      Short of weight because your racing, I can't see getting a carbon fiber bike. Yet this is competatively light for alloy. In fact there is an amateur XC build on youtube put together by a guy using the hardtail version that is just over 20 lbs.

    The Chisel hardtail was a great bike..light enough to race XC, but throw a 120mm fork on & it's surprisingly capable..plus being alloy, quite a bit cheaper. I see the same for this bike...would be a fun little ripper especially where a long travel bike is just overkill.

    I have recently start to race in marathon MTB races. This should be PERFECT bike for me, cheeper than carbon, good geo, 2 water botles, much lighter than my alu trail bike which I ride on marathons...

      @RossFinnie 4 месяца назад +2

      That was a big concern of mine too - I can see flexstays working fine on carbon fibre, or even steel frames, but I can't imagine aluminium being great at dealing with that level of fatiguing over the longer term.

    I just recently sold my 22' Chisel to get a full sus XC and honestly, i miss it and shouldn't have sold it. But with this thing out now, I'd really sell it and pick up one. Don't mind carbon but i love the old school durability of Aluminum and not having to be so careful. It would truly be my all in one bike. Adventure and race machine and wont be so scared to drop it hard if it happens. More companies need to give us the same option.

    • @curtiscampbell4897
      @curtiscampbell4897 4 месяца назад

      What makes you miss the Chisel? I am debating on to get a light carbon hardtail or something like this full sus Chisel. I only ride on blue xc trails so I’m thinking I probably don’t need a full suspension. My current bike is an aluminum hardtail.

    • @RyanWilson876
      @RyanWilson876 4 месяца назад

      @@curtiscampbell4897 This may be a long response but bare with me. I bought that bike because Ive always enjoyed hardtails; always loved them. I bought it because I also couldn't afford a Full Sus. But I do want to race and also ride and do adventures on it which you DEFINITELY can do! But where I live it's a good mix of everything so I said, "I don't need full Sus"
      But the more I ride, I realized I wanted that back suspension because it really opens up the door on the terrain I ride. On my now full Sus, I went from having my rear end hurt me because I'm sitting while riding over rocky and bumpy terrain to now I pretty much ride anything and it's actually a joy to ride whatever it is and I can ride harder without thinking. But I miss the hardtail for the simplicity and durability. I like how "naked" the bike felt, I love how simple it felt but I wanted something I could do adventures on and not stress about dropping the bike, this Chisel FS now gives me the ability to have the ride quality I NOW say I prefer and durability of aluminum. But out of every hardtail, the Chisel is the main pick for me. Thing is a rocket ship, it's light and feels like a box and dirt bike in one.

    OK, admitting that I’m an old man. I’m pretty sure my first X-country race bike had a 3x front. I love the idea of this bike but I can’t imagine that on rolling cross country trails that I would be happy with a 1x? I have a 1x right now, a Trek Stache, but it’s the kind of bike that I like to use to just roll along, climb anything I want. Can a 1x with 12 or even 13 speeds always give you the right gear to spin or hammer as you wish? I guess, can a 1x be more than a recreational bike? I have not seen what the pros ride right now so I guess if I just watched a couple of races I would have my answer. :)

    • @pkovo

      One by with the right tooth count up front and a wide range cassette is plenty.

      Strange, a dually with proper tyres and a dropper seems to be very far off from a rigid bike with 45c tyres and drop bars.
      How did you come to that conclusion based on this bike? I think a rigid XC hardtail with 2" tyres might be able make that case but not this.

      @@SevenStanesMBTtotally agree. As soon as "gravel" became cool suddenly everyone here ditched their xc hardtails for rough fire road rides as you apparently need a certain bike for "gravel". Too bad fireroads have ruts, holes and 40% grade pinches.
      Now I spend way more time waiting for them to push their bikes up and down fireroads while they simultaneously tell me how I need a gravel bike.

    Maybe I'm just fucked in the head like this, but I wanna buy the base model a size down from usual and make it a dropbar bikepacking bike. Sell the fork and replace it with an inverted one for easy bag mounts to also make it sprung mass. That triangle will take a frame bag no problem too. Probably do GRX levers and then swap on some 4 pot deore calipers for braking with the extra weight. Someone with more money than me do this and report back 🤣
