you can only really see it in retrospect. He's a victim of his own hubris, whereas in the current setting, he's more a victim of Erebus than anything else. And Erebus isn't the reason for Horus' actions in the new setting, he's just the one who opened the door to Hell after Horus said "Let me in." thinking he could wield the powers of Hell for noble purposes.
@@TheLostPrimarch Indeed. If he was just using the weakness, it would be fine - that's actually what I would prefer. But he MADE the weakness in Horus. And that's where I have a problem with the character.
(Spoilerwarning) best scene with Erebus was when the Emperor transformed to the Dark King and he was so jolly while even his Wordbearerbros ran in horror XD
Anyone I have ever met online using Erebus in their handle somewhere has been a huge racist and jerk too, for that matter. Met and blocked like a dozen on GTA Online alone. My advice to all y'all is to preemptively block anyone like that online. Cheers brothers.
🤍⚪ The Emperor (if the Molech event is not created by the Alpha Legion) once entered the Warp valiantly fought the Dark Gods with his faith and devotion, conquering within himself the last pure light that still shone in the dimension now consumed, becoming in fact the true and just God of humanity. Is it too much from the outset to show him aware that having religious faith in him is vital to defending against Chaos? I really think not. How does the Emperor, during the Council of Nikea, convince his sons of the importance of Librarians? Using as example Lorgar Aurelian himself. Plus, to help Leman Russ and Mortarion himself understand, alongside his Custodes he has his new Grey Knights (with their Chapter Master Janus)! Since the Emperor is the God of Humanity, thanks to Lorgar Aurelian all of Colchis is freed and purified from the cult of Chaos (thanks to his colchisian crusaders led by the true and pious Erebus: Truth Bearers). Lorgar Aurelian is the one who then founds the Ecclesiarchy with his Crusader Order: the Frateris Militaris. Lorgar Aurelian is like Ascalon Troyes, equal to Rogal Dorn and Sanguinius! (Illuminarum is not a maul but a mace) If Rogal Dorn is the Latin Catholic then Lorgar Aurelian is the Greek Orthodox. And that's why the name of his Legion, the Word Bringers (Word Bearers + Truth Bringers). (Byzantine Crusader type)

Whatever it takes, right?
In almost every stories, they say No one is born bad. But Erebus was born evil af 😆
and it just fits like a glove
I love Erebus, he is just a perfect villain. True champion of undivided.
I think everyone can get behind "F Erebus!"
its a religion on its own
You have to respect the grindset. He went from a weak ugly nerd to a superhuman that changed the galaxy
Big E wakes up and the first thing he sees is a post it note with "Erebus did it" written on it 😂.

I wouldn't mind Word Bearer novels really exploring the rivalry between him and Kor. We rarely get those glimpses of that power struggle.

Some people play strategy wargames for fun, some people play other people for fun.
Erebus knows how to FLEXXXXX
FLEX
He was/is just living his true self. No wonder he is happy.
If they ever make a live action Horus Heresy series, the actor cast as Erebus had better be prepared for nuclear levels of heat.
*Kharn has entered the chat*
I like Kharn
...Erebus even had his redeeming arc: he slew Erda!
...Such a good villain!
True definition of chaotic evil
indeed he is, and that is what's cool about him

Since appearantly I am the first to say it I have to: Fuck Erebus!
Ah, Erebus. EVERYONE's friend. :)
is that what he told you ? :D
@@TheLostPrimarch Yeah, and then he said something about "Ere bussy"... uuh, then I think I fell asleep. Strange guy.

Damn I’m earlier to this one then Erebus was to choas
Heeeey :D
To quote Venom from his own sequel, "F*** this guy!!"
F*** Erebus!!
My boy Erebus is just misjudged that’s all he’s not bad.

The real question is: Why do we not hate Kor Phaeron just as much?
I'm only mad at Erebus for murdering Argel Tal. Other than that, I see no problem.
A story is only as good as its villains

But for some reason,he`s my fav character in wh40k(I dont like killing Argu Tal at all)
The last part of The End and The Death Part 3 made me hate him more than anything else he's done.
Erebus. Because #%*! you thats why.
