Bach's music is transcendental. I've grown up in a non-musical family, never cared about classical music, been a metalhead last 30 years, yet Bach is captivating: I hear new NBS record, I literally cannot let go, must hear to the end, even if it is as long as this (or even as long as Johannes Passion), there is something beyond this world in this music. And what beautiful voices you've got here...
There are also some good metal covers of classical music pieces, e. g. Toccata and Fugue in D minor. One example I have bookmarked is “PJ d’Atri plays Bach - BWV 29 Cantata”. It’s not too metal-y but still shows that Bach’s music transcends specific muaical styles and instrumentations.
I'm glad that you are enjoying this music. If you want something really dense, try the Chaconne from Violin Partita No. 2, preferably with Szeryng, Milstein, Menuhin or Szigeti on violin. It changed my perception of the power of music. Hoomeyow!!
It is the second movement of this which amazes me uniquely. Bach has spun out the most tragic _basso ostinato_ ever conceived, with its internal counterpoint between its two ranges and diminished-fourth leaps. The chorus, pronouncing the Great Tribulation, has become the _continuo_ , essentially providing chords over this bass in its passacaglia, as the organ (and harpsichord in 1052) plays something remarkably close to a "rock lead guitar line", in its elaborate rhythmic variety and _fioriture_ . There is even a measure in the organ part where a C# and Db cohabit in the same measure. I can't think of anything like it in Baroque music.
@STEPHANM0ELLER Really don't see how that would be the case... Van D is featured quite frequently on the channel as well. What didn't you like about his performance?
I am an organist. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with his rhythm and he is absolutely not nervous. He is in fact, one of the finest Bach interpreters in the world. I only wish I could play like him.
@@scottwexlin6456I beg your pardon; I am just a pianist, and I never wanted at any means disqualify Mr. van Doeselaar as a musician! Please compare to Glenn Gould's rendition of Brandenburg No. 5: That is rhythmical stabilty!
The Sinfonia and second movement use the same music material that we hear in the Harpsichord Concerto BWV 1052 (or the Violin version, BWV 1052R). It seems Bach music is just perfect for any instrument.

Beautiful work. I am overjoyed that I have found the Cantata that Bach wroter "Wie will ich mich freuen"! I have played the E. Power Biggs version of this for two trumpets and organ. I played it for my sister's wedding recssesional with my brother takeing Trumpet 1 and his friend taking Trumpet 2 (which are the Tenor and Bass parts) and it is mad hard for them as well. They were both still in High School and both were very good players, but this pushed the envelope to the max. Up until that point it was the single hardest piece of music that either had performed! In fact this entire Cantata is stunning and perfect (of course).
please place the gist (at least) of the biblical verse covered in each piece you record for the supreme benefit of listeners, current and yet-to-be. excellent talent and music beyond all comprehension in beauty.
They clearly struggled with this one. It is unusual for this fine ensemble to bring a piece to the stage before its time. And, the first violin takes what I consider excessive liberties with Bach's carefully wrought lines in the first Aria, in this eleven-year-old performance; perhaps Mr Sato has gotten some of that out of his system by now ? Imagine if every soloist were to decorate the score likewise; would we be able to bear it ?
I have a question: Which historical correct pipe organ stops we used to performed the basso continuo from cantatas, oratorios, masses, motets and other sacred choral works by Bach and other baroque composers?
Mostly, pedal stops are 8' and 16' flute or principal foot-stops, such as Subbas 16', Gedackt 8' or Prestant 8' (in English called Diapason). In case the sinfonia of BWV 146, Leo van Doeselaar also added flute stop 8',4',3',2' (particularly Bourdon 8,'4,' Quintfluit 3' and Fluit 2') to keep the organ sound in balance with the orchestra.
What a beautiful pipe organ sound this music is❣
Moreover music became soleman.
Netherlands Bach Society bring me greeatest music pleasure.
Thanks❤
Magnifique cantate.
this sinfonie is one of Bach concertos
@@eduardo-v5b2thow many are there?
Symphony Wonderful and beautiful, good greeting from Iraq 🌹
What a continuo… Beyond other wonderful sections like the oboes or strings. But this continuo band is outstanding!
Bill Nelson & the lads were really on a roll with this album, none better and as emjoyable to listen in '24 as it was in '76
Wow. I really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.
Good that the oboes are beautifully in balance as they often dominate in some ensembles. Super performance.
Masterpiece! Thank you for such beautiful music.
Beautiful Bach and video.
Thank you!
☺Hello Netherlands Bach Society 🧡💯Enjoed your amazing music 🌹🌷🌸🥂🍰Absolutely wonderful performance ✨🎇🎊🎼🎵🎶🎹🎺🎻
Finally, van Veldhoven's another video...
Every night I listen to these masterful performances before I go to sleep. Thank you NBS!
Phenomenal as usual, and great to hear this work in so many different instrumentations!
Bach was surely Inspired by God. Thanks and Praises.True light of true light. The choir moved me over the top 😢
Bach was secular. God was dead back then already according to Nietzsche! Have a great day!
@@microfx I feel you. But what does the word God mean to you? Maybe the word is the problem but the deeper meaning can still be had.
@@microfx secularism is not the endgame clearly. look around. We need something that combines all the religions and sciences that is not a religion at all. There is a thread that connects them all. A higher truth. We just need to find it. Music, poetry and literature certainly helps in this Journey. For this reason I say Bach was inspired by God. The word God is not really the point. Seeking peace and joy and laughter is the best approach to life, wouldn't you agree?
@@microfx If Nietzsche said it, it must be true? I will have a nice day. Thank you for that whether you mean it or not.
@@vincentcornejo3759you pretty much summed up my belief system tbh. I'm not a Nietzsche guy... tried to be funny. I'm obviously an absurdist. Exploring / navigating this godly universe. It's funny how music can trigger this connection of the godly. Because shouldn't the whole atmosphere be more happy? The people who sing/play here are probably super conservative and this whole institution powerhungry. Next year my country will stop financially supporting the church ... as we wanted 1847 already or something... So I don't see how you could reform the vatican for this universal religion. Maybe the new religion will be from a science experiment / discovery ... or with psychedelics.
This performance strikes me as both workmanlike (in the best sense) and sublime. Thank you, NBS!
Omg I just was explaining to my piano teacher that I was hoping you’d come out with a recording of this! I love this piece!❤❤❤
I love Bach

I didn't think that the arrangement of the second movement of the concerto worked ... until now. A very profound experience.
I love this band!
BRAVO !
Merci beaucoup
Bravo!
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Love it. Thank you.

please place the gist (at least) of the biblical verse covered in each piece you record for the supreme benefit of listeners, current and yet-to-be. excellent talent and music beyond all comprehension in beauty.
Esperança e paz na terra
@@bach Thank you, so much.
I wonder what the first audience reaction was to this piece.
(A rhetorical question, of course.)

Bwv1052 it sounds like. I am curious. Which came first? Bwv1052’s instrumental version or the cantata?
It is supposed that the original concerto came first, Bach used the material in this cantata and later reworked it to a harpsichord concerto. See also: www.bachvereniging.nl/en/bwv/bwv-1052r
@@bach I didn’t know this. Thank you for the great info and article
