- Lil Bow Wow was a unicorn in the early 2000s. He was the first artist you could call an industry plant. Thing is, he actually deserved the spot he was controlling. His impact since 5 years old was one of the strongest in hip hop history. He was a star since day one, that had all the ingredients in that era to have a better career than he ended up having. Has he fallen off? Here are 3 Growth Stunts in his career that cost him not to reach expected heights.

Hair nappy, but I'm happy.
Pocket full of dough
Bow Wow is the young Goat, but he always tried to fit in when he didn't have to. He was supposed to be a trendsetter but he struggled with being Shad Moss & Bow Wow. Most child stars have a hard time as an adult because they're so used to being told what to do, it's like they cant think for themselves & when they do, its always bad decision because they never got any control of that part of life until later on.
@@christophermiller6835 the number 1 problem with parents is that they always expect kids to follow orders, but they never teach kids to have their own opinions.
@@onlyone23km I wouldn't say it's the number 1 problem but I get what you're saying.
From e yo representing so slow...do to I’m the flyest dude walk-in thru junior high school
He had so much so young, that he turned into a super entitled, spoiled adult who doesn’t really know how to function because while he was supposed to be learning character, everyone made him feel like he was the best thing that ever happened to them
Well said
Exactly!! He’s very Entitled.
@BeautyandtheBritt....yea, that part.

Really nice guy in person when you meet him. It’s just tough growing up the way he did and having the world watch you grow.
You couldn't have said it any better 💯👌🏿
Well said sir!
Bow wow had a solid 7 year run from 2000-2007. If you think about it he was able to reinvent himself in 2005 dropping mature adult R&B hit records from just being a child star. He would’ve had probably a 10 year run if he would’ve done a collab album with Chris Brown around 2008 or hopped on songs and aligned himself with Drake early on.
This is a very good take💯
Yeah I'm not seeing where his growth was stunted of anything he exceeded expectations
He was almost close to Drake cause Bow was signed to Cash Money from 2010 to 2014-15, I believe. It's just Birdman screwed him over in his deal along with other Cash and Young Money artists. That delayed his career cause we never got the "Underrated" album and his other music has been shelved or not advertised as big as Drake, Wayne, Nicki and Tyga at the time. I still fw him because he was the only rapper repping my hometown, Ohio, during his run.
He definitely has a solid catalogue
Exactly and most child stars don't last that long. Definitely not a stunted growth

I think the show went down hill because of him. It turned into a kid show, us that were adults who watched it saw it age backwards from the host to all the children in the audience to the videos becoming child like. We found MTV 2 and the like and was able to enjoy it and wasnt too effected when BET and MTV got rid of music video programming for tv shows and reality tv.

I agree, one thing I see is the rap game is hella competitive & incr you are forgotten it's over. Like one minute they can love you, then the next they resent you.
He had some hits...can't take that from him. His mentality never developed.
Bow Wow also really wanted to be a rapper and live that rapper lifestyle. Dude shouldve seamlessly transitioned into acting, seriously.
He did for a bit he must’ve stopped
Growing up hip hop let’s him do both. Party & Drink, while being televised. But at his age, how much partying & drinking can one man do? You would think he’s in his early 20’s or something.
He’s actually a good actor within the films he’s played in 🤷🏽♀️
He's been acting since he was young...nd he's a great actor
He is good actor. I said that as well
Bow Wow has three things going for him - 1. he is young 2. he knows and understands the industry and business 3. he has experience with all his years in the industry - in my opinion - Bow Wow just needs a good run of movies to be back in the game - throw him a TV show - and he will be right back in place - he is the type that will always be in the game - why ? - because he understands the industry
I give him that he's a good actor. I would rather see him act honestly then on that crappy show he's on now.

