watching this trully shows how devestating the highest level monsters in heroes 2 were. 134 gargoyles attacked the titans but did only 64 damage!!!!!! with the titans retribution all garoyles were wiped out.... in heroes 2 the might stats trully mattered.
Yes, but Also take into account that the Archibald Gargoyles have only +6 additional to attack and +10 additional to defense, while at the same time Roland Titans have +11 additional to attack and +15 additional to defense. So in total Gargoyles was have -9 to attack against Roland units. This is very significant difference in HOMAM2. It like a fight between 0 defense (~1 level) hero and +9 attack hero (~11 level).
Yeah, lvl 6 units in Homm2 were something else, well at least the titans and the Black Dragons. Black Dragons and Titans were very similar in Homm 2 to their Homm 3 counterparts, so in effect, Black Dragons and Titans are the only tier 7 units in the game with the other Top units of the other factions being the actual equivalent of tier 6 units.
yeah but you can be the first using spells and that could be really important (for example, using mass haste or chain lightning or blind or a mirror image…)
There's a trick to this mission. Build a massive army in the previous mission (black dragons are the most important). Then in this mission, use the elite sorceress or hire one, put your units on a sorceress and hop on the boat. Do the looong swim. The enemy will capture your castles in the meantime, but you'll land on the archibald's beach just in time, hopefully before he gets the next week units. Now you have a big disadvantage in a weak hero, but Archibald is actually easier to defeat than Roland because you can bait his dragons to kill his own units.
its a tough fight, I always needed to get my main heroes the gateway teleport spell before I started to be able to push and wipe out his allies. Its really the game changer.
I've just defeated him. It seemed to be impossible when I played in this game more than a year ago, but now it was easy enough. I've learned teleport spell, then attacked barbarians by Roland in a second week, then warlocks (but I've lost the most part of my army). But then I've hired 3 black dragons and crushed left armies with armagedon spell. It took only a month. After that you just should to hire as many units of 6-th level as you can, and then you will easily beat Archibald himself.
Or you can just go for the mission that allows you to keep the army before the final mission and crush your opposition with 50 black dragons on week 1.
@@shadowpriest2574 Didn't work for me. I don't understand why. I captured the castle at the very final day with Sandro, having about 30 Black Dragons. But they are gone when I start this mission.
@@shadowpriest2574 Yeah. It kind of made me give up on finishing this campaign legit. I already backtracked to "Gauntlet" for this purpose and it didn't work.
@@AivottajaI already made this comment on someone else' but I think the reason that happens is because the general you start with in The Gauntlet needs to have the army you wish to carry over. I had that problem too, and experimented with it. Soldiers carried by other generals don't seem to get carried over (which doesn't make sense to me because the level descriptions says 'any troops you make will be with you in the last battle' but that's what happened) with only the one I started with possessing them being given to Roland.
I had that problem, too. From what I'm able to tell, your soldiers that carry over NEED to be held by the general you start with in The Gauntlet. Any extra generals you make won't carry troops over, or at least not that I've noticed.
Alright, you inspired me to play this campaign again. I played like a cheap prick, but finished in 181 days by reloading scenarios til they fit my purpose.

hey people, i just did some cleaning on my house and found a original copy of homm2, im currently running windows7 and i doubt it will work? any ideas where to download a full working version (since i legally own a copy lol) or do i just have to do some torrent searching?
If Archibald was smart, he would've taken advantage of the hydras multi-enemy attack. He could've attacked the crusaders and skeleton dragons at the same time
You can type 32167 to have 5 additionnal black dragons for example, but when you finish the game you are regged as cheater. But now i ve finished the game with archibald and rolland :)
I've won the campaign the other way round (for Archibald) and in finall battle with Roland Roland forces were I believe considerably stronger. 66 of titians in the first place! 44 dragons don't quite match.

I just want to know why you didn't have bad morale... 5 different unit types, as well as undead in the group. that's like -5 morale and expert leadership only gives +3 morale.

I can't remember since I played 1 year ago =/ Probably I had Expert leadership and also some artifacts. -5 is too much, I had 4 types different, probably -3, then +3 expert leadership and a couple of artifact, dunno

Non me ne intendo molto di ritagli, avevo usato un programma chiamato Hypercam e l'avevo eseguito semplicemente catturando la finestra dall'inizio alla fine; se non sbaglio però i video del gioco erano riproducibili con windows media player... pero in questo momento non ho il gioco installato e non ho modo di controllare; se riesci a recuperare una copia potresti verificare tu stesso, erano tipo un formato di file video non di quelli più comuni, nella cartella delle animazioni. Questo finale si fa prima a prenderlo da questo video di youtube direi, però è solo uno dei 2 finali, mancherebbe quello dell'altro personaggio. Ce l'ho in ita perchè era uscita ufficialmente una versione localizzata negli anni 90, però per questo video in realtà stavo usando solo il cdrom italiano, la versione installata era inglese perchè non mi piaceva l'adattamento di alcuni nomi di magie (ma il gioco avviato pescando alcuni files dal cd allora i filmati risultavano poi in italiano, lol). Il cd localizzato era il gioco completamente in italiano, manuale compreso. Per windows 7 qualche tempo fa avevo testato più versioni trovate in rete, alcune vanno, altre no, dipende se ha windows a 32 o 64 bit. Esistono soluzioni se non erro ma rischio di dilungarmi troppo. Fai un po' di prove, ciao

i still remember this game it was and still is epic and fun i always loved to mass the weakest unit and got more that 200 units at a time

So it was just animation speed set to slowest. I thought the (old)game was not harmonizing well with much newer OS/machine.
Stay with Roland. Archibald's campaign is very difficult without ogre alliance.

I didn't get my army from the end of "The Gauntlet". I had like over 20 Black Dragons, but when this started, they were all gone.
