- In 2019 I visited Barbados for the first time in around 10 years. I've always loved Barbados from its glamorous hotels, delicious restaurants and pristine beaches.
This time it was my first time staying on the south coast of Barbados at a hotel called the Little Arches Boutique Hotel.
The Little Arches Boutique Hotel is a very friendly hotel in Barbados with welcoming staff and luxury rooms. It boasts impressive sea views and is perched along a lovely Barbados beach called Miami Beach.

Yes Ella! Incredible storytelling! Such a perfect car to get off the beaten track - it's basically a tank! The hotel room looks great, but great to see that the staff made your stay even more special. Truffle chocolates and a bottle of rum are always a good pluses too haha. That rooftop looks awesome!

Welcome drinks and treats definitely help make one feel welcome. Love the rooftop dining with the sunset over the water. If you can still see purple clouds I say it still counts and you didn’t miss it.

What a lovely hotel/apartment. Yes, that car- my sort of vehicle. How romantic. One of the great things about traveling is getting to taste the different local dishes. Yum! Mouthwatering.

Wow, that opening shot is so stunning with the sound as well! Great opening you immediately got my interest and attention with that opening sequence! Ahh, that car is awesome! really love jeep kind of cars! most have been fun driving it. Also, a great slow-motion driving sequence truly enjoyed that and great music choice for that one! I really fitted the video. Wow, Barbados looks so beautiful too. Never thought of going there. At least wow that restaurant with the lights looks so cozy and awesome to eat at! Nice rental car; reminds me of the Suzuki Samurais. You had a MUCH smoother experience procuring your car than we did upon arriving in Croatia! Gotta love the super-friendly islanders. April wants a rum punch welcome drink! And that coconut bread sounds yummy. Plenty of pillows; a must for April, hahaha. That's how I pour drinks, lol 😎 Except with just a splash of punch, ha!

Oh man, what happened with your car in Croatia? All hotels should take note about welcome drinks ;) Oooh tough question. I'd probably say the ribs. They melted in my mouth!
It seems like every time I go to rent a car out of the country, and because car rental employees are on commission, we are slapped with exorbitant fees...in Croatia, they did not see that I had bought insurance ahead of time, and I did not have a print-out proving it, so after traveling for 20+ hours and going back & forth with them for almost an hour, my hand was forced to sign the documents so we could get a car and then I disputed it when we returned, but they denied most of it--at least they reimbursed me for the erroneous fuel charge!! Needless to say, we are going to be very meticulous when renting a car for our Greece trip next month! ...you'll have to come to the US and I will make you some ribs; they are well-known for being amazing 😎

I feel happy just watching the welcome you got, so I bet in person you must have been buzzing with happy sunshine feels inside 😊 Well, it's that or all that extra rum you keep adding to your drinks 😉 Was a set menu between the two of you enough? I'm such a glutton (especially when I travel), I'm more likely to order a sharing platter for two for myself than to share one meal 😂 Great video 🙌
Yeah it was a really lovely place to say! I couldn't finish my rum punch but Lewis had it and it made him a tad tipsy 😝 I must have no appetite as I was rolling on the floor feeling like a fat whale after that meal! I'm hungry all the time but can only eat small portions. Little and often. I think I'm a grazer! How do you eat so much?! 😝

Yah, I don't normally do luxury trips, haha. I used my phone to navigate. There are plenty of offline maps available. I just downloaded it beforehand and then it worked like a dream :)
That dinner place looks awesome!!! And what to think about the great car you are driving around. Not even talking about getting started with rum in your room.

We are going there in a couple of weeks and plan to stay in an apartment so we can go and explore the island, don't really want to be stuck in an all inclusive hotel..
Can you recommend any reasonable places to stay?
Would you recommend the west or in the south?
Where is the best place to hire a car or 4x4 and are they automatic or manual and how did you book it ?
What are the prices like .. Can yo give me some examples
Are all the beaches accessible for the public
Is it safe ( Even in the remote places)
Did you see anyone fishing ( Angling from the shore) I am hoping to go?
What is the best currency
Can you recommend any nice secluded beaches that you can drive to away from the tourist areas ?

Hi Jason! OK I will try my best to help here :)
1. I'd recommend having a look on Airbnb for some good deals. Hotels and resorts can be quite pricy. Somewhere which I really liked the look of but haven't stayed yet is www.ecolifestylelodge.com/ but this is on the East coast which you may not be looking for. It's quieter and very beautiful!
2. I loved Little Arches in the south but I think it's a gem in the south as most places I saw in the south were huge resorts like the Hilton so I'd take a look at the West instead. Although Barbados is not a huge island so you will have access to the whole island from where you decide to base yourself.
3. I hired with Drive-A-Matic and loved it. Here's their website: www.carhire.tv/ Cars in Barbados are automatic by default but I believe you can request manuals of some vehicles. Drive-A-Matic has a huge range of cars starting from very affordable prices like $37 USD per day. You can book online via the website or I just emailed them :)
4. Regarding the beaches, this one confused me! I've been going to Barbados for years and beach access has always been super easy but more recently, with more development, it is harder to find an access point to the beaches on the West Coast. All beaches are publicly owned, it's just a challenge of finding a spot to stop off at. The East and South coast beaches are much easier to track down, hehe.
5. I'd say it's generally safe. But like anywhere in the world, I'd always be careful and not flash valuables or carry too much cash on you.
6. On my most recent trip I didn't see any but in the past I have when walking along the beach. The West Coast is very developed so I think you would be more likely to see this in the south. If you like fishing, I'd recommend checking out 'Oistins' which is a fishing village in the south. On Friday nights they have a Fish Fry market which I hear is wonderful :)
7. Bajan Dollars is the local currency but many places also take USD. I recommend taking a bit of both.
8. Bathsheba beach on the East coast is stunning. It's far away from the tourist area. To be honest, along the East coast I think you can find many beaches that are quiet. Just be aware that the sea is not for swimming in as this is the Atlantic side. The sea on the West coast is much calmer but it's hard to find a secluded beach there. I used to just walk up and down the beach on the West Coast and you can find some nice spots by doing that but since I did this, development has increased significantly so I'm not sure if it's the same.