Bow wow was an adult when he signed with Cash Money. He wasn't 16 what you're talking about when he turned 16 during the unleashed years he didn't leave JD. Jd left the label Columbia and took So So Def to another label. Bow Wow couldn't leave with him because of his contact with Columbia so he was forced to stay. That's when columbia brought in a Young T.I. to ghost write that project for him. Columbia saw it didn't work and brought back JD to produce the albums Wanted, The Price Of Fame, and New Jack City 2

They said don't nobody need to know how you actually got to where you are it's your hard work that got you there. Apparently they knew some stuff that I learned in the long run! Weird story on how bow and his mom got to the concert to be “discovered” by snoop, they never knew who sent them the tickets and booked the flight. He’s a legend by accident in my opinion because he was the first new millennium child rap star, he didn’t plan it it just happened. You’re right he doesn’t have a style it just go with whatever is popular at the moment.
He was never original he had no identiy really no personallty. He just like all those disney stars when we grew up we out grew him simple. He simply did not know how to be himself because he don't know himself
So he just randomly got sent plane tickets and tickets to the show and then blew up naa that was planned
@@atlhotboy4852 I agree but that’s the story his mom tells.
@@Jairusd88 of course I'm sure she legit didn't know but the powers that be had been watching
I feel Bow wow failed to recreate himself when he became an adult. His lane ended as a handsome teen rapper who all the girls liked. Now he had to find another lane. Are you a gangster rapper or a conscious rapper. In his era it was only two lanes for rappers basically. It's more lanes now. That's stunt number one to me. As a teen rapper he didn't write his own rhymes. I heard TI use too write his rhymes. He don't got the pen manship like other rappers and he didn't develop in that area. In his era you had to spit a 16 it's not like how it is now. That's stunt #2 for me. Stunt #3 Bow wow isn't as skilled lyrically as other rappers from his era. He's a step beneath them. Great channel loved the video
Not a bad analysis on your part he's a great performer with star quality but as he got older it just became difficult for him to crossover which usually tends to happen with child stars!🤷🏾♂️💯
T.I wrote his Unleashed album. Just about every other album was written by JD, ROC or Brat.
That makes no sense. Bow recreated himself many times being involved in many different avenues in the entertainment business! The only thing that hurt Bow was him not taking advantage of the internet and putting a brand out or label of his own and fully committing to that. He also did write his own stuff around the time ti started helping him and they would work collectively not just ti writing his whole rap
He should’ve just transitioned into acting as an adult.. He had a full run of a rap career (15+ yrs) by 21. It was time to move on.
Bow wow did later start writing himself and was pretty good , he used to have freestyles on RUclips probably arount the time he signed with Young Mone, but I think what killed him is the interview he did saying he was better then the greats.I think it was XXL it basically black balled him .
Not to mention, he’s not mixed, his mom and dad are both black
he said his dad was mixed. guess he was lying as usual lol
He just never found himself , they put an image on him at a young age and it's hard to come back from that.
Bingo!!! You the only person that hit the nail on the head. Once you're labeled as a child star people look at you the same way forever
This guy is a legend no one can’t this from him. He opened the doors for a generation.
Who did he open the door for? Send me to one interview where someone says bow wow is what made them take making music seriously?
Lil Wayne stayed under his mentor ended up carrying an entire record label on his back and became one of the greatest rappers alive Lil Bow Wow left his mentor and became an Instagram meme moral of the story Bow Wow could have been Lil Wayne lol
That’s a fact!!
@@iamanobody2805 I don’t think he was referring too lyrical ability or work ethic. He’s always had his rhymes wrote for him or co-wrote with others. Work ethic as far as music was never high level. When he say as big as Wayne. He just mean as a rapper. He should’ve took off as he got older. And he might have had he never left JD. And put more focus into his music rather than his acting.
I AM A NOBODY I remember that moolie tried to play electric guitar 😂😂😂😂

this is an accurate assessment 👍🏽I had literally every Bow Wow release up until the Greenlight 3 Mixtape and I mean everything Like Mike Soundtrack, The Face Off collaboration with Omarion but it was during that Cash Money run when he lost my following.
Bow Wow was my guy from his first song, such a cute, cool, talent. He never had a chance though, exposed to way too much at a young age and wasnt seemingly protected. It's for their own good that you still keep them grounded and disciplined. From as young as he can remember, he was adored, so they dont know how to take the harsh judgment when they lose that love from the fans. Wish him the best🙏

