I just got the pattern in a fit of daredevilry and have some veg tan on the way! It seemed rather daunting but now I feel it’s doable! ❤ Are there any tips for a beginner? For example in your video on the Oseberg boot you skived / bevelled the sole edges, didn’t you? Is this strictly necessary?
I love these! I had been looking for some Turnshoes to make, and I gotta say these are just perfect in my opinion! I got a few questions in terms of materials, for example, what type of leather is that? I really like the general tone of the color. And do you have any advice on where it's possible to get hands in that type of shoe sole? thx for the video anyways:)
a great pattern, the oseberg boot, and wonderful instruction!! i needa find a bent awl tool because pushing those holes through on a drill press is arduous. thanks for the pattern and tut!! i may never buy shoes again now!
@@FoxesandRavens As i rebuild my prototype with rubber one the sole, I am wondering if using a >sharpened triangle< (instead of the flat blade style you use here) curved awl would cause holes that would tear out of the sole as you stitch. Likely why i dont see anyone using S-needles for soles i imagine, but please give me your opinion 🙏🙏
i just started these yesterday I'm so excited to wear them, that being said how do you suppose I clean them when they start getting stinky? as I whole heartedly intend to wear these daily as much as possible
Fully drying them out will help somewhat with smell, but the usual things that work for shoes, like baking powder or vinegar can also help, just use them sparingly, and apply plenty of leather conditioner after they're dry again.
@@foxesandravensleatherworki7604 thank you i was worried about using baking powder because I didn't want to dry the leather out too bad, thank you for the input
Usually maybe 3-6 hours for the sewing? It usually took me 6-8 hours to make a pair of shoes start to finish, but other less experienced people said it takes longer for them.
Id like to order a pattern but im concerned it wont ship in time for the ren faire. Could you please tell me how long it would take to ship to Tucson AZ?
Hey there, so we only offer digital patterns, which you download and print at home (or at your local library/copy center). No longer offer kits. This is quite an advanced project, and can easily take 18 hours to complete two shoes, so I wouldn't recommend trying it on a tight schedule. However, if you're excited to try, you can get access immediately!
Hey there! Unfortunately I don't make the kits anymore, but I'd recommend getting in touch with the crafters on our facebook group, someone from there might be able to help you! facebook.com/groups/559847828432531/
Well they didn’t have chrome tan leather either (which the uppers were), and probably not most of the tools I used to make these. I’m afraid the rabbit hole of what is and isnt historically accurate goes very deep. But sure, some linen thread would be cool.
What a great video!
I wonder if this would work with fabric instead of leather.
The shoes look really comfortable.

i have blown my own mind, i cannot believe i made a shoe..so cool, thanks so much!!
Glad to hear it’s working so well for you! Mastering the curved awl is the hardest part, but worth it 😊

Where to purchase a kit?
Amazing work! Thanks :)
My pleasure! My tutorial skills have gotten a bit better, I hope, more and better to come in the future!
@@FoxesandRavens I'm sure :) I really like your tutorials and your work.
Where can I get this kit?

Hi, how long does it take you finish the shoes after the raw pieces are cut und punched ?

Where do you get the actual kit? I only see the pattern on the site... I want to make a pair in US men's 14, but I'd prefer to do it from a kit

Are the kits sold out? I could not find them on your website..
Unfortunately I no longer sell the kits, but hopefully another artisan will be making them in the near future!
you are amazing
Hello love the videos and love the shoes how can I contact you about making and selling these beautiful works of art for others that may want a pair
Hi Earl, feel free to send me an email, fox@foxesandravens.com
JA!
Need some heavy waxed linen thread for your shoes? Ditch the plastic. They had no plastic back in the day.
