No, you would have to be holding the other end of the line, or have it tied to your boat with you on it.

Everything I see online is listed as "sport" and all the laws I read are specific to "recreationally". What if you live in the woods and hunt an alligator to eat? What does the law say about that? I can't find it. :(

You have to get tags. No way around it, even on private property