Problem is even IF he made a hot song today, he's always gonna be Lil Bow Wow to alot of us and that holds him back.
I remember when romeo came out with that diss song U can't shine like me. It's crazy that it is estimated today over 8,000 rappers have Lil in their rap names.
He had a good run the thing was he never had his own style he never found out who he was as an artist it shows now with his weird attempts to stay relevant he could have been like nick cannon and hosted TV shows after rap
StuntedGrowthMusic are u gonna do any RnB groups cause if so you should do anybody that was signed to bad boy
Once he cut his hair that first time... he's still a living legend in my book
Legend fuck no
yep 💯
This was well explained and respectful.
Very good points made. Here's my observations over the years.
It's kind of a unfortunate as I feel that Bow SHOULD be in a more respectful position like a Drake since he led the pack in his class. I felt Bow's first bad decision was leaving JD and going to Cash Money which just had too large of a roster with some artists who never released full projects. So you hit that one the head!!
Bow went from from being a big successful artist to being a mixtape artist but his Greenlight tapes were 🔥 But they still didn't give him the buzz that he was use to receiving. Because he was still in his prime, but just with the wrong team. Cash Money/Young Money was poppin back then so I can understand Bow wanting to go that route. But he was never gonna shine there.
I know that he was getting more into movies and doing CSI Cyber shortly after or around that time but he then talked about retiring at only 27-28 which he should have never broadcasted. It's not like he was putting a lot of music out anyway. Because in his eyes, he was starting to feel himself as an actor..lol...but then that slowed down. CSI was cancelled.
Yes, he was a big child star BUT I felt in his mid-late 20s was the time for him to give his fans more studio albums as a grown man to show more growth as a grown man, not a teen rapper or 20yr old rapper. He had more chapters to write. Him and JD should have just went back to the drawing board.
Yes, he's sold out tours and had Like Mike which was a huge success for him. But when you look at the last 10yrs, he's had some highs and lows (more lows).
He's now starting to release music again and I still feel that it's really not being received due to a few things: One...his donkey activities on IG in the last 3-4yrs, secondly, him having not released much music on a bigger platform in years and lastly, ppl just don't care about a Bow Wow project..🤷🏾♀️ Bow has always had a big label pushing him so that also effected him. It's a new era of artists now. His recent stuff is just aight but nothin to talk about. And Bow raps better than 90% of these rappers today BUT he doesn't have an IDENTITY in 2021 as an artist. I honestly feel the best move will either be him doing a collab album with Omarion (they have great chemistry) OR with other male r&b artists (maybe even CB just to get back in that space) because that's always been his lane. But now he wants to be a wrestler...Again, goes back to your point about him just not really having a focus but just trying to fill up his resume with whatever..lol. Yes, the rap game gets old. But he's only gonna be 34 next month. Drake STILL out here breaking records...Jay Z is over 50 and still out-rappin young dudes. He NEEDS to start back working with JD. Pimpin is cool BUT there's no "magic" there. His biggest consumers has always been females so cater to that market. I think what he really wants is the exec job at BET which would be perfect for him. I'm NOT feeling the wrestling venture but hey, this is Bow Wow..lol
The Collab Album with Omarion was FIYAAAH!!!
We've seen Bow WOW from a little Pup up to now🤷🏽 He's a hard-working Grown Man very talented! He has earned His keep 🖤

I remember when his first video dropped and he was bunny hopping a razor scooter. It gave me the exact same feeling I always got from R Kelly videos... where I'm looking around at everyone else like "Wait you don't see what a dork this guy is??!"
I think Bow should be giving kudos just off the strength he came in the game so young and he's still in it without being a full blown drug addict, alcoholic, insane, or passed away! Most children actors hardly have a career life expectancy this long
Could you do a feature on Juvenile? Had a very solid run from mid-90's to around late-00's, was the first real star of Cash Money. But, it feels like he could still be coming out with radio hits to this day, sort of like the way another aging southern rapper Yo Gotti has managed to do, if he had the right people around him.
