Great video. It's good to see American farming in full swing. Most people don't know how the food gets to the grocery store, or the work that goes into producing the product. Thanks for sharing...........
It was so hard to find any information on what the work actually was so we had to create this video😃 It was super interesting learning about the sugars beets... tell your wife thank you 🙏
Hey thanks for coming to our little town and helping with harvest! I seen y'all working the piler several times I was driving semi for VS Inc! I was wearing the big cowboy hat! Hope y'all come back for this season. Awesome footage! God bless. 🙏🙌
Our pleasure! We are already signed up for this season in Sidney! Please dont hesitate to say hi when you see us in 2021.....we hope to be in the factory yard again.
We did get paid well for unskilled labor. They even paid us 4 hours a day on days we did not work due to the weather. That was a great experience, we look forward to doing it again next year. 😀
Just amazing how much time, labor and heavy equipment goes into such a simple product. Really makes you think about everything else we eat. Very enlightening. Thanks for the video showing how many people are there with RV's for the seasonal work and the process of getting the beets from the other farms, etc.
Thanks guys that was fascinating. How long are the beets stored there and what happens to them next? You should have taken a pic of you guys holding pitch forks the tradtional farmer shot.
I love the pitchfork thumbnail idea! They try to use all the beets by February or March. The longer they set the more chance of rot they have. They can make syrup out of the beets and store the syrup until it's time to make sugar. That was a great experience, we can't wait to do it again next year. 😀
John go over to advanture vanman he shows how he drove the truck to harvest the beet and then to drop them off it is amazing ...i believe he was in north dakota but the prcoess is amazing
Watched 2/22/21 WOW...tough work😳😳😳 You two amaze me!! Great footage as always!! Thank you so much for the beet tutorial💖 The process is so interesting!! HAPPY TRAILS🤠
You can't get away from wearing that orange, Dave. Thanks for the in depth video, guys. The beet harvest was the first workcamper job I heard about a few years ago. It's cool to see how the operation works and get first hand accounting of the camp and work experience.
The orange gear seemed better somehow this time around 😜 That was a great experience and I look forward to learning more harvest jobs in the future. This seasonal work is fun stuff..you get to learn while you make money but not stay too long and get tired of it. 😀
Great job on your coverage of the 2020 sugar beet harvest. Glad we left when we did! We got caught in the snow storm coming across ND. We finally made it to TN and our kids. We will celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with them and then head further south! Great meeting you both and your pup! lol
Great meeting you as well Joe! Glad to hear you made it to family and warmer weather! We are currently in Idaho jumping hot springs and loving it. We got down to 6 below zero the other night and our new heater has been doing good. We hope we see you again somewhere down the road. We are glad you stopped by our van and introduce yourself! 😀
Thank you for sharing your unbeetable experience! That is strenuous work in all kinds of weather. I seriously appreciate your sharing it. Looking forward to more of your seasonal work experiences. Fascinating!
Wow that was really interesting and informative. It was very cool to see how American farmers get their produce to the processors and market. Geez that looked exhausting but rewarding. A wage well earned. I bet it’s really fun meeting other nomads. I’m still working on getting on the road but am super grateful I have a retirement pension to finance my travels. I’m way too old and out of shape for that kind of hard work 😜. Happy and safe travels 🐶🚐❤️and I’m glad Roodle has his folks back to play with.
We were so happy for the farmers! Last year did not go well for them with the weather and they had the worst year ever. This was a good year for them and they were all smiles! Some of the smaller farmers drove their own trucks in. We did meet lots of other nomads doing the same thing! We had a fantastic time and look forward to doing it again next year. We have been spoiling Roodle nonstop! I can tell he is happier now by the way he sleeps on his back with on leg stretched up to the ceiling. 😂😂😂
Awesome video guys, very educational. Kinda felt like “how it’s made” or something on science tv. Glad you made it through those rough conditions ok. Hope to see you soon, safe travels!
Thank you! I do have to admit Moab looked more fun and we were a bit jealous. I hope you are having a fantastic time and look forward to seeing you again! 😀
I live in Vancouver, Wa and have a beach house on the long beach peninsula. If you are ever in this area and would like to spend a couple of days at the beach, my house is open to you. It is easy to use... key is always out there. There is a dog run. I used to let folks take dogs out but had too much trouble with the boys wanting to claim my couch and chairs so.... now... no dogs allowed in the house. The house is a 2 min walk through the dunes. the driveway is fairly short... may 25’ but you can park in front of the house. Private gravel road. The house is about 2 mi south of Ocean Park, WA and about 9 mi. north of Long Beach. I REALLY appreciate the way you share the locations of the great places you camp. Take care, mary
We would love to meet up sometime! Your beach house sounds amazing. I just know Roodle would love the dunes. Thank you for the invite as it could happen. We are heading to Oregon this summer and from there we don't know yet. 😀
@@oneadVANtureatatime . Great! The beach house is just 40 min north of Astoria, Oregon. Realized my message was a little confusing. The house is a 2 min walk from the beach on a easy walking path... through the dunes. Another really nice thing... you can drive for many miles on the beach during low tide. There is a driveable entrance to the beach every few miles from the town of Long Beach to Ocean Park . Camp fires are allowed on the beach if it isn't too windy. Long Beach is a tourist town but not too crazy. The house isn't fancy... I don't rent it out... I just let friends and family use it. There is a 20 and 30 amp outlet available in the garage for RV plugin. Hope you can make it up there. I am sure Roodle will love running on the beach. I know my dogs do. 🙂 Take care.
