- How to dry your socks, keep food unfrozen, not get snow into your boots, transport your sleeping bag, etc. These are natural things for us, who work in or live near nature. In this video, I’m going to share 27 different winter camping tips that I use. Maybe some are new for you maybe some are obvious, or? I give you these camping hacks real-life while on a dog sledding journey in the Swedish Mountains above the Arctic Circle as I’m traveling as a guide for a group of four guests.
We are camping in a hot tent, staying in cabins, cook our meals outdoor, and enjoying life in the wild. This is just one of many week-long dog sled tours that we organize every winter.
I hope you will enjoy this video and that some of the hacks and tips will be useful for you.

We are Stina & Matti, and we live in Northern Sweden in a small place called Jokkmokk. Except for making videos, we also run a small company called Jokkmokkguiderna and a kennel called Working Husky Kennel. We offer guided outdoor tours in Swedish Lapland all around the year. During the winter, we mostly do dog sled tours, and in the summertime, it’s hiking tours, wildlife safaris, canoe, and packraft trips. We live year-round in Jokkmokk with our Siberian Husky and 2 Border Collies.

Real Winter Camping Hacks for Extreme Cold | Stay Warm & Comfortable Outdoors
Using the weather when its good is such a important advice. Then when it gets bad you are fine and can chill.
Follow the rhythm of the nature instead of fighting against it!

Loved the idea to keep things from freezing by placing them in a cooler.
Been doing Canadian winters for over fifty years and have wrapped things in coats and such to keep them from freezing.
Hearing the insulated cooler was one of those, "of course you would, it makes perfect sense. Why haven't I heard of or thought of it before" moments.
It’s really good!
You can find the more sturdy once in hard plastic. There is also o thinner one that you can find. A soft model made of fabric, isolation and som alu material.
It’s always lovely to get this ‘ahaaa’ experience. Why haven’t I done this before. :-)

Very happy to see You and the Dogs out on the Trail. Thank you for sharing your Tips 🙂
Always happy and grateful to learn new things from you Matti & Stina, great folks, great channel!

Interesting information,...Thanks, for the great advice, Matti... Hope your tooth feels better...👍
Thanks.
The tooth wasn’t a big problem. I was lucky this time.

For dental first aid I always carry dental wax. I have been lucky and never needed it but one of my workmates lost a filling and was he ever grateful I shared it with him.
I have heard about that but I didn’t find it at the pharmacy some years ago. Maybe it exists today. I have to check.

So good ✨🙏🏼☺️👌
Thanks Magnus!

always good to get safety hacks from someone who lives it
Great advice, so important to look after yourself all the time on a tour.
Thanks!
It's lovely if you can have some use of the video.

Good vid and tips Matti. Hope you have a greeat and safe season. Happy Holidays to Stina and you. All good from east Kentucky USA
Thanks!
Right now it’s low temperatures and not much snow. This gives us super good ice on the lakes and that’s safety for us!!!

The past week here has been pretty brutal. -10F at night and 10F during the day. couple feet of snow... Now it is RAINING, UGH what a mess....
Lots of good advice in this video .
I tuck gloves in my sleeves , it's nice to swtch out gloves for some warm ones.
I am very good at catching my gear on fire, LOL...
The same here. We had a pretty cold week and last night. Heavy warm winds… today it’s much more icy… :-(
/Matti
Helt fantastisk 👌👌
Kul att du gillade filmen!!!

Tip #25 Stay Hydrated: your husky shows us how @ 20:48... good dog!
ps -- I use Musher's Secret on my cracked tips and toes. Works for dogs too 😀
It’s always better if the dogs drink water instead of snapping snow.
I will check for this Musher’s secret.
/Matti
marvelous, Matti
Thanks!
Fantastic videos from you and your partner, thank you! Could you put a link for your boot grease for sale (other countries- USA)?
There is a brand called Lundhags who have this grease. Be aware that Lundhags sell both wax and grease! I use the grease!!!

Hahah, I feel your tooth pain! I was on day 8 of a 9 day Backcountry canoe trip and at dinner I had a cap come off a molar! I was upset! Finishing my ration of Scotch helped and we made it out the next day.
I didn’t get pain. It was just an old repaired part that came off.
I was a little bit lucky!
:-)
/Matti
Scotch or Brandy is not curing the problem,
you just don`t care about it!
@@stevec-b6214 Well put.
Tack för bra film. Är din gråa huvtröja köpt eller hemstickad? 🙂
De gråa tröjorna är från Himalaya woll. Du hittar en hel film om huvtröjorna som Stina gjorde i höstas. Där hittar du även länk/mail till Himalaya wool. Du kan beställa från dem. MYCKET prisvärt!!!

I have been several kilometers down the trail from dog teams at the start of their day. Could not believe the sound of the dogs when they got underway. Can understand the stress on the drivers.
It’s so stressful and not necessary! You could educate the dogs to become more relaxed and calm. Our dogs are calm if you compare but I want next level!!!
:-)

Hi! What gloves are you wearing there? Do you recommend them?
I think I use one pair of gloves with fingers(Hestra Activity Grip) and one mitten with the fingers in one’box’ and only the thumb separate. They are Taiga Grizzly. Sorry for my English… /Matti
Hello Matti! I have a question about your Black D Belay parka. Did you take it in your usual size? And in what size did you buy it? I have about the same build as you and I'm wondering before buying. Thanks in advance. Cyprien (a Frenchman who watches your videos from the French Alps)
Hello!
I have Large… but I also love to have this little bit bigger. I very often use it with several layers under.
/Matti
What grease do u use for the boots, I’m new, living outside in Canada and I’m wondering how to not go through so much boots, and they get so wet
I have heard so many different ideas about this. One friend wants the fat from bear. He take it like a pice of bacon and rub it on the shoe!
I prefer to buy some grease that is mixed with tar. I have tried olive oil but that doesn’t work well. It’s just a kind of emergency solution.
:-)
So my answer is probably a mixture of melted animal fat and tar.

Storm De Beul, 22, a nature lover who 'enjoyed being alone', was found dead in Lapland on October 30 after spending much of the year hiking solo through the remote Jokkmokk region. He became caught in a devastating blizzard the night before, telling his grandmother in a tragic final message: 'It's snowing heavily here. But don't worry, I'll survive, you know.'
So knowledge about survive in extreme cold is very important if you visiting the wilderness during the cold season. Keep your body warm and keep a cool head is my advice. Your equipment can also make the difference between life and death.
Sometimes a person can just be on the wrong place in the wrong time… It was a real bad weather that days.
/Matti
Can you not bring a plastic bottle with a wide opening to do your rounds at night? One litter will do if you not drink so much coffee.
Yes… I could but… I can’t really see myself peeing in a bottle…
🤣
But it’s a good way of doing that!
/Matti
SOP... -> Standard Operation Procedure.... applying it for decades... works perfectly fine... just now, I was getting up out of my sleeping bag emptying it.... 😊
Thank you, very handy ideas. Good luck!
Where do the dogs sleep at night
They sleep outside. You can see it in some other videos. I will soon release a video about how we are working with our dogs. How we take care of them so they get a good life out on the trail.
We already have videos from our kennel if you look at our channel.

Var är Stina? Vi saknar Stina.
Hon lever o mår!
:-)

Great video but take omega-3 supplements which may help your cracked skin
Thanks for input! I have actually started with omega-3 during this autumn. I didn’t know that it was good for skin cracks.
