  • These are video shots of Burlington Northern, Electro Motive E9A's arriving, departing and passing nonstop through LaGrange, Illinois. The tape was recorded in August of 1990. By this time, the BN (now BNSF) was the last operator of the E-unit or "covered wagon." on the entire Metra system (the Chicago & North Western Railway had retired its E-units about a year earlier).
A number of things to note while viewing this video: the lack of ditch lights on the EMD E9's, how a few pedestrians, motorists and even a bicyclist show little regard for the two other "live" mainline tracks (with possible speeding trains). And speaking of speeding trains, watch how one commuter train blasts through on an adjacent track while another train is stopped with passengers detraining. Today, passenger and freight trains must stop before passing through a Metra depot where another passenger train is stopped for passengers. Finally, hope you enjoy the shot at about 8:40. 3 for the price of 1. Just "dumb luck" I caught that one! Thanks for watching!