Awesome video guys! You had some crazy weather to contend with huh? And dang, those machines are oldies! Our weather was near perfect conditions. Which meant we were done sooner then expected. Can’t wait to do it again next year!
Soaking in hot springs is the perfect ending to the beet harvest! I wish we had headed further north after watching your video! We also look forward to another beet harvest next year. Will you choose Minnesota again next year?

On the note of safety, you will be happy to know we invested in a set of microspikes for our shoes. They have certainly helped me from falling on snow and ice already. 😎
Great, informative video! I have watched Adventure Van Man do this for a few years now. It's always good to see a different take on things. One question...do you buy your own clothes/boots for this, or are they furnished? The pay is great since they throw in a camping spot with full hookups, but since factories around here pay around $15, and even McDonalds will soon be around that. I'm not sure anyone around here would make the trip for that kind of pay. That said, it seems like the perfect job for RV'ers who need to build cash reserves. Thanks!
The benefit is that a van lifer is only expected to be around for 3-4 weeks, then they can roll on down the road, still in good standing for next year.
We went to the thrift store and bought insulated pants and a coat just for this job. We already have good boots. The town we were in had 3 thrift stores and they were some of the best! Great question. Thank you for asking.😀
Hi guys! Wow, what an interesting video. Very cool to see how the beets grow and how they are harvested. Fascinating! Those beet piles are huge! It sure looks like you had a rewarding experience. You got some great video footage...so enjoyed seeing the process. The rain and mud day did not look fun, lol. Great drone shots! So many beets. How did Roodle hold up? Thanks for sharing this experience. Good job!
Yes! Let the good times roll. We have been spoiling Roodle to make up for lost time and he is beginning to settle back into fun mode. We found ourselves talking about your rib cooking again the other night! The hot springs around Stanely Idaho(where we are now) have been wonderful. One of them had several waterfalls of hot water....thats what we call a hot shower 😂
The free RV park is what sealed this seasonal job for us. It was fun to learn about the job and get paid! We met some very cool people along the way. We can't wait for next year. Take care and thank you for all of your comments, we appreciate you! 😀
Strange year this year. We had to stop because of the heat as well but 3 days later super cold. First time I've hauled beets in a snow storm! Great season though. All the beets were harvested. Not like last year when an early snow storm kept most beets in the ground unharvested.
I think we picked the right year to learn this job, last year sounded pretty hard. We look forward to next year. Seasonal jobs rock! Take care and soak in a hot spring if you get the chance. 😀
Working for it. Easy to see you are proud of your accomplishment and you should be. Great job! Too many people looking for a handout that are capable of earning it themselves from the many opportunities out there. Earning money, living simply, and enjoying Gods creations. Congratulations!
Thank you! We had a great time learning about something we knew nothing about and getting paid for it. With this type of lifestyle that money goes a long way! Life is good. 😀

Hi Tanya. That's not good for us to say the least. We appreciate the feedback and will do some investigating. We have a new video coming out every Saturday and sometimes an additional video on Wednesday.
Full disclosure... I watched this video with no audio. I was listening to my favorite streaming music service TIDAL. So only judging from the video, this is by far far far superior to all the Adventure Van Man's videos I've watched. I'm becoming a big fan of your channel.
Thank you for the huge compliment! We are having a fantastic time exploring and sharing what we find. We are honored to have you watching our videos. 😀
Awesome video! Are these all Farmers from different farms from different areas of Montana bringing in their beets and getting weighed to sell their Beets by the truckload to the sugar beet Factory to pay them???
Yes you got it all right! Some of the farmers drive their own trucks while others pay drivers to take their beets to the piles. They do get paid by weight and by the sugar content of the beets. We took samples of beets from trucks to test sugar content. It was fun to get paid and learn about the harvest. We look forward to doing it again next year.
I looked at Brians video AdventureVanMan, he was a truck driver, and drives a van and lives out of his van as well. He to has some awesome footage of the harvest this year.
Hard work, and sounds like a good AdVenture for you! I grew up with GW sugar nearby in Colorado. good to find out how the beets get from field to factory. Do they produce the sugar onsite? Enjoy your well-earned rest!
Yes, they make the sugar right there at the factory! This was an awesome experience and we look forward to doing it again along with any other seasonal jobs we find.
