This! if Mythical, who uploads upwards of 10 videos a *week* can afford to have their videos completely free, so can watcher. (I know Mythical has the society, but watcher has a patreon so i feel like that is still a fair comparison)
They posted an update before you posted this vid. The future is now. 😂 Thankfully they’re putting up videos a month later on RUclips. A month early on the streamer. I’m just glad they responded and acknowledged the fanbase.
We were laid off as veiwers. Yes seems that way. ..... But they have a huge patreon too and merch and affiliates... no to mention built in audience... they nuts...
The fact that watcher didnt thought about their international fanbase. 6 dollars in my country it’s almost 4 times the value. It’s insane. I also think that their new videos are going to suffer a decrease in views. Once new eps are upload in watcher tv, they are going to be re-upload somewhere else, so when the “new” episodes drop on youtube, there will be already thousands of people who already watched it…
They didn't think this through at all. Even in the US $6 is a lot of money for people to spend on one channel. A subscription to Netflix, which has hundreds more videos than Watcher, costs about twice what they want. It's too much when people are paying 30% more for food than they were three years ago.
This was a dumb idea on their part. They have way too many employees and they STILL hire freelancers when they shoot in location. They have(had) 13,000 patreons which, at $5/month is $65,000 a month and some of them give more than $5. They are wasting too much money with high-end production equipment and a Hollywood office space. They may not want to lay people off, but they shouldn't have hired them in the first place. If you want to claim to be "struggling" then maybe you don't need a "production assistant" in a series where you play video games. They need to stop living large and acting like we should be happy to finance that while some fans struggle to pay rent or buy food. To your question, I am able to spend the $6 but I will not be doing so. The reason I have money to spend is partially because I don't spend it on things that aren't worth it. I have been watching these guys since Buzzfeed and, though I like their content, there is no value to me as a consumer for me to pay for something that I have been getting for free. The money they plan to spend will not make the content better for me. I don't care about high-quality production - I care about creative content. Spending money without improving the content in the metric that I care about is not worth money to me. As you say, I pay for Netflix and there is no comparison. If they put all the content they have on their streamer, it's less than 400 vids. Not worth it. Bottom line - I'm not going to pay to see content that I've gotten free and the attitude they demonstrated in their "Goodbye RUclips" video was very arrogant and dismissive of the people who got them where they are. No way am I going to reward that sort of behavior.
Imagine thinking your one channel that makes maybe 5-6 videos a month has the same $6 a month entertainment value as the lowest tier of Disney+

They have 30 full time staff... to much. ...
They have 25 people according to what they said, but yes, it is WAY too many.

Again!

Little late in this one they already changed
If I'd already edited the vid I'd post it too lol.
They didn’t change anything. They’re just backtracking because this decision was so fucking terrible.