+Kandy Hilton Hi Candy! Yes, we took Roodle out on our breaks and lunch. And if the weather was nice we would play ball at the park after work. The first few days he was adjusting but he did fine after that. Our friends who worked in Minnesota did opposites shifts so someone was always with the their dog. Last year we were there for 23 days and worked a total of 14 days (9 non working days due to weather) ..... so not to bad.
This job we heard about from other nomads and then got online for more details. We are still new to seasonal jobs so I am not sure how we will find our next one yet.😜 We do want to look into the Cherry harvest in late spring 🌸
That’s a pretty interesting chapter of your life! Will you go it again? I’m intrigued! Good job with the explanation! How many shifts in a day and how many people did you work with? We’re there “drop outs” because it was hard work? High 5 to Roodle!
We are definitely doing it again next October! There are 2 12 hour shifts and we were pretty happy to get the day shift our first year. We worked with 5 people on our beet piler. There was close to 50 people total working the harvest in the Sidney, MT. area. There were a few dropouts but not many as the weather was much better than normal. Roodle is very happy we are back in the van and on the road again. We have been spoiling him rotten to make up for lost time. 😀 It seems like he prefers about 4 hours of playing ball time a day now.😜
If you made pre-arrangements I don't see why not. But I honestly don't know the answer. If you contacted someone at the ”unbeetable experience ” I bet they could be more helpful. 😀
I think quite of few people did go to Florida right after the harvest! Not us though 😂 We went to Idaho and it's getting down to 6 below zero some nights! We are having a ball chasing hot springs. Good times! 😀
That experience turned out more fun than we imagined! We meet so many other friendly nomads doing the same thing. That was the closest thing to a van meet up we have done for a long time😂
ADVENTURE VAN MAN DOES THE SUGAR BEET THING IN I THINK NORTH DACOTA. HE DRIVES A TRUCK. LOOKS LIKE BEING NEWBES, YOU GET TO DO THE DIRTY JOBS WHEN THEY COME UP.
Roodle is having a much better year at the beet harvest! We have a friend (Caroline) watching him during the day at the RV park. He goes for walks and gets to play with his best dog friend while we work. Much better than being cooped up in the van all day. Although we miss him. 🐕🎾🎾❤️
We didn’t see any mice or rats at the factory yard but lots of rabbits. However there were lots of mice in the surrounding fields so I image they are there. We were fortunate to work the day shift.
Great job telling the story of the beet harvest!
Thank you! Some days we're hard to muster up the energy to film while we worked😜 We look forward to doing this job again.

Roodle is very happy we are back in the van and on the road again. We have been spoiling him rotten to make up for lost time. 😀 It seems like he prefers about 4 hours of playing ball time a day now.😜
Can you take Saturdays off for religious reasons ?
If you made pre-arrangements I don't see why not. But I honestly don't know the answer. If you contacted someone at the ”unbeetable experience ” I bet they could be more helpful. 😀
Thanks, this was great. I never Thought to look up how to Harvest Beets
Pretty interesting way for people to make some quick cash. After those cold, rainy days I’d high tail it to Florida for a month to recover 😂
I think quite of few people did go to Florida right after the harvest! Not us though 😂 We went to Idaho and it's getting down to 6 below zero some nights! We are having a ball chasing hot springs. Good times! 😀
Those operations are *huge*! Lol. Great footage, guys. I couldn't do the work but give kudos to those that can. 👍
+FAIR RIDER I saw his video! He did a good job 👏 I thought I linked his video but apparently it did not work.
Roodle's look at the end...DAMN YOU BEETS STRAIGHT TO HELL.
Roodle is having a much better year at the beet harvest! We have a friend (Caroline) watching him during the day at the RV park. He goes for walks and gets to play with his best dog friend while we work. Much better than being cooped up in the van all day. Although we miss him. 🐕🎾🎾❤️
THEY USED TO BUILD MACHINERY TO LAST.
I imaging with so much to eat there are rodent problems? are there rats?
We didn’t see any mice or rats at the factory yard but lots of rabbits. However there were lots of mice in the surrounding fields so I image they are there. We were fortunate to work the day shift.
1 #LiveYourPassion Luv the interesting places you travel !! It’s so refreshing !! ❤️ 🌞🚐🇺🇸 #FindYourFreedom 🐾 Happy Dog Roodle !!
Thank you very much! We had a great time learning and meeting other nomads! Season work is awesome. 😀
YOU TWO NEED TO GRADUATE TO TRUCK DRIVERS.
That sounds awesome! I would be in for that challenge. You don't even need a CDL either. 😀
BOY THOSE SUGAR BEETS ARE JUST BUTT UGLY THINGS.
Every now and then a bright red beet comes down the pile! Yes I agree they are not the cutest veggie 😂
Really interesting. Good job!
Thank you, Sharon. 😀
